A Staged Attack? Some Say Maybe....

Airport X-Ray Scanners

Honestly - firecrackers in his underwear?

Who let this guy on the plane? Where was the TSA? We've heard stories about the Eyewitness Testimony that claimed that a ‘Well-Dressed’ accomplice helped Abdulmutallab board the airplane without a passport and that another person close to Abdulmutallab on the plane filmed the entire flight and bombing attempt. How odd is that?

Some people are suggesting we follow the money. Looks like General Electric (ardent Obama administration supporters) may be seeking to sell more x-ray scanners and apparently they weren't selling as many as they had hoped last year, or in 2009 (read here and here)... until now. (Remember Rahm Emanuel said, "Never let a crisis go to waste")

This report from an NBC (General Electric) affiliate article says:

Only 19 U.S. airports have received sophisticated imaging machines that can detect explosives hidden in clothing.

Security experts say the scanners may be the best defense in stopping attacks such as an attempt to bomb a Detroit-bound aircraft Christmas Day.

The Transportation Security Administration wants to install more of the devices, known as whole-body imaging scanners, but the agency has met resistance from civil liberties groups, passengers and some members of Congress.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the nation's third busiest, has just two of the machines.

The scanners are able to detect weapons and explosives in places security screeners are not allowed to touch in physical pat-down searches, such as the groin area and even body cavities where items could be concealed.
Fear has an economy - and that translates into lots of money for some of these companies. What's more, it is a means to distract us from really hot issues like the healthcare bill, and will make American more easily duped into giving up their rights.

Think about it - What a systemic failure! We already spend a gazillion dollars on homeland security, and have instituted all kinds of scans and data collection, and personal intrusion in the name of intelligence gathering... and yet ... despite all of this - a guy with some explosive underwear, whose own father even warned our government agents about his son's radical ties - gets on a plane after paying cash for his ticket and having no passport??? And no one knew? This guy wasn't even on a no fly list. Well ... it sorta makes one go hmmmm. Meanwhile, the Nobel Peace Prize winner is bombing Yemen!

Now I'm not saying there aren't crazy people out there looking to harm us... but honestly??? There are some very odd things about this whole incident.

It all seems kind of suspect to me.

Bottomline... GE gets to sell more X-ray equipment to airports in 2010 - we lose more rights and the government controls more people as a result of fear - and the focus is off the House and Senate deliberations on Healthcare.

On a strongly related note - Smiths Detection and GE are business partners - doing airport x-ray business.
