Al Gore - Hypocrite Deluxe

From USA Today:

Al Gore has spoken: The world must embrace a "carbon-neutral lifestyle." To do otherwise, he says, will result in a cataclysmic catastrophe. "Humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb," warns the website for his film, An Inconvenient Truth. "We have just 10 years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tailspin." ...

Public records reveal that as Gore lectures Americans on excessive consumption, he and his wife Tipper live in two properties: a 10,000-square-foot, 20-room, eight-bathroom home in Nashville, and a 4,000-square-foot home in Arlington, Va. (He also has a third home in Carthage, Tenn.) For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself....

according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences. When contacted Wednesday, Gore's office confirmed as much but said the Gores were looking into making the switch at both homes. Talk about inconvenient truths.

Gore is not alone. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean has said, "Global warming is happening, and it threatens our very existence." The DNC website applauds the fact that Gore has "tried to move people to act." Yet, astoundingly, Gore's persuasive powers have failed to convince his own party: The DNC has not signed up to pay an additional two pennies a kilowatt hour to go green. For that matter, neither has the Republican National Committee.

Maybe our very existence isn't threatened.

Gore has held these apocalyptic views about the environment for some time. So why, then, didn't Gore dump his family's large stock holdings in Occidental (Oxy) Petroleum? As executor of his family's trust, over the years Gore has controlled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Oxy stock. Oxy has been mired in controversy over oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas. ...

The issue here is not simply Gore's hypocrisy; it's a question of credibility. If he genuinely believes the apocalyptic vision he has put forth and calls for radical changes in the way other people live, why hasn't he made any radical change in his life?

And no, as a proponent of free market capitalism, I don't care how he spends his money... but what I do care about is that he tells everyone else how to live while polluting the planet along with those he condemns.

Another case of Liberalism "Do as I say - Not as I do"

Hey Tipper, where shall we jet off to today?

Al Gore has made over 100 million over the years peddling his climate change films, working the lecture circut and setting up green companies that deal in carbon offsets.

It is pure greed. The man is brilliant. He is a fraud, but he is a brilliant opportunist.

Tennessee Center for Policy Research ( Algore on the utilities for the Nashville mansion. A Gore staffer quickly claimed "but it was green power" that they were wasting at 5 times the rate (per square foot) than I am at home - and that didn't even include his natural gas bill for the pool, hot water and the gas lanterns. This forced Gore to do some "green" remodeling - adding geothermal water source heat pumps and some solar photovoltaics. I think he may have eliminated his natural gas use, but the electric bill increased.

I thought it was a great opportunity for the greenies to demonstrate how economic all this efficient upgrading would be - you know show us the cost for the upgrades, the decrease in bills and then how many years to pay back....but I guess it wasn't.

Its absolutely astounding the Guy has any credibility at all. He's a serial graduate schooldropout having failed to finish both Vanderbilt Unviversity's Divinity and Law schools. Of the 8 courses he took in Divinity school, he failed 5.

His continuing hypocrisy concerning his massive carbon footprint points to the lie that he lives. In reality he is nothing more than a leech living large, consistent with the socialist motto "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need."

Obviously he and tipper, being good and faithful liberals need far more than we, the unwashed multitudes, who can't appreciate their painful personal sacrifices made on our behalf.

Not really. There are an awful lot of stupid, unquestioning, gullible people out there who are only too eager to be led around by the nose. Unfortunately, many of them somehow make their way into positions of influence in both government and the media.

I am not sure it is fair to say that just because Al Gore is hypocritical, global warming is not a problem that should be acted on. I’m seeing some hasty generalizations...

Al Gore is only one person. There are plenty of people out there who believe this is an issue and act on it.

Global warming is not really a dispute anymore. Whether it will have the apocalyptic impact that Al Gore claims it will be another story. But I feel that people should still try to have a lower impact on the environment regardless of the way some politician lives.

Look at the actual data, there is no question the Earth has cooled dramatically in the last 2 years!

Look at equatorial temps around the world as well as the 10cm to 20 cm increase in polar ice thickness last year.
