Obama Worship

"The Truth" by Michael D'Antuono

Artist Michael D'Antuono's painting "The Truth", features Barack Obama with his arms outstretched and wearing a crown of thorns upon his head. This piece of "artwork" was supposed to be unveiled on April 29 at NYC's Union Square Park to commemorate Obama's 100th day in office. That unveiling has been cancelled due to public outrage.

The title of the piece, "The Truth," suggests a biblical theme, as Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." D'Antuono insists that the painting was purely a political piece. "The religious reference was used metaphorically and not to insult anyone's religious beliefs. If that is the effect that my art has had on anyone, I am truly sorry," says D'Antuono.

In my opinion, D'Antuono, and others, need to get over this Obama worship. Surely, people have to know that Obama puts his pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us. I mean honestly, there really is no comparison here: Even Jesus did a better job speaking in public to the masses...he did not need a teleprompter. Insofar as this mural was claimed a "political piece", there seems to be enough religious reference in there to make that claim pretty bogus. If anything, D'Antuono certainly has gotten his artwork into the public eye. Maybe that was his intent.

Obama worship is nothing new, nor is the homage people wish to pay to "the leader". There certainly have been other Obama murals painted in other cities. (Houston, Newark, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and more). Some have already been defaced (Seattle, Atlanta).

Generally speaking, when you start seeing murals of the leader on billboards, or on the sides of buildings, it is way past the time to have left the country. Nothing screams Third World like murals of political "leaders" on buildings and generally everywhere you look. It also serves as a not so subtle kind of brainwashing, and a reminder that "the leader" is always watching you.

But just think, somewhere in this country there is some crazed Obama fanatic designing the Third World Mount Rushmore complete with the heads of Obama, Castro, Chavez, and Kim Jung Il. Of course Castro, Chavez, and Kim Jung Il have already been immortalized in mural painting from their own adoring public - that is of course the people who have not been locked up in prison and tortured.

Quite frankly the whole Obama Messiah thing is quite ridiculous and perhaps a bit of a red flag too (pardon the pun).

It's completely disgusting (sickens my stomach to be exact) and offensive. And I'm with you that murals of the leader on billboards etc is a red flag, a big one.

Great blogging, Judy. I've been so busy lately but always make it a point to stop by and see what you're blogging about.

Somehow we've kept out of the clutches of dictatorial socialism with this on the wall for 10 years:

Of course there were lots of Bush murals too. None of them signaled the end times...

I would interpret that mural of Obama wearing a crown of thorns as a criticism, not an homage.

Leader worship is never good. And you're right to compare it to Third World. Looking to another human for "salvation" is disgusting, scary and just really stupid.

Why do people flee oppression and come here and then repeat what was done there?

They dumbed us down in school and now we all need someone to save us. Too dumb to rule ourselves. Too dumb to even care anymore.
