Defense Secretary Robert Gates is preparing to sign an order authorizing the military to set up five regional teams to deal with the potential outbreak of H1N1 influenza if FEMA requests help.

and today The Washington Post reports that the vaccines will contain mercury (thimerosal) :

Some of the vaccine will be stored in multi-dose vials containing thimerosal, an antibacterial additive that contains mercury. But there will also be single-dose syringes without thimerosal, a substance that some assert is harmful to children.

Note to self:

Mercury is classified by The Department of Defense as a hazardous material that could cause death if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin, and the EPA is now limiting mercury emissions from factories because the toxin “can damage the brain and nervous system and is especially dangerous to fetuses and small children,” but according to the CDC it’s perfectly safe to inject into your child’s bloodstream.

Meanwhile ... 12,000 young guinea pigs are being used to test this new vaccine.

NYC - Travel Agent Of The Homeless

How do you get rid of the homeless?
Tell them to get outta town.... and pay for it too!

Bloomberg's plan to keep people out of the homeless shelters in New York is to send them packing - and giving them one way tickets to wherever they want. All it takes is for a relative to agree to take them in at the destination they choose.

(Um... Yeah... I'm homeless and I live in St. John's or was it the Virgin Islands?... I just can't decide.)

More than 550 families have left the city since 2007.

The city employs a travel agency for domestic travel and the Department of Homeless Services handles international travel.

City officials say there are no limits on where a family can be sent and families can reject the offer.

As for the people who don't want to leave .... I guess they are having a staycation

US Soldier Demands Apology From Senator Claire McCaskill

This is what members of Congress can expect when they come back home during Congressional recess... questions, protest, anger, constituent demands.

This veteran spoke to McCaskill's aides.

FYI- When this guy was in the military, no doubt he received Tricare; the military's health insurance (formerly known as the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services (CHAMPUS); the health care program of the United States Department of Defense Military Health System). Some people say that Tricare is not really good coverage unless you live near a military base where there are military doctors. I am told that Tricare is similar to Medicare (and probably Medicaid too) in that the reimbursements to health providers are low and do not adequately cover the cost of care, so as a result many private providers prefer not to participate. It would seem too that this veteran soldier may have experienced poorly run government health care personally. He knows what he is talking about both constitutionally and from his own experience and knowledge. My understanding is that once one leaves the military and finishes their tour of duty, and becomes part of the private sector, they cease to receive health care through the military without paying for it.

In Memoriam

It is with great sadness that we inform homeschool supporters everywhere, that a great friend and homeschool freedom champion, Ned Vare, has died. Ned was a fearless fighter for educational freedom.

Deborah Stevenson of NHELD writes:

I first met him in 1990 when he was in the forefront of the effort to defeat government regulation of homeschooling in Connecticut. He was wise to all the background, history, and rationale behind public schooling and homeschooling. Over the years, he not only educated me on the ways of the educational world, but educated untold others. He and his soulmate, Luz Shosie, met in 1973 at Ned’s ranch in Silt, Colorado. Together they raised their son, Cassidy, without schooling, with what is not called UNschooling. In essence, they wisely guided Cassidy in educating himself, an experiment, they say, that surpassed all of their expectations. Ned and Luz were inspired by the writings of John Holt, and together, they started a support group for unschoolers and operated the Unschoolers Unlimited Newsletter for many years. More recently Ned penned a blog entitled, “School Is Hell”. Ned could always be seen supporting the right to educate in freedom at every gathering across the state, from his hometown in Guilford to Hartford and beyond. Ned was never afraid to confront any government official whom he believed was acting in any way to deny parents their rights. Ned was tireless in his ability to engage legislators in quiet, polite, but persistent conversation educating them as to the rights of parents and why they should support educational freedom. Ned was extremely successful at this endeavor and was instrumental in persuading many key legislators to support the rights of parents in Connecticut. We are also fortunate that Ned, with Luz, wrote his thoughts about educational freedom in a book that I proudly keep in a most prominent place in my home. It’s called “Smarting Us Up, the Un Dumbing of America”. Ned was a true inspiration, who had a keen wit, a most engaging personality, and always the nicest smile. I was proud to call Ned my friend, and he will be sorely missed. A memorial service is planned for him at a date to be announced in the fall.

Peter Schiff - No Exit For Ben

Peter Schiff, President of Euro Pacific Capital & Chief Global Strategist & possible CT candidate for Senate this week writes:

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed on Monday, and in congressional testimony later in the week, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke reassured all that thanks to his accurate foresight and deft use of the Fed’s policy toolkit, he could maintain near zero percent interest rates for an extended period without creating inflation. With supernatural powers such as these, one wonders if Ben would be better employed by the Justice League rather than the Federal Reserve.

Ben’s game plan is apparently simple: once he determines that the economy is on solid ground, he will use the monetary equivalent of Superman’s laser vision to strategically evaporate all the excess liquidity that he has recently created without endangering the recovery. Don’t try this at home, kids.

In other words, as he did just a few years ago when the subprime fiasco began to emerge, Bernanke is assuring us that inflation is contained. He is just as wrong now as he was then.

The idea that the inflation genie can be painlessly rebottled has no historic precedent. Even mainstream economists, who’ve never met a fiscal stimulus they didn’t like, agree that central banks must act preemptively with regard to inflation. Bernanke is making the case that the new set of liquidity tools, hastily developed in the panic of late 2008, will act just as well in reverse. But liquidity is a lot like liquid, it’s a lot easier to spill than to un-spill. The Chairman believes that his new gadgetry will allow him to perform a feat of monetary magic no other central banker has managed to pull off. But given his history of getting it wrong, why should we assume that this time he will get it right?

The bottom line is that Bernanke has no exit strategy. He can talk about it all he likes, but when it comes time to actually pull the trigger, his nerves will buckle. The current communications campaign is simply an attempt to calm the markets. I doubt few citizens or members of Congress had any hope of understanding the exit strategy mechanisms that Bernanke described. Many likely place their faith in his seeming mastery of financial minutiae. Sadly, as with the mythical “strong dollar policy,” confident talk may be the sum total of the Chairman’s strategy.

He senses that the villagers, in the form of currency traders and bond market vigilantes, are becoming a bit restless. To sooth their concerns, he must pretend that he has the situation under control. Like Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men, he knows full well that markets simply “can’t handle the truth.”

But make no mistake, in order to mop up all the excess liquidity, the Fed will need to raise interest rates substantially to attract buyers for all the bonds that the Treasury must sell. Fed officials know that our economy is completely dependent on cheap money and limitless government credit, and can’t tolerate the loss of either. Of course, the longer the monetary spigot remains open, the more addicted to low rates we get, and the harder it will be to kick the habit. If the Fed could not remove the punch bowl during the years before the bust, how will they do so while the economy is far weaker? Even if they do start the process, the minute the “recovery” seems in jeopardy, look for the Fed to turn the showers back on.

Also, paring down the Fed’s bloated balance sheet will require selling hundreds of billions of dollars of toxic assets, such as bonds backed by subprime mortgages, credit card debt, and auto and student loans, back into the market. Finding buyers for such sludge without crushing the market is a trick that Houdini himself would be reluctant to attempt. The Fed’s assumption that the assets will no longer be toxic by the time it sells them is farcical. The economy at large has not yet suffered the full weight of the recession because these assets have been largely quarantined at the Fed. Reintroduce these toxins back into the economy and the reaction could be lethal.

Bernanke also mistakenly expressed optimism that a strengthening global economy would aid our recovery. Unfortunately, a global resurgence will force Bernanke’s anti-inflation hand, and will thereby cause more pain to the U.S. economy.

Few appreciate how the global panic of 2008 actually benefited the U.S. by causing a flight into U.S. dollars and Treasury bonds. The resultant flows put a lid on consumer prices and kept interest rates low. As growth overseas resumes, and these flows reverse, both consumer prices and interest rates will rise.

Further, as current policy prevents the structural imbalances underlying our economy from being corrected, U.S. unemployment will continue to rise. Combined with higher interest rates and rising consumer prices, the Misery Index (inflation + interest rates + unemployment) will be a big issue in the 2010 mid-term elections, and an even bigger one in 2012.

Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Democratic Congressman John Conyers (D-Mich.) ought to be ashamed of himself! He was elected and sent to Washington, DC, to read the bills and understand what the heck he is voting on! What a disgrace!

If a thousand pages is too overwhelming then they ought to get a clue from that as well. But in reality, if the bill is too big and too complicated to understand properly for a legislator or a layman, then you must really must vote 'NO'! One cannot say that reading it makes no difference; it is after all the legislation before you! It's passage will make a difference - good or bad - in millions of people's lives!

Hmmm.... perhaps Deborah Stevenson had it right when she wrote this article... "Shall we eliminate the lawyers?"

We may elect people as Congressmen and Senators whose job it is to make our laws, but, in truth, they no longer are the one who make our laws. It doesn’t matter what party is in power. It is the lawyers who staff their offices who, in reality, make the laws. The Congressmen and Senators merely accept the word of the lawyers that the law is written as it should be, and sally forth on the floor of the Congress,and in front of television cameras, to call for its adoption. This didn’t just start yesterday. It’s been going on for years, in administration after administration.

After all, our founding fathers never envisioned Congress to write devastatingly long, complex laws that only seasoned Washingtonian lawyers could comprehend, let alone apply. They did not need a thousand pages to write the Constitution, a document that establishes our entire form of government. They envisioned citizen representatives adopting well reasoned laws, simple and easily understandable by all, that could be applied in a simple and straightforward manner.

We don’t need complex laws that nine people in black robes sitting on the Supreme Court can spend their time “interpreting”. We don’t need grandiose proclamations on what our laws mean from some even more powerful and unelected lawyers whom we now call Supreme Court Justices. We just need Congressmen and Senators who understand the meaning of the Constitution, who have read the Constitution, who take their oath to the Constitution seriously, who uphold the Constitution, who vote for only those laws that are Constitutional, and who vote to repeal any and all laws that are not Constitutional. We need to keep things simple. We need to simply uphold the Constitution.

Delay Economic Report - Rush Healthcare

Why do you think the government is postponing the release of their 2009 mid-year budget review and some very important economic data until August?

This report will show a revision to the deficit. It will no doubt be much bigger. The delay in the reporting is being blamed by the Obama administration as being "typical - as a result of a new president taking office", but it would seem more like a stall tactic being used.

It would seem they don't want the bad news on budget deficits to come out until AFTER lawmakers leave Washington for their August recess, and Obama and his chief of staff Rahm Emanuel are pressing for lawmakers to shove through the healthcare bill with its massive spending BEFORE Congress recesses.

Now that's Change and Transparency that we can believe in!

Looks like those lawmakers need some more phone calls from their constituents, otherwise they are certainly going to get an earful when they go back home .


By the way, I'm sure Rahm Emanuel is in a great hurry to get this Obamacare bill passed and signed so his brother Ezekiel can supervise the Comparative Effectiveness Research panel which will be set up to determine the "criteria for continued life" for the elderly. Is The World Health Organization Moving Forward On Forcing Swine Flu Vaccinations?

The World Health Organization apparently has refused to release the minutes of a key meeting of an advisory vaccine group which was packed with executives from Big Pharma; Baxter, Novartis and Sanofi. It is reported that they all recommended compulsory vaccinations in the USA, Europe and other countries against the H1N1 “swine flu” virus for this autumn's anticipated outbreak. Apparently a WHO spokesperson claimed that no minutes were taken at this July 7th meeting, if not... then why? If minutes were actually taken ... then why can we not see them?
Science journalist Jane Burgermeister of Global Research wrote a chilling piece on this issue. Please read it and tell me if you think it's a plausible scenario.

International Health Regulations ( WHO guidelines) are legally binding on all of WHO’s 194 signatory countries in the event of a pandemic emergency, and

In short: WHO has the authority to force everyone in those 194 countries to take a vaccine this fall at gunpoint, impose quarantines and restrict travel.

Burgermeister writes that:

There is verifiable, clear and unambiguous proof that WHO supplied the live bird flu virus to Baxter’s subsidiary in Austria, which was used by Baxter to manufacture 72 kilos of vaccine material in February.

Baxter subsequently sent this material out to 16 labs in four countries under a false label designating the contaminated product as vaccine material, so nearly triggering a global pandemic.

Because Baxter must adhere to strict biosafety level 3 regulations when handling a dangerus virus such as the bird flu virus, the production and distribution of so much pandemic material cannot have been an accident but must have been done by Baxter with criminal intent.

The Austrian police are now investigating after I filed criminal charges in April.

Burgermeister outlines reasons and theorizes as to why WHO and Big Pharma are working together in such a concerted effort - that they actually caused the Swine flu outbreak, and that Big Pharma stands to reap billions from this manufactured pandemic while reducing population and being a catalyst to political and economic upheaval globally.

Burgermeister states:

- First, WHO gives funds, support and cover to labs such as the CDC to bioprospect for pathogens, bioengineer them to make them more deadly, and also patent them.

- Second, WHO gives those same deadly bioengineered pathogens to companies such as Baxter in Austria, so that Baxter could use those viruses to deliberately, systematically contaminate vaccine material. If the contamination of the 72 kilos had not been detection on time by a lab technician in the Czech Republic, millions of people would have caught the “bird flu” from the injections.

- Third, in the event of a pandemic, WHO orders a compulsory vaccines for all 194 countries, following “recommendations” by an advisory vaccine group on which executives of Baxter also sit.

- Fourth, WHO awards Baxter, Novartis, Sanofi and other companies lucrative contracts to supply those vaccines.

Furthermore, WHO acquires new global authority on an unseen scale in the event of a pandemic.

It is pretty chilling to think that under special pandemic plans enacted around the world in 2005, and that includes the United States, that national governments could be dissolved in the event of a pandemic emergency and replaced by special crisis committees, which take charge of the health and security infrastructure of a country! Those crisis committees are answerable to the WHO and EU in Europe and to the WHO and UN in North America.

If the Model Emergency Health Powers Act is implemented on the instructions of WHO, it will be a criminal offense for Americans to refuse vaccination! They will tell people where to go and what to do in an emergency, and they will have full control of disposing of bodies too! Governing statutes can be suspended. This law enables the Government to seize/quarantine a town and all the people within it. Once Quarantined, the government would be allowed to seize all property and seize the rights of the people to resist government. There has been much written against this legislation. All you need to do is look for it on the Internet, and believe me the criticism has not been pretty.

Burgermeister further states:

Through their control of these special pandemic crisis committees with the power to enact legislation to be set up most countries, the WHO, UN and EU become the de facto government of a large part of the world. Mass murder and death will also bring economic collapse and disruption, starvation and wars – and these events will lead to a further population reduction.

Burgermeister sums up by saying:

WHO helps create, distribute and then release the deadly pandemic virus, and this pandemic virus allows WHO to assume control of governments in North America and Europe and also order forced vaccination on populations by the very same companies that have distributed and released the deadly viruses in the first place and all under under the pretext of protecting populations from a pandemic they have created.

The corporate mainstream media owned by the same “elite” group which funds WHO is systematically concealing from the general public the nature of the real danger of these H1N1 jabs by withholding from them key information concerning the interrelated activities of this group of organisations for their mutual profit.

As a result, most people still believe that the H1N1 virus is a natural swine flu when even WHO has officially dropped the term “swine” in tactic acknowledgment of its artificial origin.

Most people still believe the vaccine companies can deliver a cure when the vaccine companies are preparing a lethal series of shots containing live attenuated virus, toxic metals and other poisons.

The two-dose H1N1 shots are designed to disable the immune system and then load that system with a live virus in a process that mirrors the one described in two of WHO’s 1972 memoranda where the technical means for turning vaccines into killers is outlined.

there are growing signs, they will use the panic to terrify people into taking the toxic vaccines which are sure to cause injury or damage because of the presence of heavy metals alone.

This mass vaccination will moreover allow ever more lethal strains to emerge and also provide a cover for a release of bird flu virus or other pathogens.

Well, that's a pretty interesting, albeit frightening, claim.

Hmmm... This scenario that Burgermeister and others paint conjures up some interesting parallels to the underlying plot of the movie "V for Vendetta" where the movie's hero,"V", emerges as a vigilante after being subjected to forced experimental vaccinations. The government secretly unleashes a bioterror viral campaign against its own citizens in order to create panic, create gain for the drug company, and gain totalitarian control.

Who knows what the real story is, and if indeed this is fact or fiction... but we definitely could use some more transparency in the whole issue. Who and what can we really trust in a crisis these days? Especially after leaders like White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel state that they expect to use every crisis to some political advantage. The claims made by Burgermeister are really not that far-fetched given the contents of the "emergency powers act", various executive orders, and other enacted "crisis legislation" that we have seen in the past few years.

American test trials of the swine flu vaccine have already begun.

... two possible vaccines will be tested at eight institutions around the country under the auspices of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), officials said.

The purpose of the trials, said NIAID Director Dr. Anthony S. Fauci in a prepared statement, is to "determine whether the vaccines are safe and to assess their ability to induce protective immune responses. These data will be factored into the decision about how and if to implement a 2009 H1N1 flu immunization program this fall."

... two Australian biotechnology companies have started inoculating adult volunteers in the world's first H1N1 swine flu vaccine trials. Those trials, as well as the trials planned in the United States, hope to produce an effective shot against the virus that has so far killed more than 700 people worldwide.

One of the NIAID studies will try to determine if one or two 15-microgram doses of the candidate H1N1 vaccine are sufficient to provoke an immune response in healthy adults aged 18 to 64 and in people aged 65 and older. Studies will also look at whether one or two doses of 30 micrograms are more effective.

The two-dose regimens will be given three weeks apart. Two manufacturers, Sanofi Pasteur and CSL Biotherapies, produced the vaccines.

If these trials seem safe, the vaccines will also be tested in children aged 6 months to 17 years, according to the NIAID statement.

Given that more people died as a result of taking vaccinations in the last round of swine flu in 1976 - I think I'd rather pass on this next go around... and the biggest fear should not be whether you get sick or not - but how much of our liberty and property might be stolen as a result! This is one case where it is very important that you understand your rights and your options - especially in a crisis.

Women Wanted For Chocolate Experiments

Scientists are hunting for new volunteers who will be required to eat chocolate every day for a year.

Boffins studying the potential health benefits of dark chocolate at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich, Norfolk, need 40 women to test specially made bars.

Participants must be post-menopausal and have type 2 diabetes to help see whether flavonoid compounds in chocolate can reduce the risk of heart disease.

Some 150 volunteers who took part in the study's first round of tests last year will soon be tested for any health benefits.

Dr Peter Curtis, of the UEA's School of Medicine, said: "Our first volunteers are about to return for their final visit to see if the markers of heart health - such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels - have changed.

"A successful outcome could be the first step in developing new ways to improve the lives of people at increased risk of heart disease."

Researchers believe that chocolate rich in flavonoid plant compounds found in cocoa and soy could help postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes ward off heart disease.

A Belgian chocolatier has been used to create bars rich in flavonoids, and the test bars used in the clinical trials are said to have a "bitter" taste.

The new volunteers must be under 76 years old and must not have had a period for at least one year or be taking HRT.

Volunteers must also be non-smokers and have been taking cholesterol lowering drugs such as statins for at least a year.

The UEA said that this will involve giving blood and urine samples, having an ultrasound scan of their arteries and filling in questionnaires about their lifestyle.

Participants would have their risk of heart disease tested five times during the year to see whether change occurred.

The study is being funded by research group Diabetes UK and staff from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and the Institute of Food Research would be involved.

Homeschool Reflections

Two years ago I wrote a post about Homeschool Proms and Graduations. As my youngest celebrated her high school homeschool graduation this past weekend, I can't help but have some words to share. After homeschooling my three kids during the past 12 years, I have to say that it certainly has been a wonderful experience for our family. Our kids have thrived and have created their own successes. When it came to academics, my husband and I served more as facilitators than instructors. Our children have learned to work, think and live on their own. They have become independent and goal driven. More importantly, they have developed into fine people, with a wonderful circle of friends and family.

We certainly were not the mythological/stereotypical homeschooling family that sat around the kitchen table doing lessons, nor did we ever try to replicate government school at home. I honestly never met a homeschool family that did. My kids did not suffer from lack of socialization with their peers, and heaven knows they did not develop into some socially awkward and damaged children. All the ever popular criticisms and labels that people like to toss around in the articles that you normally read in the media about homeschooling were, and still are, bogus. We never had a problem with Socialization, or academics, or being able to compete, or being able to fit in. Did we spend all of our days together? Of course not. Did my kids ever have other people as their teachers and mentors? Of course they did. They had varied and interesting experiences, along with some mundane and difficult times. Were all days perfect? Of course not. The truth is that homeschooling works!

And yes, there are still those narrow-minded people out there who want to make up reasons for why we homeschool - you know them - the suspicious kind who want to think that homeschool families are some sort of control freaks that want to "protect" their kids from other kids attending government schools who are different from them. They think we want to teach our kids hate and how to discriminate. They think we want to instill some twisted world view in our children. I can't even begin to tell you the ludicrous things I have heard, but no doubt if you are a homeschool parent, you have heard those ridiculous things as well. It's kind of sad to see how some people are so conditioned to think these things. The statists are really the worst - they are the folks who truly believe that parents do their children some sort of harm or disservice if their children aren't marched into government sponsored institutional education by the time they are 3. How incredibly ridiculous! Perhaps that is one reason why kids today for the most part are so disconnected from their families. Suffice it to say that the education they are fed from age 3 is substandard when compared to that of other countries!

Then of course there are the indignant parents who feel they have to defend their choice not to homeschool by putting your choice down as being somehow lacking over theirs, yet in the same breath will tell you all of the horror stories of their child's experiences in government school! It's amazing really.

Of course, homeschool critics don't consider that
- Maybe we just want our kids to learn in peace, without the twaddle and nonsense and fabricated drama that happens in government schools.
- Maybe we want to make sure our kids get a real education; one where no one holds them back or determines what they can and canot learn at any point in their education.
- Maybe we want to provide them with unique experiences and field trips that could never happen in a government school program.
- Maybe we want to provide our children with a safe environment - free from bullying and teacher/student humiliation, and one free from drugs and crime.
- Maybe we want to provide our children with a curriculum which they can help craft; give them ownership of their work and lots of opportunity for growth of real self esteem which comes from hard work and accomplishment.
- Maybe we just don't want to deal with bureaucracy and arbitrary rules set by others.
- Maybe we are just caring parents who have determined that our choices are the best match for our family.
- Maybe we understand best what is best for our own family!

One kid once asked my son what time he got up in the morning to start his studies. My son replied that he rose at 10:00 am. The other kid was amazed because he had to get up at 6:00 am to go to public school. He sniped back at my son, in a tone of obvious jealousy, "Well how on Earth will you ever be able to get up early in the morning to go to work when you get a job?" My son simply replied, "When the time comes, and it is necessary, I will buy an alarm clock".

So simple, and yet so funny and sad at the same time.
Most kids are conditioned to think that they must do things well otherwise any bad grades will "go on your permanent record". My kids never had that fear of learning. They did things to the best of their ability and were rewarded for their efforts. They went on to learn new things when they mastered and understood the lessons they had to work through. Sometimes that took a short time and sometimes it took a while. Their pace was their own, and when they did encounter problems. they had a hand in figuring out how to work through them.

They were not inundated with filling every minute of their day with scheduled activity. They had time to find out who they were and what they wanted to do with their life. They had time to relax and be a kid. They had time to be themselves and were not pressured into being something or someone they were not.

They had time to develop strong bonds with their siblings. Ours was not a house of strangers cohabiting. We took great pains to make sure we had dinner together every night, and we talked, joked and shared and on some days we argued too.

What many people fail to understand is that Homeschool is about more than just academics; it's a way of life. Education is not just something that happens between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM with weekends and holidays off. The fact is, mom and dad are learning too.

We used a variety of sources for our curriculum; Some bought, some borrowed, some absolutely free for the taking. When something didn't quite work, we had the freedom to toss it and try something else. My kids education lacked nothing, and in fact as my kids went through the grades, they had that sense validated as they compared what their government schooled peers were up to. My kids played on town sports teams, played in homeschool orchestras, participated in competitions, joined clubs, worked at jobs, did volunteer work, all along with all of the other things kids do.

We have had a wonderful 12 years; we wish we had started sooner. It was a journey that we are all glad that we took, and that we had the courage to take despite the disparaging remarks and noise from others along the way. We learned to tune out that noise, and we are ever so thankful that we had the freedom to do so.

Thank goodness we were able to homeschool in freedom.
I pray that my grandchildren (and their grandchildren) will have the same opportunity.
All the more reason to continue supporting parental rights and the homeschool community even as my children are off to (and finished with) college.

I may be "done" homeschooling my kids - but I am not done with supporting homeschooling and I will continue working to keep it a free and unencumbered option for parents.

The Girl Graduates!

Aron Academy Homeschool held its graduation ceremony and party this past Sunday in our backyard. It was a lovely day - we had about 50 friends and family in attendance to congratulate the girl and give her a big send-off to college.

Here was the speech that I gave (minus some tears and wavering voice):

On behalf of our family I want to welcome all of you and thank you all for sharing this graduation celebration with us. We celebrate this milestone for Rachel because it marks an end and a beginning. As my youngest stands before us all as a high school and homeschool graduate, I can't help but have some thoughts to share.

Our kids have thrived and have created their own successes. When it comes to academics, my husband and I have served more as facilitators than instructors. Our children have learned to work, think and live on their own. They have become independent and goal driven. More importantly, they have developed into fine people, with a wonderful circle of friends and family. They did not do this by merely sitting around the kitchen table doing lessons.

We have had a wonderful 12 years homeschooling; we wish we had started sooner with our older children. It was a journey that we are all glad that we took, and that we had the courage to take despite the disparaging remarks and noise from others along the way. We learned to tune out that noise, and we are ever so thankful that we had the freedom to do so. To the homeschoolers in this gathering, a special thank you to you for helping to keep homeschooling free and legal in the state of Connecticut.

People have been reminding me lately how Mike and I are going to be “empty nesters”. I don’t like that term much. First of all – I know that they always come back at one time or another. But honestly, going out on their own is what we raised them to do. So I prefer to think of us as “successful parents”.

I have to say that it isn’t so much that it takes a village to raise a child, but rather that the world has been, and continues to be, this child’s classroom - and you have all been a part of Rachel’s education in one way shape or form. I appreciate from the bottom of my heart all that all of you here assembled today have contributed to the growth and education of this young lady that we now honor and congratulate. She is who she is because of what we all have given her in the way of opportunity, encouragement, constructive criticism, advice and friendship, but it is Rachel alone who openly allowed herself to take everything in and to become the person that she is. She is to be commended for that. She has taken bits of all of us and included them into what makes her who she is.

I am very proud of Rachel – she has worked very hard - and while she may tell you that she doesn’t think she learned much in certain subjects, I think she underestimates what it is that she does know and how much she has accomplished. Sure, I am her mom and I think the world of her – but as her teacher I can tell you that she has accomplished a lot for a young person.

From producing her own cable TV shows, starting her own music production company, working part time and taking college courses and doing volunteer work, she has shown herself in many instances to be a leader, to trust in herself and to know herself. She has shown that she can set goals and follow them through, and be able to do so while being open to input from others and weighing options. She is willing to take on responsibility and she is willing to deal with the consequences of her actions. These are all elements of maturity. The lessons she has learned academically and in life will serve her well.

All of her endeavors thus far have provided her with experiences that she will draw upon as she goes off to college to the University of New Haven in the fall, and we know that her college plans will be challenging and satisfying.

Best of Luck and Congratulations Rachel! You did it!

Her father and brothers offered speeches as did our friend and West Hartford Town Councilor Joe Visconti. NHELD Executive Director Deborah Stevenson also spoke and also presented the girl with a certificate of recognition honoring her academic achievements. The graduate also gave a speech.

Afterwards it was party time - food and beverage and all around good times. The girl's many friends stayed till late into the evening - so much for socialization!

Health Care Bill Will Fund State Vaccine Teams to Conduct ‘Interventions’ in Private Homes

The committee’s official summary of the bill says: “Authorizes a demonstration program to improve immunization coverage. Under this program, CDC will provide grants to states to improve immunization coverage of children, adolescents, and adults through the use of evidence-based interventions. States may use funds to implement interventions that are recommended by the Community Preventive Services Task Force, such as reminders or recalls for patients or providers, or home visits.”

So can you imagine exactly what the state has planned when it sends people to “implement interventions” in private homes? And this is supposed “to improve immunization coverage of children”?

Why? so they can help Big Pharma push more of their poisonous vaccines like Gardisil on American children?

Hey, American parents... wake up! Do you care that you may be losing your ability to exercise parental consent regarding your children's healthcare?

Deborah Stevenson of NHELD says:

if the final Health Care Reform bill contains similar language, not only does the bill give states money as an incentive to make sure kids are vaccinated, it could mean that states have yet one more reason to report parents to child protective services agencies for neglect for failing to give their child the vaccinations. Parents may be faced with charges of "medical neglect" and potential loss of custody of their children if they don't give the kids the vaccinations. If the states take the money, and the bill requires states to "make sure" that kids receive the vaccines, the states could lose the money if they don't "make sure" the kids receive the vaccinations. The "home visits" also could be conducted by the child protective services agency, or have the information that the parents refused to have the child vaccinated turned over to the child protective services agency. How many states are willing to turn down the money? How many parents will be bullied into giving the vaccinations, and what vaccinations will the bill require the states to "make sure" that the children receive? (she wrote an article about saying NO to Federal Money)

and So the plot thickens... and apparently the Cook case is proceeding.

After refusing to deploy to Afghanistan based on Obama's eligibility issue as Commander in Chief... and after his orders were abruptly revoked perhaps because the government did not wish to see this go to court... U.S. Army Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook, got fired from his civilian job at Systems Integration Management Technologies, Inc (Simtech Inc.), which does DOD contracting in the general field of information technology/systems integration. Maj. Cook is/was a senior systems engineer and architect for that company.

The Department of Defense has allegedly compelled a private employer to fire a U.S. Army Reserve major from his civilian job after he had his military deployment orders revoked for arguing he should not be required to serve under a president who has not proven his eligibility for office.

According to the CEO of Simtech Inc., a private company contracted by the Defense Security Services, an agency of the Department of Defense, the federal government has compelled the termination of Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook.

Cook's attorney, Orly Taitz, wrote in her blog that Simtech CEO Larry Grice said he would try to find another position within the company for Cook, but nothing is currently available.

"What has happened in the present case of Stefan Frederick Cook is that a federal agency appears to have taken action against Stefan Frederick Cook's private employer, Simtech, Inc., which is a closely held corporation owned and operated by members of a single family, who are as much victims of the Department of Defense's heavy-handed interference with plaintiff Cook's private-sector employment as is plaintiff Cook himself."

Ok - first of all it should be worth mentioning that this guy, Maj. Cook, is not someone of lower rank that is just afraid of being deployed... he is an educated and experienced Major, one who takes his military oath very seriously. His rank demands that one understand that there is a difference between lawful orders and unlawful ones.

He has stated that: "As an officer in the armed forces of the United States, it is [my] duty to gain clarification on any order we may believe illegal. With that said, if President Obama is found not to be a 'natural-born citizen,' he is not eligible to be commander-in-chief, [then] any order coming out of the presidency or his chain of command is illegal. Should I deploy, I would essentially be following an illegal [order]. If I happened to be captured by the enemy in a foreign land, I would not be privy to the Geneva Convention protections," he said.

Below is the oath that he took - and it looks like he intends to abide by it - knowing full well that he could experience the type of retribution that he is allegedly experiencing.

This Plaintiff, at the time of his original induction into service, took the United States, military oath of an enlisted man, in which he stated:

“I, Stefan Frederick Cook, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God”

Later, however, he took the oath of an officer of the United States Armed Forces, as follows:

“I, Stefan Frederick Cook, having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of Major do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.” (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)

This oath is based on 5 U.S.C. §3331:

Additionally, it is worth noting - Maj. Cook has also had some high ranking military join his lawsuit.

It should be noted from the report:

An officer does not swear to obey the orders of the President. Rather, he assumes the obligation to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic (for example, a possible Presidential Usurper, if it were shown by clear-and-convincing evidence that a person took the office under false pretenses of constitutional qualifications). The Founding Fathers had the foresight to protect and secure against a situation such as that now facing the United States. The officer oath is a safeguard to protect the Constitution against a corrupt elected government. Officers have an obligation to defend the Constitution.

What is even more unfortunate and alarming in this case, is that if indeed this call for Maj. Cook's termination at his civilian job is at the behest of the military, then we have a bigger problem then just Obama's birth certificate!

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Sen. Tom Coburn's Comments To Sotomayor

Well said.

According to Title 28, Chapter I, Part 453 of the United States Code, each Supreme Court Justice takes the following oath:

"I, [NAME], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as [TITLE] under the Constitution and laws of the United States. So help me God."

This is also well said:

The Founders knew that the courts could not fairly judge laws if they had a hand in making them, nor could they be counted on to curb the excesses of legislative and executive power if they shared in it....

How can we depend on the protections of justice if justice is no longer blind and those who weigh the scales can tip them in one party's favor?

How can we uphold the rule of law if a judge has the power to place his empathy before the evidence and his personal politics before the democratic expression of the public will?

And how can we enjoy the security of our rights and the full blessings of our freedoms if the highest court in our land is not bound to the words and promises of our Constitution?

A federal judge's role is not to create or enforce the law.
A federal judge certainly should NOT be looking to foreign law to form opinions either!

Can Sotomayor really fulfill these requirements?
That's the question the Senate should be seeking to answer.

Soldier Refused Deployment - Claimed Obama NOT Legal Commander In Chief - Military Then Revokes The Orders!

U.S. Army Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook was given orders to deploy to Afghanistan. But he said he shouldn’t have to go because Obama is not a U.S. citizen and therefore not legally President and Commander in Chief. What happened next is amazing.... the military revoked the orders with no reason given - and speculation is that the government would rather not see this thing go to court before a judge! There are many many lawsuits and claims that Barack Obama was never eligible to be president because he wasn’t born in the United States. And there is credible evidence that suggests he is not legally eligible to serve as President of the US. (see more here)

Like it or not, the questions still remain, and Obama refuses to respond to these claims other than to block lawsuits and refuse to produce documents. His Press Secretary Gibbs and other members of his administration laugh it off and ridicule folks bringing up the questions - but so far we have seen NO proof. The authenticity of the short form Certificate of Live Birth which was released on the Internet last year has been brought into question as well. People want to see the official long form birth certificate ... the one signed by the doctors and the hospital administrators, and his parents, the one Obama is tenaciously keeping from view from the American public. Interestingly enough, average Americans must routinely produce this document to obtain various other documents. So why doesn't Obama?

According to this report:

Cook’s lawyer, Orly Taitz, who has also challenged the legitimacy of Obama’s presidency in other courts, filed a request last week in federal court seeking a temporary restraining order and status as a conscientious objector for his client.

In the 20-page document — filed July 8 with the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia — the California-based Taitz asks the court to consider granting his client’s request based upon Cook’s belief that Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is therefore ineligible to serve as commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Cook further states he “would be acting in violation of international law by engaging in military actions outside the United States under this President’s command. ... simultaneously subjecting himself to possible prosecution as a war criminal by the faithful execution of these duties.”

Cook, a reservist, received the orders mobilizing him to active duty on June 9.

According to this document, which accompanies Cook’s July 8 application for a temporary restraining order, he has been ordered to report to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., on Wednesday. From there, the Florida resident would go to Fort Benning before deploying overseas.

It looked like this case might be heard, where others have been stonewalled and blocked from proceeding forward on a flimsy "lack of standing" basis.
Then, all of a sudden the military orders were revoked after Cook argued that he should not be required to serve under a president who has not proven his legitimacy for office. People may argue that the revocation of his orders to deploy may or may not have anything to do with his refusal to obey his orders and take the eligibility issue to court, but it sure looks suspiciously like it might...

We won! We won before we even arrived,” said Orly Taitz, his attorney. “It means that the military has nothing to show for Obama. It means that the military has directly responded by saying Obama is illegitimate – and they cannot fight it. Therefore, they are revoking the order!”

She continued, “They just said, ‘Order revoked.’ No explanation. No reasons – just revoked.”

Imagine that!

In a related story - when Obama visited Ghana last week, this report was filed by Modern Ghana news (also reprinted here) :

The controversy is NOT over. And whatever is being said or not said - the bigger point is that nobody can seem to get to the facts concerning Mr. Obama’s birthplace, much less his background documentation. If WE The People are bound to produce birth documents for some employment, licenses and so on, then why is the President exempt? He is not an ordinary person, he is the President and therefore we must know what his documents say to make fully certain that he is eligible to serve as elected. If he is in truth not natural born as our Constitution requires then he must step down. If he is illegitimate as president then every document he signs is null and void. We have on our hands a Constitutional crisis.

No hospital is claiming he was born there. No American doctor is claiming that (s)he delivered him. You would think with this president's popularity that people wopuld be coming out of the woodwork saying that they were there at his birth - or some plaque would be placed at the hospital of his birth. We have heard of people claiming to be present at his birth in Kenya though. At that time his mother would have been too young to confer citizenship and his father was a British citizen.

We have not seen these:
• A certified copy of Obama's original, signed “vault” birth certificate.

• Certified copies of Obama's reissued and sealed birth certificates in the names Barack Hussein Obama, Barry Soetoro, Barry Obama, Barack Dunham and Barry Dunham.

• A certified copy of Obama's Certification of Citizenship.

• Certified copies of Obama's admission forms for Occidental College,Columbia University and Harvard Law School.

• Certified copies of any legal documents changing his name.

Where is the long form birth certificate? The one with the doctor's signature and other pertinent information regarding his birth?

How long will judges stonewall this and keep the evidence from the courts? Will Sotomayor protect the president if this gets to the Supreme Court? That's a question not likely to be asked during her hearings this week.

Until then, we will keep seeing ads like this:

Buying Gold Like Candy Bars

Now - This might give the $100 grand candy bar a run for its money ... and the concept is "Gold To Go" - insert some euros into this vending machine and out pops some gold bars...

Germans flock to gold bars vending machine at Frankfurt airport

"It's better value than the bank," Romy Erhardt of TG-Gold-Super-Markt told The Times, "And it's very convenient — no waiting time — you just put in your cash and a minute later you are an investor in gold."

The prototype gold-dispenser has been installed in Frankfurt airport and today there was a queue of passengers mulling over whether to buy one gramme, 5 grammes or ten grammes of gold.

The one-gramme bar was available for €30 (£25). Other options — rather like a high-end coffee machine it has five selections — included a Maple Leaf Five Canadian dollar coin and a Kangaroo Fifteen Australian dollar coin. Both represent about one tenth of an ounce of gold and the price on today was hovering around €80.

"The price is updated every 15 minutes," Ms Erhardt explained. "The vending machine is linked to the computer which we use for our online gold outlet."

The margins are lower than those offered by banks but fluctuate at about 20 per cent higher than market prices. That is the price of being able to pick up your gold before boarding an aircraft and having it packaged in a metal case labelled "My Golden Treasure".

A less sophisticated version of this Gold to Go machine was installed in Frankfurt's main railway station last month and has been doing well. The company hopes to put 500 of the machines throughout Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

They are riding on the crest of a wave of investor interest in gold as the market price edges up towards $1,000 for a troy ounce.

Online gold dealers — who offer a discreet armoured-car delivery for large purchases — are reporting boom times. The World Gold Council said that individual purchases started to rise dramatically in the last quarter of 2008 and have broken all records in the first quarter of this year.

Above all, small individual investors — nervous about the future of the dollar and other currencies — are buying and selling the metal. In the US, the gold equivalent of Tupperware parties have caught on and the idea has spread to Britain.

The Michigan based company My Gold Party — a housewife acts as a company agent and invites her friends to her home to have their gold rings and bracelets professionally valued — has been taken up by 28 US states.

The online company Cash4gold.com meanwhile is reporting 25,000 transactions a month. And Exboyfriendjewelry.com — whose testimonials are full of stories about the cathartic effect of selling jewelery given by former husbands and lovers — is thriving.

The Germans are particularly interested, partly because of the collective memory of the currency collapse after two world wars.

Some high street jewellers even buy dental gold to be melted down. "German investors have always preferred to hold a lot of personal wealth in gold, for historical reasons," said Thomas Geissler, head of the Stuttgart-based TG-Gold-Super-Markt.

To make sure that no one [tampers] with the Frankfurt gold vending machine, the company has positioned it near high-resolution closed circuit television cameras and given it an armour-plated casing.

In a related story - Are gold prices being manipulated to keep them low? Maybe so... It would seem that this article could be bringing other events into focus. For example, the fact that China has doubled it's supply of gold; is it possible that some of that has come from the Federal Reserve? Maybe that explains why the Fed is a bit nervous with regard to the sunshine bill currently being pushed by both sides of the aisle in Congress to Audit the Fed! (although some high ranking Democrats are trying to block it). The Fed does NOT want to be audited... So what is the likelihood that the vaults at Fort Knox and 33 Liberty Street could be empty? Especially if the Fed has been selling off gold for 15 years to manipulate the gold supply as the author of this article contends.

It leads one to wonder if the Feds will call for another seizure of gold once they run out, so they can restock their supply, at no cost, and continue to inflate and manipulate world prices.

On the other hand if gold market manipulation is in play to keep prices low then that is good for us regular folk who can still buy gold while it is below $1000 an ounce. Once it breaks that ceiling who knows what will happen.. and especially when the dollar begins to really crash and/or hyperinflation hits .. at least the people will have something other than worthless paper in their wallets. (Just like the Capital One commercial: What's in YOUR wallet?)

Gotta admire those Germans though... gold vending machines? Looks like they still remember Weimar Germany.
