These legislators deserve our thanks!

The acting Speaker of the House ruled that the amendment was not germane to the bill.

Here is the CTN tape of the session also obtained by going to this webpage.
You have to fast forward to 5:29:15 on the tape.

Rep. O'Neill (Rep - Southbury) presented this amendment because families try to escape bullying by homeschooling their children, and he noted the troubles they are having in withdrawing their children from school.
Rep. Christ (Dem - East Hartford, S. Windsor) objected to the amendment as not being germane to the bill.
House stood at ease for a while and then the acting Speaker of the House Rep. Bob Godfrey (Dem - Danbury) ruled it not germane.

We hope that this amendment can be passed in other legislation between now and the end of the session (Wed June 6) - Please contact your CT Senate and House legislators TODAY and ask that they work with Arthur O'Neill to pass an amendment in upcoming legislation with this language:
In accordance with the provisions of section 10-184, when a parent or guardian of a child provides by certified mail, return receipt requested, to the principal of the school that the child attends or to the superintendent of the local or regional board of education, written notice originated by and signed by the parent or guardian of a child stating that the parent or guardian is withdrawing the child from enrollment in a public school and will provide instruction for the child as required pursuant to section 10-184, the principal of the school that the child attends or the local or regional board of education shall accept such notice and shall deem the child withdrawn from enrollment in the public school immediately upon receipt of such notice
Parents should be able to withdraw their children from school and not have the school keep their children on the enrollment lists and then have them reported to DCF !! This has happened, and is still happening already to 25 families in CT!
