FDIC Fund Is Now Negative

Sorry to bring you more bad news - but cable TV isn't even talking about this one, and you really should know about this since you most likely have money in a bank somewhere.

With all of the failing banks this year (95) it is no wonder that the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is now broke.

No surprise here.

The FDIC has stated that it expects the Deposit Insurance Fund reserve ratio to be negative as of September 30. As of today, depositors have no insurance. FDIC's statement is here.

Pursuant to these requirements, staff estimates that both the Fund balance and the reserve ratio as of September 30, 2009, will be negative. This reflects, in part, an increase in provisioning for anticipated failures. In contrast, cash and marketable securities available to resolve failed institutions remain positive.

To top it off, the FDIC has now raised its expectation for bank failure costs from $70 billion $100 billion! Of course, all those "green shoots" withstanding, we can expect those numbers to continue to climb.
Staff has also projected the Fund balance and reserve ratio for each quarter over the next several years using the most recently available information on expected failures and loss rates and statistical analyses of trends in CAMELS downgrades, failure rates and loss rates. Staff projects that, over the period 2009 through 2013, the Fund could incur approximately $100 billion in failure costs. Staff projects that most of these costs will occur in 2009 and 2010. Approximately $25 billion of the $100 billion amount has already been incurred in failure costs so far in 2009. Staff projects that most of these costs will occur in 2009 and 2010.
Of course the DIF has a statutory minimum requirement of 1.15% of all insured deposits (a shortfall of a mere hundred billion or so). So what happened to all that reserve? Hmmmm. looks like it has evaporated. It appears that part of the FDIC’s problem is that it didn’t collect enough revenue over the years to cover today’s losses.

One commenter over at Zerohedge said this:
This is why the phrase "In God We Trust" appears on each note, because there is nobody left to trust who works in the Federal Government. We're broke, the party is over.
In case you hadn't noticed - this is one reason why banking fees are on the rise. Heck, if they get real desperate you might even see a $500 overdraft fee... LOL (ok I guess that isn't really funny). But honestly, they are trying to rake in whatever tidbits they can lay their hands on. Your bank fees will go up substantially, if they haven't already.

Banks have over extended themselves and have put your money in over priced homes and unfinished shopping malls and skyscrapers. They have lent out money to people who could not, and would never have been able to pay back their loans.

The foreclosures continue to pile up and the FDIC is broke.
One good thing is that at least they are being honest about it - instead of all the dolts on MSNBC, etc., who have been candy coating the economic news to make it sound like things are good when they really aren't.

Just thought you should know.
But no run on the banks please - it'll just make things worse.

I smell another big taxpayer funded government bailout - printing presses on full steam ahead.
Perhaps we should all invest in paper and ink?

Why People Are Buying Gold And Silver

From Wikipedia:
The US Dollar Index (USDX) is an index or measure of the value of the United States dollar relative to a basket of foreign currencies. It is a weighted geometric mean of the dollar's value compared to the euro (EUR), Japanese yen (JPY), Pound sterling (GBP), Canadian dollar (CAD), Swedish krona (SEK) and Swiss franc (CHF).

It was started in March 1973, soon after the dismantling of the Bretton Woods system. At that time, the value of the Dollar Index was 100.000 and has since traded as high as the mid-160s but also into the low 70s. As of October 2008, the USDX was trading in the mid-80s. On March 16, 2008, the index reached 70.698, the lowest since its inception in 1973.

The index is updated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is listed on ICE Futures Exchange US (e.g., New York Board of Trade [NYBOT]).

As you can see, the US dollar has been in decline since March, and it doesn't look much like it's going to gain any footing anytime soon. In fact, because the dollar has been so weak there has been talk by some of a new world reserve currency to take its place, although the recent G20 meeting did not recommend this, mostly because they cannot agree on what currency would replace the US Dollar... yet. The World Bank already sees the dollar's role diminishing. Interestingly enough, the Chinese are buying up gold and silver like crazy.

Some say the dollar is being crashed on purpose to pave way for a new world currency along with the much talked about "New World Order". (buh-bye US sovereignty) But I digress....

The dollar isn't backed by anything - it's just printed up by the Federal Reserve. It used to be backed by gold. Now it's just paper.

And of course there is the push to audit the Federal Reserve because there are just some things going on with those private bankers who control our money (unconstitutionally, I might add) that need to be exposed.

Federal Reserve Bank Governor Kevin M. Warsh this past month even acknowledged that the Federal Reserve is concealing records of its gold swap arrangements with foreign banks.

So as the dollar weakens and job losses mount and the government continues on its spending spree ... it looks like the best place to be is in gold and silver, unless you like holding paper that just becomes worth less.

Just thought you might like to know.

Kol Nidre

For Yom Kippur.
The Jewish Day of Atonement.
The holiest day of the year.
...In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and you shall not do any work ... For on that day he shall provide atonement for you to cleanse you from all your sins before the L-RD. -Leviticus 16:29-30

and the Kol Nidre prayer says:

"All personal vows we are likely to make, all personal oaths and pledges we are likely to take between this Yom Kippur and the next Yom Kippur, we publicly renounce. Let them all be relinquished and abandoned, null and void, neither firm nor established. Let our personal vows, pledges and oaths be considered neither vows nor pledges nor oaths."

The leader and the congregation then say together three times "May all the people of Israel be forgiven, including all the strangers who live in their midst, for all the people are in fault." In the service the Torah scrolls are then replaced, and the customary evening service begins.

What it means is that any and all rash vows made to God in the past year, and that for whatever reason were not fulfilled, could have created painful religious and ethical difficulties for those who had made them. There is an earnest desire for dispensation from them in order to wipe clean the slate for the new year. Thus came this rite of absolution from a vow ('hattarat nedarim'). The rite is performed as if in a court of Jewish law (Bet Din) which might be performed only by a scholar, or an expert on the one hand, or by a board of three Jewish laymen on the other.

This rite declares that those who recite Kol Nidre, and are seeking reconciliation with God, solemnly retract the vows and oaths which they have made to God during the period intervening between the previous Day of Atonement and the present one; this rite makes those vows null and void from the beginning, entreating in their stead pardon and forgiveness from God. This is in accordance with the older text of the formula as it is preserved in the Siddur of Amram Gaon.

Some of the YouTube renditions of the Kol Nidre Prayer are really quite lovely, as is the musical performances. here is one from Jarin Lee (Age 9) Naroo Art Center, Seoul, Korea, MAR.2008,

I wish all my Jewish readers a Happy New Year - and an easy fast on Yom Kippur.

Pittsburgh Police Violate The Constitution

Bill of Rights

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

So is this what we have come to?
Are you outraged?
Do you remember what happened at Kent State?

But this - this is happening on the streets of Pittsburgh today and it looks like scenes from Iran or other dictatorships.
What happened to our freedoms?

Forget it America - you have no such freedoms
... just continue shopping and paying taxes.

What will YOU do to get your freedom back?
Will YOU succumb to such tyranny?

When the government fears the people there is liberty; when the people fear the government there is tyranny.- Thomas Jefferson

"The time is now near at hand which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be, Freemen, or Slaves; whether they are to have any property they can call their own; whether their Houses, and Farms, are to be pillaged and destroyed, and they consigned to a State of Wretchedness from which no human efforts will probably deliver them. The fate of unborn Millions will now depend, under God, on the Courage and Conduct of this army" - Gen. George Washington

Interesting Market Analysis - A Storm Is Coming.....

And I have also been following the BearMarket comparison website...

Unemployment is still rising... it's reported as being 20% in Los Angeles.
Commercial real estate is in a real bad place.
Taxes are going up.
We are already seeing inflation at the supermarket. I am getting less for my money.
Credit card debt is on the rise.

Have you bought gold and silver yet? or put it in your portfolio?

Government School Presidential Propaganda

This was filmed at the B. Bernice Young Elementary School in Burlington, NJ and uploaded on June 19, 2009.

It is claimed to be a Black History month activity.
Is it really?
No, it's nauseating propagandist education.
It's the indoctrination of Children of the State.
(Some call it Obama Youth)
Parents should be outraged that their kids are being used in this way.

But it's not just happening in one school:
The Obama Song ("Proud American")
By Mr. B and the students of Room 8
February 2009 (school unknown)

and there are more...

With all the outcry about how poorly our kids are doing in school you would think that their time would be better spent learning to read, write and do mathematics!
Instead they are learning to deify and glorify an American president! with a Socialist agenda wrapped in Crayolas!

It's pretty reminiscent of this type of Leninist propaganda:

or similar displays in North Korea

So is this where our country is headed?

Government school liberal indoctrination has been happening for decades, but this is just another reason why people really ought to consider homeschooling. All on their own, these school videos really make a good case for homeschooling.

American kids are learning to be sheep.
They are learning to parrot and spit back what they are told.
They are learning to repeat slogans.
They are learning to deify our leaders.
They are learning racism as well, disguised as diversity education.
If everyone is equal there should be no labels or categories - and yet curriculum seems to dwell on ethnic and cultural labels at every chance.
They are learning Groupthink.
Even the textbooks are biased.

"Let me control the textbooks and I will control the state. The state will take youth and give to youth its own education and its own upbringing. Your child belongs to us already….what are you?" Adolf Hitler

Sing it loud kids ....

Military Desensitization

WeAreChange Ohio traveled to Newport, Kentucky to investigate the military checkpoints that appeared around the downtown area on September 6, 2009. Officially, this was done for traffic control purposes during the annual Riverfest celebration that is held on both sides of the Ohio River.

Military Police from the U.S. Army National Guard performed a series of tasks throughout the day, which included aiding the local police to close bridges across the river, and to reverse traffic along Monmouth Street in Newport.

Two Military Police officers were located at each corner of Monmouth from the Ohio River to 11th Street, while two Humvees were strategically placed to block traffic onto the Taylor-Southgate Bridge. One of the National Guard members indicated that there were also Marines in the area.

Military Desensitization.

That's what I call it when government puts military on "traffic duty" like this. (As if our military money couldn't be put to better use!). Aside from the blatant trampling of Posse Comitatus, this kind of military presence only gets the public used to seeing military on American streets.

I support our troops as much as the next guy, but honestly, I am not liking this.

We are being desensitized.
Believe it.
And this is one of many many instances across this country where military units are being put on American Streets.

And while "traffic control" seems harmless in and of itself - you must understand that this is what a Police state looks like. Traffic Control to Traffic Stops to Searches to Seizures to Incarceration.

Right now Americans are being taught to feel OK with the MP's presence.
You the public are being quietly taught to obey.

Just think about it a moment, as to why we need military MP's to do the job of regular traffic cops? In "camo gear" no less! With armored vehicles on the roadside. A bit of overkill for "traffic control" don't you think?

It is also quite something to hear MP's unfortunately utter the words "I am just following orders". Additionally, traffic control was probably NOT what these fellows signed up to do on American streets.

Looks like these military guys need to be introduced to Oathkeepers.

Think about it:
Even our kids are being taught to accept this, and being desensitized - just look at their toys:

Children's Toy
Playmobil Airport Security Checkpoint
Teach them young.

Peter Schiff On Freedom Watch

Yeah we DO need a strong national defense - too bad this country is too broke to afford one.

AND

Peter Schiff speaks about the G20

Schiff understands economics.
He understands the proper role of government.
We need him to represent CT in the Senate.

Forced Vaccination In Massachusetts

This is just insane.
People won't stand for it either.
It amounts to medical fascism.
"The United States of America is devolving into medical fascism and Massachusetts is leading the way with the passage of a new bill, the "Pandemic Response Bill" 2028, reportedly just passed by the MA state Senate and now awaiting approval in the House. This bill suspends virtually all Constitutional rights of Massachusetts citizens and forces anyone "suspected" of being infected to submit to interrogations, "decontaminations" and vaccines."...

“Terrorists need no help attacking freedom as long as Massachusetts is in the vaccine game, because this latest form of "gunpoint medicine" destroys freedom for everyday Americans in a way that terrorists could have never hoped to accomplish with all the bombs in the world,”...

Under this bill, Massachusetts becomes a medical police state. There is no debating it. It's all written, clear as day, in this law: The citizens of Massachusetts will have no rights, period. The Constitution is ancient history. You are now the property of the State,” - Michael Adams, Natural New Editor.
May I remind you all that this sort of thing (forced vaccination) violates the following:

Violation of 4th Amendment: Illegal search and seizure
Violation of 14th Amendment; illegal arrest without a warrant

It features:

Government price controls
"Involuntary Transportation" (also known as kidnapping)
$1,000 / day in fines
Forced vaccinations
Forced quarantine for those who refuse (illegal imprisonment without charge)
Arrest for refusal to be "decontaminated"
Interrogation
Forced isolation and quarantine
Forced entry into any home or building
Federal home visit 'intervention teams' funded

Wow! How American!
“There's a lot more in this bill, including language that allows Mass. police to enter any home or building without a search warrant, to destroy any object or building they suspect may pose a threat to public safety, to order the closing and/or decontamination of any facility using highly toxic chemical decontamination agents, and to arrest, detain and interrogate anyone who gets in their way.”

"Meanwhile, all state law enforcement and medical personnel are granted complete immunity from prosecution for their part in violating your Constitutional rights. So if they violate your right to due process, or they accidentally destroy your home, or they kill your family dog because they suspect it might be infected, you have absolutely zero recourse," - Michael Adams, Natural New Editor.

So what can YOU do?

1. You need to become educated about vaccination, influenza, vaccine risks, and the public health laws in your state. Look in your state statutes. Look for organizations in your state (Like CTVIA in CT and NVIC.org) CT laws are here (Sec. 19a-131e.).

2. You need to find out what your rights and options are under new public health laws that may require you and your family/children to get vaccinated or be quarantined.

3. Think about what YOU will do if the government vaccination squad comes knocking on your door.

Remember too, that now the Department of Homeland Security and their officials can declare any disease outbreak (i.e. medical emergency, public health crisis) as being a matter of "homeland security" and that other powers have also been taken by the government in various pieces of "crisis legislation" that have already passed in many state legislatures as well as through Executive Orders from the White House.

They feel they can take your rights (what's left of them) in a crisis, and we all know that the Obama adminsitration (Rahm Emanuel, et. al.), won't ever let a crisis "go to waste".

Keep in mind that the Department of Defense officials have already defined public demonstrations as “low level terrorism”.

The Miami Herald reported that the Centers for Disease Control have already in the works plans to re-route airplanes to designated airports with quarantine centers to screen all passengers for signs of swine flu. (Unfortunately, that article is no longer available online)

In the meantime, fast-tracked experimental swine flu vaccines have been created, and are being given to American children first! and given what happened the last time swine flu vaccines were handed out I can only imagine more people getting sick from it (or dying). Some people are even going so far to say that this is a means of purposeful population control by some very evil people.

Thanks, but I don't want this government's vaccines, and I certainly won't appreciate it being forced on me or my countrymen.

John Taylor Gatto And State Controlled Consciousness

Processing children like raw materials.
Gives a whole new perspective on "In Loco Parentis".
"Every child in America entering school at the age of five is mentally ill because he comes to school with certain allegiances to our founding fathers, toward our elected officials, toward his parents, toward a belief in a supernatural being, and toward the sovereignty of this nation as a separate entity. It's up to you as teachers to make all these sick children well by creating the international child of the future." - Harvard psychiatrist Chester M. Pierce, speaking as an expert in public education at the 1973 International Education Seminar

If you haven't read his book - "The Underground History of American Education", then you really should try to get around to doing so.

Pratt And Whitney Closes Facilities In CT

In this statement from Pratt and Whitney on the Decision to Close Cheshire Engine Center and Conn. Airfoil Repair Operations:
Tom Mayes, Vice President, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines & Global Services [stated]

"Despite our best efforts and those of the IAM and the state, we have been unsuccessful in identifying a reasonable alternative to keep the Cheshire Engine Center and Connecticut Airfoil Repair Operations (CARO) businesses open. As a result, we are going to begin the process of closing these two facilities. CARO will be closed by Q2 2010 and Cheshire by early 2011.

This was an extremely difficult decision. We share the union and state's commitment to keeping good jobs in Connecticut. The best way to protect the jobs that remain is to ensure we are competitive in a rapidly changing industry and challenging global economy.

The company has made every effort and explored all options to preserve this work - including assigning extra value to options that kept jobs in Connecticut.

Unfortunately, the reality we are facing is a dramatic and sustained drop in volume, a shifting customer base and a declining aerospace market. We would like to extend our appreciation to the employees of these two facilities. This decision is in no way a reflection of their skills, dedication and professionalism, and during this time of transition we will provide employees with the support their hard work and service to our company deserves. With the exception of volume-related layoffs, we do not anticipate any immediate workforce reductions as a result of this decision. Layoffs will be phased beginning in early 2010.

We thank the State of Connecticut - particularly Governor Rell and the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, the Connecticut delegation - and the union for working hard to try to avoid this outcome. We appreciate their responsiveness and initiative. Unfortunately, the union's proposals and the state's offer, which we value together at $30.8 million, still left us far short of the $53.8 million in annual recurring, quantifiable savings needed to keep these operations competitive and preserve this work in Connecticut.

We estimated that the union's final proposal would generate approximately $26 million in annual savings. The additional savings they proposed - potential savings such as working together to reduce overtime and improvements through our manufacturing processes - were not quantifiable and therefore could not be factored into our economic analysis. All of which would be subject to renegotiation when the contract expires in December 2010.

The State of Connecticut made a generous and creative proposal in an unprecedented effort to keep jobs in the state. However, the key issues for Cheshire and CARO are volume losses, labor costs, and the sustainability of these operations in the long-term. The state's proposal could not sufficiently address these critical issues.

The final proposal from the company, took into account the offerings of the union and the state would have kept the work in Connecticut had it been accepted by the union. Unfortunately, the union rejected our proposal.

Now it is time to move forward - quickly and deliberately. We will begin transition planning immediately to ensure that our customer commitments are maintained and the transition is as seamless as possible. Our commitment to the operational readiness of our military customer is, as always, paramount and without compromise.

And our commitment to our employees will include severance pay, continued group health insurance, outplacement services and up to four years of continued educational assistance through the UTC Scholar program for those who are eligible. Because of the market realities we face, time is of the essence. These realities include a dramatic and sustained drop in volumes, a shifting customer base and a declining aerospace market. The aerospace industry is experiencing a severe economic downturn of historic proportions. This makes the need for a timely decision imperative.

Recently, the Director General and CEO of the International Air Transport Association announced that airline losses are expected to be $11 billion in 2009 and the scale of this crisis is bigger than the impact of Sept. 11, 2001, on the aerospace industry. We are not immune to the massive aerospace downturn that already has claimed 30,000 industry jobs this year. The hard fact is that the issues we face will not materially change when the economy recovers. The consolidation in our industry due to the downturn, the facilities' uncompetitive cost structures, and our changing customer base are not temporary factors. When the market does recover, the growth for the commercial, non-military work performed at these shops is projected to be primarily in Asia. We have a responsibility to our employees, our customers and our shareholders to position the company for long-term success. Our competitors are restructuring to reduce costs and we must do the same.

To be competitive and retain Connecticut jobs, we must listen to our customers and respond to market realities. If we do not position ourselves to be competitive, our customers will take their business elsewhere, and the associated volume reductions would result in even greater job losses. The only way we are going to be able to keep those jobs is to structure ourselves to be competitive in the emerging market environment.

We've responded to these market forces before when we relocated 1,200 Pratt & Whitney engineers here from Florida, reflecting not only our commitment to Connecticut, but also the change in our business - a change that has resulted in an increase in higher paying, higher value-added work that can make long-term sense in this high-cost location. What has remained unchanged is our long-standing commitment to Connecticut - one our parent company and the largest private employer in the state , UTC, shares. Since 2003, UTC has grown its employee population here by more than 3 percent, creating more than 900 new jobs, 500 of which were union-represented jobs at Sikorsky.Pratt & Whitney still plans to be a vital member of the Connecticut community, with 10,000 employees remaining in the state. We look forward to continuing to work in close partnership with the state to cultivate a dynamic business environment and position Connecticut and our company for growth and success for years to come."
And there you have it.... Pratt is leaving because it just costs too much to do business here in Connecticut. Our state legislature and the unions have put the final nails in the coffin of this company's ability to do business in this state. High energy costs, high taxes and other costs have just made it a losing proposition for them to stay here. And why should they stay here, if they can get a better deal somewhere else? Does anyone running the State in Hartford understand the realities of doing business? Don't they see the albatross that they continually place on the producers in our State?

How many more companies must we see leave CT before the State legislature and union bosses get a clue?

And as for continually taxing and burdening those who create jobs and actually produce stuff, by those who legislate on behalf of special interests, this reads like a paragraph out of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged:
"when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors--when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you--when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice--you may know that your society is doomed....

You stand in the midst of the greatest achievements of the greatest productive civilization and you wonder why it's crumbling around you, while you're damning its life-blood--money. You look upon money as the savages did before you, and you wonder why the jungle is creeping back to the edge of your cities. Throughout men's history, money was always seized by looters of one brand or another, whose names changed, but whose method remained the same: to seize wealth by force and to keep the producers bound, demeaned, defamed, deprived of honor. That phrase about the evil of money, which you mouth with such righteous recklessness, comes from a time when wealth was produced by the labor of slaves--slaves who repeated the motions once discovered by somebody's mind and left unimproved for centuries. So long as production was ruled by force, and wealth was obtained by conquest, there was little to conquer, Yet through all the centuries of stagnation and starvation, men exalted the looters, as aristocrats of the sword, as aristocrats of birth, as aristocrats of the bureau, and despised the producers, as slaves, as traders, as shopkeepers--as industrialists.
Way to go Connecticut.

Come To The CT Liberty Forum!

For the second year in a row, liberty comes to Connecticut. The second annual Connecticut Liberty Forum will be held at the Sheraton Hotel, at the Bradley Airport, in Windsor Locks on October 17, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Liberty Forum is not about politics. It’s not about political parties. The Liberty Forum is about the Constitution. It’s about educating the public about the meaning of the Constitution, and how its provisions are being implemented in terms of the issues facing Americans today.

The theme of this year’s Liberty Forum is: “The Economy and the Constitution: How Do We Protect Our Economic Freedom in a Constitutional Manner?” The Connecticut Liberty Forum will bring together people from all walks of life, from federal, state, and local government leaders, to authors, to taxpayers, to grassroots citizens. Discussions will be held throughout the day on topics such as: the Constitutionality of federal bailouts; the role of the federal reserve; how to balance the budget and assist those in need during difficult economic downturns; what is a sound money system; and how can individuals protect and defend our economic and Constitutional freedom?

This year’s keynote speaker will be Congresswoman Michele Bachmann of Minnesota. Congresswoman Bachmann has been cast as a somewhat controversial public figure for her recent stand in questioning federal treasury officials about whether their actions, indeed, are Constitutional. Congresswoman Bachmann is expected to give the keynote speech addressing the recent actions of Congress and the executive branch in resolving the current economic crisis. Congresswoman Bachmann’s speech will be presented at a brunch at 10:00 a.m. (There is a separate admission fee for this)

Others attending and topics of their talks include:

Robert Schulz, founder, We the People Foundation for Constitutional Education, “Continental Congress 2009, the Next Step for A Free People”;

Back Home From Campaign For Liberty Conference

The Campaign For Liberty Conference was held in Valley Forge, PA, this past weekend, and it was spectacular! With speakers such as Judge Andrew Napolitano, British MEP Daniel Hannan, Tom Woods, Peter Schiff and Ron Paul, it was totally worth attending. Meeting each one personally was wonderful, but their speeches were inspiring and very well delivered. I was glad, and humbled, to be a part of such a gathering of Constitutional scholars and Liberty activists.

Topics discussed were everything from grassroots organizing to help preserve and defend our Constitution to putting precious metals into your IRA.
It was great fun and wonderful to hear such terrific speakers.

Ron Paul

Judge Napolitano

British MEP Daniel Hannan

There is more written at the Campaign For Liberty website.

Afterwards, my family and I visited Valley Forge, and that was thrilling as well.

If you've never been to Valley Forge, you really ought to take a trip. It's totally worth it.

Constitution Day

Today is the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States, 222 years ago on Sept. 17, 1787.
"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government." Ayn Rand {WMail Issue #36}

Here are some things you should know about our Constitution and our government courtesy of the Tenth Amendment Center:
1. The People created the federal government to be their agent for certain enumerated purposes only. The Constitutional ratifying structure was created so it would be clear that it was the People, and not the States, that were doing the ratifying.

2. The Tenth Amendment defines the total scope of federal power as being that which has been delegated by the people to the federal government, and also that which is absolutely necessary to advancing those powers specifically enumerated in the Constitution of the United States. The rest is to be handled by the state governments, or locally, by the people themselves.

3. The Constitution does not include a congressional power to override state laws. It does not give the judicial branch unlimited jurisdiction over all matters. It does not provide Congress with the power to legislate over everything. This is verified by the simple fact that attempts to make these principles part of the Constitution were soundly rejected by its signers.

4. If the Congress had been intended to carry out anything they claim would promote the “general welfare,” what would be the point of listing its specific powers in Article I, Section 8, since these would’ve already been covered?

5. James Madison, during the Constitutional ratification process, drafted the “Virginia Plan” to give Congress general legislative authority and to empower the national judiciary to hear any case that might cause friction among the states, to give the congress a veto over state laws, to empower the national government to use the military against the states, and to eliminate the states’ accustomed role in selecting members of Congress. Each one of these proposals was soundly defeated. In fact, Madison made many more attempts to authorize a national veto over state laws, and these were repeatedly defeated as well.

6. The Tenth Amendment was adopted after the Constitutional ratification process to emphasize the fact that the states remained individual and unique sovereignties; that they were empowered in areas that the Constitution did not delegate to the federal government. With this in mind, any federal attempt to legislate beyond the Constitutional limits of Congress’ authority is a usurpation of state sovereignty - and unconstitutional.

7. Tragically, the Tenth Amendment has become almost a nullity at this point in our history, but there are a great many reasons to bring it to the forefront. Most importantly, though, we must keep in mind that the Founders envisioned a loose confederation of states – not a one-size-fits-all solution for everything that could arise. Why? The simple answer lies in the fact that they had just escaped the tyranny of a king who thought he knew best how to govern everything – including local colonies from across an ocean.

8. Governments and political leaders are best held accountable to the will of the people when government is local. Second, the people of a state know what is best for them; they do not need bureaucrats, potentially thousands of miles away, governing their lives. Think about it. If Hitler had ruled just Berlin and Stalin had ruled just Moscow, the whole world might be a different place today.

9. A constitution which does not provide strict limits is just the thing any government would be thrilled to have, for, as Lord Acton once said, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

10. We agree with historian Kevin Gutzman, who has said that those who would give us a “living” Constitution are actually giving us a dead one, since such a thing is completely unable to protect us against the encroachments of government power.

According to a report on PRWeb
This year, seven states have passed sovereignty resolutions under the 10th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Two states passed laws nullifying some federal firearms regulations. Thirteen states now have Medical Marijuana laws in direct opposition to federal laws. And three states are considering constitutional amendments allowing residents to effectively opt-out of any future national health care plan.

Please, take some time today and read the Constitution.

Also - have some fun with Constitution Facts

One Difference Between Liberals And Tea Partiers...

This is what the National Mall looked like after the Obama Inauguration:

Our beautiful National Mall was strewn with trash - showing the total lack of respect attendees of the inauguration had for our Capitol.

On the other hand -

This is what the National Mall looked like after 2 million "tea partiers" visited Washington on 9-12-09

The 9-12 Marchers made sure that everything was left as they found it - in fact many brought their own trash bags and offered to dispose of your trash for you. There was a kindness and respect displayed that was refreshing and something to be proud of.

The difference?
Liberals expect everyone else to clean up their trash.
Where were all those "environmentalists" on inauguration day who were supposed to have so much respect for their environment?

It looks like Constitutionalists don't sit around waiting for big government or anyone else to clean up after their messes and they certainly displayed far more respect for their environment.

The proof is in the photos.

9-12 March On Washington

It was awesome - unbelievable - and there WERE about 2 Million (some police estimated 3.6 Million) people there at the Washington March. For every person who came to Washington, there were probably 5 to 10 more who could not come, but wanted to be there.

No matter how much the cable media down plays this event - IT WAS BIG! and We the People will NOT be ignored.

I have to tell you - this event went beyond my wildest expectations. It was an honor and a privilege to be a part of this amazing event. You cannot imagine how it was to see Americans fill the streets from the lawn and steps of the Capitol all the way up to the Washington Monument AND up Pennsylvania Avenue!

The police were overheard as saying there were 3.6 million.
The park rangers said they have never seen a bigger crowd AND we left barely any litter (unlike the President's inauguration which left the mall littered with bottles and trash!).
There were NO arrests.

There were people there from every state of the union.
I even met people from Australia and Austria who were proud too to be part of this event. They said that these Americans were an inspiration and the world's hope to maintain freedom and it's Republic.

People were so kind and friendly - and were so positive and relished their rights to redress of grievances, gather in freedom and to speak freely.

It was laughable that Fox, CNN and ABC and MSNBC had reported that there were only 60,000-75,000 in attendance. I think that is how many were on line for the bathroom alone! But seriously, there were so many people! and the Expressway was backed up as well! And as for the media - we don't care anymore - the mainstream media lies, and they are becoming more and more irrelevant. Look at YouTube videos and hear what the bloggers have to say - they are the NEW Media.

The pictures and videos tell the story.
Listen to the black speakers like Mason Weaver and singers like Lloyd Marcus and Hispanic speakers like Mario Lopez and Hector Barreto. And one of the best speeches of the day was delivered by Rev.C.L.Bryant

There were even Conservative Jews blowing the shofar!
So this is NOT about race.
Don't let the media fool you.
Don't believe their lies and their spin.
This was about preserving the Constitution, and our Liberty and Freedom.

It is a disgrace that the American media portrays these Americans as "Right Wing kooks" and racists. These people were all everyday Americans who traveled from the Rockies - from the farmlands and plains - from the cities and seasides of America. This was not "just" a "Conservative Event" or "Astroturf"... there were Democrats speaking - there were Libertarians speaking - there were Republicans speaking - at this event. And as for the notion that these people protesting are somehow racist; there were people of all colors and backgrounds at this rally - they were old and young - able bodied and disabled. They all came out from across this great country to protest Socialism - over reaching government - erosion of freedom - corruption in government and other issues that our government has presented to us.

These people represented the true America - hardworking people from all walks of life, who sacrificed much in this recession to come out and make their voices heard on the lawn of the Capitol and beyond. They are people who truly love and respect the greatness of our country - our Constitutional rights - unalienable rights given to us NOT by government - but by our Creator. These Americans recognize that government is supposed to protect our rights - NOT restrict them.

This crowd of 2 million or more gave me hope that we can save this Republic. We will NOT go quietly into the night while politicians try to insert Socialism and Nanny State policies into our lives. A sleeping giant has been awakened and every tea party draws more to the light of Liberty.

The public is awakening and they are on the march.
"We The People" will not tolerate being belittled, marginalized, ridiculed or ignored.

Politicians are on notice.
"We The People" are watching and we will not stand by idly to watch the further destruction of this Republic.

Mr. Obama and Congress - Can You Hear Us Now?

Great aerial shots here...
Great post and pictures here too...

Obama Gets Heckled

Looks like the Town Hall has spilled over into Congress. Rep Joe Wilson (SC-R) yells out, 'You Lie' while Obama speaks after Obama had talked about illegal immigrants not getting health coverage under his health plan during this joint session of Congress in the House of Representatives.

There is language in the healthcare bill which says illegal immigrants will be excluded, however, there is NO verification system to keep illegal immigrants from getting in on healthcare coverage offered by this plan! Some point out that this tactic is similar to laws that say sanctuary cities (for illegal aliens) are illegal. Those laws carry no penalty, so it has no teeth and it creates a broken system. The same will be true with this healthcare bill in its present form - with regard to illegal aliens. There is nothing in this bill to prevent people who are in this country illegally from accessing publicly (taxpayer) funded healthcare. Dean Heller tried to attach an amendment to this legislation that would have added a requirement to use a verification system to ensure that illegal aliens would be excluded, but when the amendment came up for a vote, all of the Democrats voted against it, and all of the Republicans voted for it.
"Under H.R. 3200, a 'Health Insurance Exchange' would begin operation in 2013 and would offer private plans alongside a public option… H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens—whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently—participating in the Exchange." - The Congressional Research Service (part of the Library of Congress) 11 page report on August 25, 2009. Summary on page 2, 3rd paragraph
With regard to the rest of the speech, there were other points of interruption. Republicans laughed when Obama acknowledged that there are still significant details to be worked out before a health overhaul can be passed. Rep. Louis Gohmert (TX - R), held up hand-written signs that read "Where's the bill?”, “What plan?”, and “What bill?” Other Republican members held up written copies of draft legislation that they sponsored.

Afterwards, Rep. Wilson apologized for his outburst. He said that he was sorry that he let his emotions carry him away.
Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., tried to call Obama to apologize in person, but ended up speaking to White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.

The contrite congressman, "expressed his apologies" to Emanuel, not the president at whom he had shouted a few hours earlier, Wilson's office said.

By that time, Wilson's House Web site had crashed and he had taken a brutal beating on his Twitter page for breaching protocol and good manners during a presidential speech to a joint session of Congress.

"This evening I let my emotions get the best of me," Wilson said in a statement. "While I disagree with the president's statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility."

I don't think Rep. Wilson had anything to apologize for.
Mr. Obama has lied... and on numerous occasions too.
The public is sick of it.
Just look at his approval ratings.

Lack of Civility?
It's about time someone calls Obama out in this manner.
And besides, if the President and his "Czars" wants us to be more like Britain, then this is how they act in their Parliament too.
Maybe he should get used to it.

The Girl Scouts Won't Just Be Selling Cookies Anymore

Yahoo news reported: US Girl Scouts prepare for war, pestilence

Apparently the US government now wants to enlist America's 3.4 million Girl Scouts in the effort to combat hurricanes, pandemics, terror attacks and other disasters. They are partnering with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and have launched a campaign to get the girls to be more prepared, and will even give them a special patch for their sashes. The introduction of this new patch marks a partnership between the Girl Scouts and Citizen Corps. Citizens Corps is a "community-based initiative" under Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which coordinates national response to disasters.
"This new preparedness patch will increase citizen preparedness and enhance our country's readiness for disasters," said DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano in a statement.

"As a former Girl Scout, I know the 'Be Prepared' motto well, and I look forward to working with the Girl Scouts to spread the preparedness message to all of our nation's citizens."
It is said that this isn't the first time the Girl Scouts have been called into action in "defense of the homeland". They "operated bicycle courier services, invested more than 48,000 hours in Farm Aid projects, collected fat and scrap metal, and grew Victory Gardens," during the second world war. They also hosted remembrance ceremonies and wrote thank-you letters to rescuer workers after 9-11.

I have a son who is an Eagle Scout and a daughter who was in the Girl Scouts. The difference between these two programs is like night and day. The Boy Scouts truly promote independence and self reliance: first aid, survival skills, civics and a host of other useful endeavors. The Girl Scouts, on the other hand, has become a liberal institution promoting globalism and pushing left wing ideology; everything from global warming to literature from Planned Parenthood. My daughter didn't stay in it for too long. It offered little in camping skills, or any other useful skills for that matter, and was more about selling cookies and "celebrating diversity". It was a huge disappointment and certainly was nothing like the girl scouting organization I grew up with.

Can we expect them to be selling cookies during the hurricanes? It doesn't seem to me that they are really equipped to do much more.

It is no surprise that they are partnering with the Government.

Today Is 09/09/09

Interesting date.

There's lots of buzz amongst numerologists and those who contemplate spiritual aspects of our being.

9 is the end of a cycle in certain Numerology Systems. So this day has some meaning regarding an end of a cycle.

It is also said that each time you repeat a number in sequence, its meaning moves to a higher octave/frequency. (and it is said that reality is created by harmonic frequencies)

September 9, 2009, is the 252nd day of the year, 2+5+2 adds to 9, and 09x09x09 = 27 (2+7=9).

09-09-09 is also the last of the single-digits dates for quite a while - 92 years to be precise. Next date is 01/01/01 in 2101. Next repeating date will be 10/10/10.

Also 09/09/09 arrives in Virgo (August 23 to September 23 ), also known as a time of transition.

999 is the emergency number in England like 911 is here in the USA.

999 upside down is 666, which of course carries meaning for many people. In numerology (9+9+9 = 27 (2+7) = 9) and (6+6+6 = 18 (1+8) = 9)

Then there is the magic nines - which every school kid learns. In the nine times table, the digits of each product sum to nine. (1x9=9 (9=9) , 2x9=18 (1+8=9), 3x9=27 (2+7=9), 4x9=36 (3+6)=9 ... etc.)

Also interesting is that this year 09/09/09 falls on a Wednesday and both Wednesday and September have 9 letters.

But for me - it's payday - and that is always a good day.

Have a wonderful day!

And He Won In A Court Of Law

Now kids, you may not want to try this at home... but it's an interesting legal challenge none the less...

In this troubleshooters report: A Pender County man who refuses to get a license plate, registration, or insurance on his truck. Donald Sullivan says the Constitution gives us the right to travel the public highways, and he shouldn't be charged or regulated for simply exercising his right...

Obama's Speech To America's Schoolchildren

Obama's speech will be beamed into most classrooms/schools on September 8th.

The Department of Education along with the Teaching Ambassadors Fellows provided lesson plans and activities for all grade levels. Questions have been raised regarding the constitutionality of such an action (and yeah, I know presidents have done it before).

According to the former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Education, Christina Erland Culver, the classroom activities/curriculum provided by Obama's education department as an accompaniment to his speech may violate federal statute.
Christina Erland Culver, former deputy assistant secretary for education, said presidents have traditionally addressed classrooms on the first day of school, but the problem with the event was the accompanying materials from the Department of Education.

“That’s where they kind of got into a slippery spot. Federal statute denies any authority to the Department of Education to provide any kind of curriculum or anything that can be passed down to the state, and that’s part of the statute forming the Department of Education. So they kinda got themselves into this mess because they didn’t really understand some of the key legal roles or the dos and don’ts at the federal Department of Ed,” she said.

US Code (TITLE 20 > CHAPTER 48 > SUBCHAPTER I > § 3401)

§ 3401. Congressional findings says this:
The Congress finds that—
(1) education is fundamental to the development of individual citizens and the progress of the Nation;

(2) there is a continuing need to ensure equal access for all Americans to educational opportunities of a high quality, and such educational opportunities should not be denied because of race, creed, color, national origin, or sex;

(3) parents have the primary responsibility for the education of their children, and States, localities, and private institutions have the primary responsibility for supporting that parental role;

(4) in our Federal system, the primary public responsibility for education is reserved respectively to the States and the local school systems and other instrumentalities of the States;

(5) the American people benefit from a diversity of educational settings, including public and private schools, libraries, museums and other institutions, the workplace, the community, and the home;

(6) the importance of education is increasing as new technologies and alternative approaches to traditional education are considered, as society becomes more complex, and as equal opportunities in education and employment are promoted;

(7) there is a need for improvement in the management and coordination of Federal education programs to support more effectively State, local, and private institutions, students, and parents in carrying out their educational responsibilities;

(8) the dispersion of education programs across a large number of Federal agencies has led to fragmented, duplicative, and often inconsistent Federal policies relating to education;

(9) Presidential and public consideration of issues relating to Federal education programs is hindered by the present organizational position of education programs in the executive branch of the Government; and

(10) there is no single, full-time, Federal education official directly accountable to the President, the Congress, and the people.

and....

TITLE 20 > CHAPTER 48 > SUBCHAPTER I > § 3403
§ 3403. Relationship with States
(a) Rights of local governments and educational institutions
It is the intention of the Congress in the establishment of the Department to protect the rights of State and local governments and public and private educational institutions in the areas of educational policies and administration of programs and to strengthen and improve the control of such governments and institutions over their own educational programs and policies. The establishment of the Department of Education shall not increase the authority of the Federal Government over education or diminish the responsibility for education which is reserved to the States and the local school systems and other instrumentalities of the States.

(b) Curriculum, administration, and personnel; library resources
No provision of a program administered by the Secretary or by any other officer of the Department shall be construed to authorize the Secretary or any such officer to exercise any direction, supervision, or control over the curriculum, program of instruction, administration, or personnel of any educational institution, school, or school system, over any accrediting agency or association, or over the selection or content of library resources, textbooks, or other instructional materials by any educational institution or school system, except to the extent authorized by law.

(c) Funding under pre-existing programs
The Secretary shall not, during the period within eight months after May 4, 1980, take any action to withhold, suspend, or terminate funds under any program transferred by this chapter by reason of the failure of any State to comply with any applicable law requiring the administration of such a program through a single organizational unit.

Bottomline - Obama's speech is supposed to inspire kids to set goals, go to school, stay in school and become something. Blah blah blah...

He also says:
"We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems. If you don’t do that – if you quit on school – you’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country...

So I expect you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don’t let us downdon’t let your family or your country or yourself down. Make us all proud. I know you can do it..

Wow - Guilt trip from the president!

I wonder how this will make the really little kids (K-3) feel.
Worried? Anxious? Pressured?
Will all kids feel they have let their country down when they get a "D" or an "F" on their next homework assignment? Will they be making or striving for accomplishments in the name of the State instead of for themselves? Who knows.

Also, despite the fact that his mother supplemented his schooling with her version of "homeschooling", it sounds like his speech is suggesting that dropping out of school and getting an alternate education would be "letting our country down". It sounds like only government schooling will make a child successful. You know, there have been many successful dropouts. Government schooling is not for everyone.

He also uses the word "I" 36 times (plus 7 more is you count "I'm") which is interesting.

His message is not much different then any principal's first day assembly address, but I suppose the White House wants to make sure Obama gets seen and heard by America's kids.

So how many more times will he be speaking to the kids?
Is this just the warm up act?

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this one - and hope that his speech does inspire kids ... (and let's see if test scores improve as a result), but I hope this president doesn't make targeted addresses like this a recurring and usual habit.

Got "D"?

Fresh air and sunshine is good for you.
So - what are you doing inside?

Unemployment By The Numbers

It's Labor Day. Summer is over - kids are pretty much back to school. Autumn is around the corner, and many of us are unfortunately out of work.

It's not particularly cheery information for a Labor Day post, but ignoring this growing unemployment or candy coating what's happening around us is of no use either. The Associated Press put out this report at the end of August, Meltdown 101: Unemployment by the numbers which contains some very sobering statistics regarding labor and unemployment in our country.
The Department of Labor report released Friday showed job cuts in August were lower than they've been in recent months. But a deeper look at the data shows why it will take millions of new jobs to dig American workers out of this recession's deep pit.

Unemployment for teenagers stands at nearly 26 percent. More than 758,000 workers are so discouraged they quit looking for jobs altogether, near the biggest such number since the Department of Labor started tracking it in 1994. Damage continues to mount in the manufacturing, financial and construction sectors.

In all, some 14.9 million people are out of work and looking for a job.

This means it will take several quarters of economic growth to put the unemployed back to work. About 125,000 jobs need to be created each month just to keep up with the natural increase in the number of job seekers from immigration and population growth. Even if that number is surpassed in coming months, it will take a very long time to make up all the lost ground.

The data show that unemployment is deep, widespread and lasting longer than usual.

This is being termed the worst downturn in decades, and the stimulus that was rushed through Congress with the promise that it was going to stem growing unemployment has obviously not produced results. Employment is reported at 9.7% and has grown 4.7% since December 2007 - before the recession began. Some estimates even have employment to be as high as 16.8% as millions are NOT being counted in the official numbers. (ex: recent college graduates who cannot find employment)

Estimates are that the official numbers will go even higher, to 10% by year's end.

Here are some statistics from the labor report:
24.9 weeks: The average duration that unemployed workers are out of a job, near the highest level since the Department of Labor started tracking the figure in 1948.

4.98 million: The number of people unemployed longer than 27 weeks, also the highest level since World War II, although the growth in the size of the labor market over time contributes to that.

9 million: The number of workers forced to take part-time jobs who would rather work more hours.

25.5 percent: The unemployment rate among teenagers, the highest level on record since 1948, breaking the previous high of 24.1 set in 1982.

10.1 percent: The unemployment rate for men over age 20.

7.6 percent: The unemployment rate for women over age 20.

8.9 percent: The unemployment rate for white workers over 16 years old, short of the record 9.7 percent from 1982.

15.1 percent: The unemployment rate for black workers over 16 years old, far short of the record 21.2 percent from 1983.

13 percent: The unemployment rate for Latino workers over 16 years old, short of the record 15.7 hit in 1982.

1.4 million: The number of construction jobs lost since December 2007 as the housing crisis intensified.

65,000: The number of construction jobs lost in August, mostly in nonresidential and heavy construction.

537,000: The number of financial sector jobs lost since the recession began, including 28,000 shed in August.

829,000: The number of retail jobs lost since the recession started and consumers pulled back spending, including 10,000 lost in August.

Open Carry In Connecticut

Yeah - it's legal...
but people in Connecticut have been hassled about carrying openly.

The Connecticut Constitution, Article 1: Section 15 says:
"Every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state"

In any case, Connecticut Citizens Defense League hosted a picnic at Boothe Memorial Park in Stratford and members and their families celebrated our 2nd amendment rights, and the right to open carry in CT. Guns were holstered the whole time. No alcohol was served. It was good to exercise our rights.

We enjoyed burgers and lots of other good food, comraderie and good conversation.

Here is their mission statement:
The Connecticut Citizens Defense League is a non-partisan, grassroots organization devoted to advocating rights affirmed by the Constitutions of the United States of America and the State of Connecticut. We are especially dedicated to protecting the unalienable right of all citizens to keep and bear arms, for the defense of both self and state, through public enlightenment and legislative action.

We welcome anyone who believes that the defense of our constitutional rights is critical to the longevity of our freedom and to the success of this nation, and in particular that the rights to self defense and to keep and bear the arms to actualize that defense, are fundamental and undeniable.

It was a wonderful afternoon with a great bunch of nice people who clearly know and understand the law, their rights, and the proper and safe handling of firearms.

UPDATE:
Connecticut Board of Firearm Examiners issued a report last year that permit holders have no duty to conceal their firearms.
"it is illegal to carry a handgun, whether concealed or openly, without a permit, except in one's home or place of business (CGS § 29-35(a))."
