Are Single Sex Colleges Going the Way of the Dinosaur?

St. Joseph College (which is right up the street from me, literally) is having a problem with declining enrollments, even though it is a top tier school for it's size. They are struggling with whether they should remain an "all woman" school, or open their enrollment up to men. There are a few courses that men can enroll in, and in fact my oldest son took a Music History course there when he was homeschooling high school. Overall, it's a beautiful campus and it has a wonderful reputation. Advocates say women's colleges like St. Joseph's provide more role models and leadership opportunities than can be found on coed campuses. I think some people would be sad to see this school go co-ed, and I think that schools like this do fulfill a need.
