Consumers Draw Down Savings For Personal Consumption

So should we cheer that personal consumption jumped a bit? Nope - not at all.

This from the Daily Capitalist:

February results showed that flat income growth caused consumers to tap into their savings to finance purchases of goods and services, which were up only 0.3% Month over Month (MoM). This means that personal savings decreased. These are negative indicators for the economy.
...
there are long-term trends in the economy and significant among those is increased savings as a result of financial uncertainty and the lack of sufficient savings by Boomers for retirement.

If savings are a main motivation of consumers, and because wages are flat to declining, then a reduction in savings to fund consumer purchases is not a good thing for the economy. It means that as soon as consumers feel they have sufficient income to continue to save, they will do so, and PCE (personal consumption expenditures) will remain flat for an extended period of time.

Look at what drove PCE in February. The largest component was purchases of non-durable goods which is food and clothing (up 0.9%). Without the component of food and fuel (which has been rising in price), PCE was flat. People need food and clothing. And they have to drive and heat their homes. These aren’t exactly elective purchases. The fact that they are dipping into savings is not healthy organic growth of PCE.

The article quotes recent numbers from a release by the Bureau of Economic Analysis along with a report by Bloomberg.

Consumers may look like they are spending a bit more, but it isn't because they are making more money or because they are reacting to some pent up demand. People are buying what they need and they are using money that they may have tucked away for a rainy day. That doesn't bode well at all.

And in a related story: This from Zerohedge.com How the Census will skew unemployment numbers.

Dentistry Simulation Androids

I found this article and thought it was kind of cool and interesting... so I am sharing it.

Aspiring Japanese dentists can now look forward to honing their skills with a robotic simulator, where mistakes won't have serious consequences.

Developers at Showa University and robot maker Tmsuk say Hanako Showa, designed to look just like a 5-foot-tall Japanese woman, is the first of her kind in the world.

Offering realistic treatment scenarios, she can open and close her mouth, turn her head, and say "Ouch! It hurts!" She can also interact verbally with students, answering questions like, "Are you OK?"

The developers plan to commercialize Hanako for sales to university dentistry schools. Graduates who get the chance to work with Hanako will at least have some experience with a patient who doesn't dread appointments.

Prisoners Being Used As Body Scanner Guinea Pigs

This report by SF Bayview is really not too surprising; disturbing but not surprising. I have read various reports over the years of pharmaceutical companies using prisoners to test their drugs too.

What's interesting is that some prisoners are now suing.

In Illinois, federal judges have allowed at least two lawsuits to proceed against correctional officials for using full body scanners to reveal the anatomy of both prisoners and visitors without removing their clothing. ...

The Federal Bureau of Prisons officials have been forcing inmates at USP Big Sandy to submit to random computerized tomographic whole body radioactive scanners. If they refuse to submit to these radiation experiments, prison officials are charging them with disobeying a direct order and subjecting them to a wide range of sanctions, including but not limited to loss of good time credits, resulting in an extended time in prison, even if they agree to be subjected to an ordinary visual strip search as a reasonable alternative to radiation exposure from the whole body scanner. These images are saved and viewed by male and female staff and available online to certain civilian populations.

Now there may be some dispute over the real amount of radiation that people are being subjected to; the company claims it is one number, and those being exposed to the radiation claim differently. Someone needs to get to the bottom of this especially if millions of travelers (especially frequent travelers) will be exposed to these body scanners at airports. And more importantly - an investigation into this kind of abuse of prisoners in our jails should be made.

This is an issue that definitely bears watching, and certainly deserves more reporting in the mainstream media. (Good luck with that!)

Happy Passover!

Consent of the Governed wishes all who celebrate Passover, beginning sundown tonight, a healthy and happy holiday. As the story of the Exodus from Egypt is retold, we should remember that people throughout the centuries have yearned to be free from tyranny and oppression. That is still very true today. We still fight to preserve our freedom both in the world in which we live as well as within ourselves.

At the Passover Seder we recount the story of the Exodus from Egypt, and throughout the week we reflect on how we can free ourselves from some of our own modern day and sometimes self imposed slavery. Slavery comes in many forms. Aside from the obvious possibility of living in freedom versus tyranny with respect to those who govern us and make our laws, we can be slaves on a more personal and internal level. We can be slaves to those to whom we owe something. We can be slaves to our past. We can be slaves to our own bad habits and vices. We can be slaves to our impulses and we can be slaves to time and technology. We can be slaves to our bank account or our credit card bills. We can be slaves to our wants and desires.

Passover gives us a space and some time to think about what we must do to make our own personal Exodus from the things that enslave us.

Sarah Palin Stumping For McCain

Gov. Palin just seems to make herself look more hypocritical and foolish than ever. I can tell you one thing - many Tea Partiers and Liberty Movement folks aren't buying her act. Some of them have even spoken out and have been ejected from the rallies that she speaks at. But - she does have her following - no denying that.

Palin wants to make people think that she is some sort of Libertarian leaning, smaller government promoting Conservative and then she comes off praising the likes of John McCain (which couldn't be more nauseating)? Blech! When I watched the video of her introduction of McCain I think I threw up a little in my mouth. (here is a sample) Palin just made herself look more stupid, and who ever wrote her speech needs to be fired. I think she did better reading from her hand the last time.

McCain stands for everything opposite of what the Tea Party movement is all about. McCain has voted along with progressive Democrats on more occasions then he'd like to admit, on everything from amnesty for illegal aliens to Cap and Trade legislation to more restrictions on the American people. He's now trying to put on some sort of act like he is some real right wing Constitution thumping Tea Partier. What a load of phony crap.

McCain needs to be dumped in 2010, and Palin would do well to denounce him rather than stand there and sing his praises like some fawning fool.

The REAL Tea Party/ Liberty Movement candidate is JD Hayworth for US Senate in Arizona. and I hope J.D. Hayworth kicks McCain's butt. So far, he isn't doing too badly in the polls with just a 7 point difference between them.

Arizonans - should get a clue - John McCain has done nothing for you.
It's time for some new blood.

Honey Bee Die Off Continues

I posted about this problem back in 2007.
I didn't know till recently that things gave gotten worse for the bees.

This is not good news at all... and most likely will eventually help drive up food production and increase costs while also causing mass food shortages.

In an article by GARANCE BURKE and SETH BORENSTEIN (Associated Press)- it is reported that:
The mysterious 4-year-old crisis of disappearing honeybees is deepening. A quick federal survey indicates a heavy bee die-off this winter, while a new study shows honeybees' pollen and hives laden with pesticides.

Two federal agencies along with regulators in California and Canada are scrambling to figure out what is behind this relatively recent threat, ordering new research on pesticides used in fields and orchards. Federal courts are even weighing in this month, ruling that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency overlooked a requirement when allowing a pesticide on the market.

And on Thursday, chemists at a scientific conference in San Francisco will tackle the issue of chemicals and dwindling bees in response to the new study.

Scientists are concerned because of the vital role bees play in our food supply. About one-third of the human diet is from plants that require pollination from honeybees, which means everything from apples to zucchini.

Bees have been declining over decades from various causes. But in 2006 a new concern, "colony collapse disorder," was blamed for large, inexplicable die-offs. The disorder, which causes adult bees to abandon their hives and fly off to die, is likely a combination of many causes, including parasites, viruses, bacteria, poor nutrition and pesticides, experts say.

Too bad the bees didn't have Obamacare....

The Peaceful Left Wingers

Thanks and kudos go to Newsbusters on exposing the unmitigated hypocrisy of the Left Wing:
* It was not the fear of conservative violence that caused Ann Coulter's speech to be cancelled this week.
* It was a liberal who bit the finger off a man who disagreed with him on healthcare.
* It was Obama-loving Amy Bishop who took a gun to work and murdered co-workers.
* Joseph Stack flew his plane into the IRS building after writing an anti-conservative manifesto.
* It was liberals who destroyed AM radio towers outside of Seattle.
* It's liberals who burn down Hummer dealerships.
* It was progressive SEIU union thugs who beat a black conservative man who spoke his mind.
* It's doubtful that a conservative fired shots into a GOP campaign headquarters.
* In fact, Democrats have no monopoly on having their offices vandalized.
* Don't forget it was Obama's friend Bill Ayers who used terrorism as a tool for political change. SDS is still radical, with arrests in 2007 and the storming of the CATO Institute in July 2008.
* It was a liberal who was sentenced to two years for bringing bombs and riot shields to the Republican National Convention in 2008.
* It was a liberal who threatened to kill a government informant who infiltrated her Austin-based group that planned to bomb the RNC.
* It was liberals who assaulted police in Berkeley.
* It was liberals who intimidated and threw rocks through the windows of researchers.
* The two Black Panthers who stood outside polls intimidating people with nightsticks were probably not right-wingers.
* Every time the G20 gets together, it's not conservatives who destroy property and cause chaos.
Where was the condemnation then?

After the Left has claimed they were being threatened, now we hear that "attacks" are being made on GOP Members too ... others besides Rep. Cantor... and apparently there's been a hate filled voice message that was aimed at a GOP Congresswoman...so these attacks are now officially bipartisan. In the words of the Church Lady - "Isn't that special".

And it is clear that some of these alleged threats are just absurd.

But that doesn't stop the Left from using these alleged threats to fundraise.

The only reason these Democrats in Congress are whining about threats and violence is because they are trying desperately to discredit Conservatives, because they know that America is poised - ready and willing - to boot these Progressive Jackasses out of Washington in November.
(Quite frankly, they can take some Republican Jackasses with them as well ... hear that John McCain?)

They are more afraid of their Congressional seats then they are of coffins on their lawns or people saying nasty things to them on the telephone.

They are also trying to diffuse the attention on the healthcare bill as it gets debated in the Senate - they don't want too much attention, debate and coverage about that on the news.

It is laughable how they are trying to paint themselves as victims especially after how they have allowed themselves to get bribed for their votes and have brought Chicago thuggery to Congress. If anyone is the victim it is We The People.

And as the Obama propaganda machine tours the country trying/begging to convince America that higher taxes and more government intervention in their lives is a good thing - it's quite possible that his union thugs are also going to create a few disturbances along the way that they will no doubt conveniently blame on the Tea Party Movement.

We know their game.
And it might just inflame America that much more.

And perhaps that is what they are aiming for, because if they get people really riled up - just imagine how much fun the Progressives in the Obama administration will have instituting martial law in this country.

Congress Members Request Extra Security

Steny Hoyer is an idiot - we don't live in a Democracy - it's a Republic. Perhaps that is his problem - he doesn't understand our government. But I digress.

Ok - Let me start by saying that I don't personally condone violence and I also believe in defending oneself. I also believe in voicing one's opinion.

I think these Congressmen are a bunch of whiny wusses, and honestly it is very apparent that they are trying very hard to demonize their opposition, and I'd be willing to bet any of the "alleged attacks" were probably done by SEIU members to discredit the Tea Party Movement and Conservatives in general. That wouldn't surprise me at all. And even if there were some radicals in the anti-Obamacare, anti-Progressive Agenda bunch, the rest of us are NOT all guilty by association. I didn't throw a brick through the windows of Democrat offices. But you know what? Maybe this is a wake up call to those arrogant Socialist lawmakers.

But I also find it interesting that citizens can not engage in violence on politicians, but politicians can send in the police and IRS agents to arrest and harass and beat up citizens for not complying with their laws.

Did these Congressional Bozos honestly think that their actions of ignoring the will of the people wasn't going to produce some sort of blowback? and where were the protestations of these holier than thou Democrats when Left Wingers were threatening Conservatives and getting beat up by SEIU union thugs? Give me a break! What a bunch of whining hypocrites!

These people expect that after taking huge bribes to buy their votes on legislation most people didn't want, that there wasn't going to be some type of reaction?
This is such nonsense. The criminal behavior stems from elected representatives who flouted the will of their people and despite all appeals and protests in passing such an ignominious BILL, they did it anyway. Buy-offs, secret deals and now they come crying to the media about an angry population of citizens who are hassling them....Please,they've done enough damage. I suspect the majority of them didn't/couldn't read the bill but with emotional ideals and deaf ears, they carried on anyway oblivious to the will of the people. They should be indicted for their stupidity, arrogance and deceit, not protected. - "shuleba" commented on Daily Paul.

Finally, I think these politicians would all be wise to consider this from their beloved Ted's brother:
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable." - John F. Kennedy

The Obama Healthcare Public Relations Tour

"It is the absolute right of the State to supervise the formation of public opinion." - Dr. Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Minister of Propaganda

Obama will soon be kicking off his Public Relations Tour to try to convince the overwhelmingly disapproving American public that this healthcare legislation is good and noble. He and his tyrannical administration will be kicking off a massive propaganda campaign to sell you this unconstitutional piece of overreaching government legislation. It's sort of like the rapist who tries to convince you to "relax and enjoy it" - because you know - "you want it".

Obama and his cadre claim that the majority of Americans were "misinformed", so they want to give you their own brand of misinformation.
The campaign by Obama and Democrats will be backed by pro-health reform groups, and trade unions who are planning to spend millions on television advertising to win over a skeptical public. Gerald McEntee, leader of AFSCME, the biggest health workers' union in the US, told the Politico website: "We expect in three months the American people will understand the bill and they will be happy and satisfied with it."

The White House is banking on health reform being a winner once the public becomes aware of the details of the package, while the Republicans express equal confidence that it will be a vote-winner for them. The test will come in the Congressional mid-term elections in November.

I have news for President Obama - we already know the details.

- More IRS control and more government control
- Mandates to buy insurance coverage we don't need
- Higher premiums
- Higher healthcare costs
- Much Higher taxes
- Less available services - rationed services.
- A government that decides for YOU what health coverage and tests YOU should have
- A financially unsustainable entitlement program
- An unconstitutional piece of legislation
- A Trillion more in government spending
- This is just a stepping stone to a single payer system
- and much much more

Obama's going to trot out all the people, his human shields, like sick little kids and old people, to play on your emotions and guilt you into acceptance. Don't buy it. There is nothing noble about governmental tyranny and control.

He's going to bring out his "experts" - the usual biased union shills - to inject their own brand of skewed logic into the discussion, and if you follow the money you will probably see that they have all to gain from this legislation.

Obama plans to make you think that you this is somehow going to pay for itself, which it won't - and he will tell you how you won't ever have to worry again, and that government will take care of you.

Oh, he will be the grand snake oil salesman for the next couple of months.

Don't buy it.
This Socialist program is NOT good for our country.
Government controlled healthcare has been a failure in Britain and in Canada.

- It promotes government dependence.
- It destroys our freedom to choose.
- It taxes us more and steals our wealth and is the biggest wealth redistribution scheme going.
- It will put more money into the insurance companies pockets since they will have a nation of mandated purchasers.
- It will chase many health care providers out of the field and we will experience unprecedented provider shortages which will lead to eventual rationing.

Most importantly it gives more power to the government then it is allowed by the Constitution.

Do us a favor Mr. Obama:
Save the energy you will consume in Air Force One with your Socialist union friends, and all of OUR tax money that you plan to spend to spread this Socialist propagandist BS across this country, and just stay in Washington. We already know what a liar you are.

The American people are ANGRY.
You and your Congress HAVE VOTED AGAINST OUR WILL.
AND WE ARE GOING TO VOTE THE SOCIALIST TRAITORS OUT IN NOVEMBER!
Believe it.

But if you must traverse the country then maybe you can also answer this one very important and relevant question:

If your healthcare legislation was so wonderful, then why did you have to bribe so many legislators for their vote to pass it?

CT Residents - Write Or Petition Blumenthal To Sue The Federal Government

We need to start a letter writing and petition signing campaign in Connecticut aimed at Attorney General Richard Blumenthal to demand that he join in the lawsuits against unconstitutional Obamacare.

The Greenwich Times says:
Despite a reputation for being the quintessential activist attorney general who has sued Big Tobacco, Microsoft, defectors from the Big East athletic conference and the federal government over No Child Left Behind, Connecticut's Richard Blumenthal isn't about to mess with Obamacare.

The party favorite to replace fellow Democrat Chris Dodd in the Senate, Blumenthal put out a statement Monday hailing the passage of a $940 billion health care expansion bill late Sunday night by the U.S. House in a party line vote that has inflamed his counterparts in many states.

Virginia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Pennsylvania and Washington have all threatened to sue the federal government over the legislation, which their attorneys general said places an unconstitutional mandate on all Americans to buy health insurance.
The Federal Government cannot mandate that you buy health insurance! or any other product for that matter!
The powers given to them in the US Constitution says nothing about them controlling or legislating healthcare. Our state and its residents and its businesses will be financially harmed by this legislation.

Blumenthal's political party affiliation should have NO bearing whatsoever in pursuing the interests of the State of Connecticut and its Rights guaranteed to it by the Tenth Amendment! If Blumenthal's political party affiliation is interfering with carrying out his duties to protect our State's Rights then he should be impeached.
The Attorney General shall have general supervision over all legal matters in which the state is an interested party
Right now we do have a Tenth Amendment Resolution (Known by its official number, House Joint Resolution No. 65) in the CT Legislature - but it's gone nowhere since the public hearing on March 17th in the GAE Committee. Shame on them! CT citizens should be contacting the CT Legislature to push for this resolution's passage - as well as real legislation to nullify unconstitutional Federal law; which, so far, the Government Administrations and Elections Committee (GAE) has declined to raise. Again, shame on them!

Demand that Blumenthal join the lawsuits put forth by other states!
Write/Call him today!

The IRS - Enforcers Of Obamacare

(Because your money is "Theirs")

As if government controlled healthcare isn't enough - the Democrat Socialists in the House and Senate will have their IRS Brownshirts be the enforcers of whether or not you are complying with the new healthcare mandates/orders!

Among the new powers the IRS would assume: The authority to confiscate tax refunds, to impose fines of over $2,200 per taxpayer, and to verify whether taxpayers' health insurance coverage is "acceptable."

And as if the IRS doesn't have enough goons to break down your door and confiscate stuff, the agency might have to hire as many as 16,500 additional auditors, agents, and other employees in order to administer this abominable healthcare program.

Wow - doesn't that make you feel healthier already?

Essentially the IRS will be responsible for "tracking the monthly health insurance status of roughly 300 million Americans."

- IRS agents would be tasked with determining whether Americans had obtained the insurance coverage required under the individual mandate.
- Individuals could be fined $2,250 or 2 percent of income, whichever is greater, if you are unable to prove you have "minimum essential coverage."
- The IRS would be empowered to confiscate tax refunds if necessary.
- Audits probably would increase as a result of the legislation's new requirements.
- The budget for IRS operations will balloon by $10 billion in the next decade in order to administrate the new program.
- Nearly half of the new individual mandate taxes will be paid "by Americans earning less than 300 percent of poverty, $66150 for a family of four.

So when Obama makes his tour around the country to tell everyone how wonderful this legislation is, and how this isn't isn't a government takeover of healthcare - or that the government's role is not expanded - I hope many of you out there scream out to him "YOU LIE!"

Happy Birthday Peter Schiff - Money Bomb Today!

Tuesday, March 23rd, is - Peter Schiff's - birthday.

He turns 47 this year!

His brother Andrew created an online birthday card for Peter's supporters to sign and wish him well. Peter enjoys hearing from his supporters, and we all know that he will be excited to read each and every comment on his card.

After you sign the birthday card, you will have the opportunity to make a contribution to Peter's campaign. I hope you'll consider donating $47, $470 or even $4,700 to help him mark Tuesday's milestone and bring him one step closer to the U.S. Senate.

Peter is the most level-headed and forward thinking individual in this CT Senate race.

Peter will NOT cave to the special interests that run Washington or trade his vote in exchange for entry into the insiders' club. Peter is not a politician by any means; he is a patriot. He is running because he has the skills necessary to fix America's most pressing problem - the economy.

Please join me in wishing Peter a happy birthday, and let's help send him to Washington with a donation now and your vote this November.

States Ready To Sue Regarding Obamacare

36 States have pending Legislation Opposing Health Reforms

South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster says he and Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum are ready to file a federal lawsuit if health care reform legislation passes.

A spokesman for Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II (R) said that Virginia will file suit against the federal government if the Democratic health care reform bill is approved by the U.S. Congress.

Idaho took the lead in a growing, nationwide fight against health care overhaul Wednesday when its governor became the first to sign a measure requiring the state attorney general to sue the federal government if residents are forced to buy health insurance.

Vermont weighs in too.

Good post here.

Rep. Bart Stupak - In The End He Was Bought

Pro-Life? Not if it means $726,409 FOR AIRPORTS IN ALPENA, DELTA AND CHIPPEWA COUNTIES!

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced three airports in northern Michigan have received grants totaling $726,409 for airport maintenance and improvements. The funding was provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration.

“This federal funding will help these airports better provide critical services to communities in northern Michigan,” Stupak said. “I am pleased the FAA has made this investment in our local airports and the individuals and businesses they serve.”

Alpena County Regional Airport received a grant of $85,500 to acquire friction measuring equipment, specifically a decelermeter and tow vehicle, to replace equipment that has worn out.

Delta County Airport in Escanaba received a grant of $179,209 to install a 10 foot perimeter fence to enhance security and prevent wildlife from entering the airport.

The Chippewa County International Airport near Sault Ste. Marie received a grant of $461,700 to install lighted signs on Runway 16/34 and make repairs to the pavement to meet marking requirements and maintain structural integrity.

This funding is provided to the FAA through the regular federal appropriations process and is awarded through competitive grants.

It only proves one thing - these Congressmen all have a price.
Nevermind their oath of office or their constituents.

And by the way - regarding Executive Orders - Executive Orders (EOs) are legally binding orders given by the President, acting as the head of the Executive Branch, to Federal Administrative Agencies. Executive Orders are generally used to direct federal agencies and officials in their execution of congressionally established laws or policies. However, in many instances they have been used to guide agencies in directions contrary to congressional intent.

The U.S. Constitution declares that the legislative branch writes the laws of the land. And the law of the land supersedes any executive action. No executive order or regulatory policy can override a statutory mandate. Period.

Someone ought to explain that to Rep. Stupak and his "Pro-Lifers"
Perhaps people should now consider Benishek for Congress!

The taxpayers got off cheap with Rep. Dennis Kucinich; he only needed a ride on Air-Force One.

Screenagers

I half laughed when I heard this new terminology...

Screenagers are teenagers hooked on their mobile devices.
Apparently Britain now deems this problem as an addiction and has launched rehabilitation programs to deal with it.
'Mental health services need to adapt quickly to the changing worlds that young people inhabit, and understand just how seriously their lives can be impaired by unregulated time online, on-screen or in-game,' he said.

'We have found that many of the existing services fail to recognise the complexity of these situations, borrowing from older models of addiction and substance misuse to very limited effect.

'This is why Capio Nightingale Hospital has launched the first Young Person Technology Addiction Service, which we hope will address the underlying causes of this addiction to transform screenagers back into teenagers.'

The treatment aims to increase off-screen social activities and improve the person's confidence in face-to-face situations, the lack of which may have made them more susceptible to technology addiction.

It also encourages them to think about their relationship with their phone, computer games or social networking websites like Facebook and teaches them skills to help them to switch off.
Unfortunately, the Brits seem to think everything is a mental disorder.
They are big on "treatment".

I will agree though that there is a price that comes with technology.
Perhaps that price is how it has created dependency (people can't live without their devices) and a slavish mentality (always have to respond to ring tones/buzzes or Tweets) and loss of face to face social skills. But really if you think about it, our own parents used to complain about how much time we sat and talked on the land line telephones and watched TV, just as their parents complained about how much time was spent by our parents going out to the movies, reading comic books, or being glued to AM/FM radios!

Cell phone and laptop technology is where communication is for kids and 20-30 somethings right now. Facebook, Twitter, Skype, etc. .... are means for them to keep in touch 24/7.
Wii's, IPods, and online gaming have become their entertainment.

What I find fascinating is that these technologies were developed and marketed and have become hugely successful and now some people are complaining about their overuse.
What do they expect?
They think these kids are going to spend some time outside gardening? or playing Scrabble? or reading a book?

Kids today are living in a totally different world then when their parents were teenagers. They have learned from a very young age (after being plopped in front of TV screens by their parents) to value being entertained by electronic equipment, as well as how to take full advantage of the technology of their time. Who can blame them?

Face it - the 40 to 50 something crowd who have teenagers have largely created this monster, especially as they have tried to buy favor with their children by purchasing gadgets for them early on. Honestly, does a 10 year old need a cellphone? or another XBox or Wii?

Sure, I agree that devices are overused - I have even seen teens in a group texting others and at times ignoring the others they are physically with. There is an element of rudeness I find has developed with kids that they don't seem to comprehend, and I find it particularly annoying to see teens texting or playing mobile phone games when sitting at a dinner table with their family (presumably) in a restaurant.... and its even more annoying that the parents don't seem to care.

We have a rule in our family that you may NOT use the cell phone at the table, or when dining out. In fact, we don't answer the land line if it rings and we are eating. That's what message machines are for.

Kids haven't been taught much in the way of limits.
Whose fault is that?

Perhaps it's too late for parents to sit down and have a discussion about technology use with their kids - or maybe they can just text them.

And... Peter Schiff On Moody's US Ratings

The stock market is up because our money is inflating (been to the supermarket lately?) and so is the value of stocks.

You have to look at the value of the stock market in terms of gold.

Check out this website.

The Dow/Gold Ratio chart shows the ratio of the price of the Dow to the price of gold. Another way to look at it is the number of ounces of gold it takes to buy one share of the Dow. For example, with the Dow at 10,000 and gold at 500, it requires 20 ounces of gold to buy one share of the Dow, so the ratio is 20. The reason for using gold is that gold is the most unbiased form of money in existence. Fake government paper money comes and goes, but gold has been money for thousands of years. It is the ultimate store of wealth.

Peter Schiff on Paul Krugman And China

Great analysis. (as usual)

And You Thought Greece Was The Only Insolvent Government

Warning.... this is NOT an uplifting post.

New Jersey Road Sign

How about state pension funds right here at home?

Nevermind bankrupt California.
Or the wasteland of Michigan (I hear Detroit is reverting to farmland).

But take for example, the State of New Jersey.

New Jersey is so strapped for money that they are planning on skipping a $3 Billion dollar pension payment! I am certain this is going to make many New Jersey retirees very concerned.

Read about it here.

Oh man, these States, and we the taxpayers, are so very screwed.
Thanks to years of runaway spending and an entitlement mentality, the States are going broke.
Thanks to the public sector that has grown out of control with bloated budgets that they are unwilling to relinquish.
This is the result of more agencies, more task forces, more commissions, more pensions and benefits and more waste....more, more, more.
And who do you think will bail these States out?

The Federal government and their printing presses of course.

And....We are surely on the road to more financial instability and when you look at the oncoming default tsunami that will hit foreign shores before too long ... Greece is just the beginning.

Well, all I can say is you better hope you are doing something to protect yourself and your assets while there is still time.
I don't think anyone wants to be holding Federal Reserve Notes when things start to go South.

That's not doom and gloom... that is financial reality.
One only has to look at the unsustainability of the course these governments have set.
One only has to see history repeating itself.
Just look at Wiemar and Zimbabwe...
Look at how they got to financial ruin.

Double digit inflation (and very possibly, hyperinflation) is on the way baby.

Another Reason To Homeschool Your Child

I am sure you have already seen this. If you haven't, then please take a moment and check it out, but you might want to pop some Blood Pressure meds first.

Teachers bullying little kids and calling them Losers?
and taking points off to boot?

Honestly - and this is called a teaching strategy?
And administrators support this kind of teacher?

Wow.
Really?

Whatever happened to inspiring and encouraging kids?
Whatever happened to teaching kindness and setting an example of civility?
Whatever happened to firing moronic teachers such as this one?

Yup - it's certainly a good reason to seriously consider homeschooling.... because teachers like that are out there, and probably "teach" in a government school near you.

The Real Reason Obama Is Postponing Indonesia Trip

Why has Obama decided to postpone his trip to Indonesia?

Maybe it's NOT because he is lobbying hard for healthcare here at home.
Maybe it's because of the protests against him in Indonesia!

Thousands of followers of a conservative Islamic group held peaceful demonstrations Sunday in several Indonesian cities against the planned visit of President Barack Obama.

Witnesses and police said members of the Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir protested in East Java's provincial capital of Surabaya, South Sulawesi's capital of Makassar and three other cities. The group, an international network which believes Muslims should unite in a single global state governed by Islamic law, urged the Indonesian government to reject the American leader's trip, scheduled for late March.

"We know Obama spent his childhood in Indonesia, but as president his policy contradicts the people's interests in Indonesia," protest organizer Nasrudin said in Makassar.

Hundreds of police monitored the protests, which drew around 2,000 people outside the U.S. Consulate in Surabaya and another 2,000 in the streets of Makassar. No violence was reported. Dozens of demonstrators also rallied in the Java city of Yogyakarta, the West Kalimantan town of Pontianak and the eastern town of Mataram.

Men and women wearing black veils held up yellow banners reading "Reject the visit of Obama" as they marched in the streets of the two larger cities.

"He doesn't work for a peaceful world ... on the contrary, Obama is the same as George Bush, who has destroyed the Muslim world in Iraq and Afghanistan. Therefore we have to reject the visit of Obama to Indonesia," said Nasrudin, who, like many Indonesians, uses only one name.

Watch the Reuters video here.

Guess you can call it an Indonesian Ginger Tea party ... LOL.

The Coffee Party - A Liberal Bust

They say, "Imitation is the highest from of flattery."
I'd say that is quite true in this case.

In opposition to the Tea Party movement, and in an effort to gain similar support (although they won't) - Liberals have decided to launch the Coffee Party movement - complete with "Bill the Dog Catcher".

Don't be fooled by these posers.

They claim to be against "obstructionism" and want "diversity".

They want you to feel comfortable with "Change".

They want "co-operation".

Blah, Blah, Blah.

To this woman in the video:

I want to see obstructionism when there are folks in government who want to tear down our Republic and replace it with a Progressive Socialist government.

I want to see obstructionism when there are folks in government who want nationalize business and industry and redistribute wealth.

I want to see obstructionism when the Rule of Law is being ignored - and when there are traitors ignoring their oath of office.

I want to see obstructionism when the Federal Government is overstepping its bounds and bribing states and law makers.

I want to see obstructionism when lawmakers are selling their votes, or voting merely for their own personal gain.

I will NOT tolerate that.
I will NOT go along to get along if it means compromising my values and ideals, especially if it means dismantling everything our Founders put into place.
I will NOT go along to get along if it means sacrificing my LIBERTY!
I will NOT allow our Constitution to be ignored, nor will I allow an elite class of Liberals, or Conservatives for that matter, to dictate to We The People.

I DEMAND that the government protect my rights, stay out of my home, my bedroom and my business.

I DEMAND that our government follow fiscal prudence instead of marching us to insolvency and instability.

The Coffee Party is merely another foolish Liberal attempt to mock and demean the Liberty Movement in this country - the very same Liberty movement which is catching on in the Nanny State of Britain.

The Coffee Party will fail because it is a fabrication by Obama supporters, and not by people who truly want to Restore the Republic and Protect Our Constitutional Rights.

The Coffee Party will fail just like Liberal Radio (Air America) .

There were supposed to be Coffee Party rallies Sunday, and truly those gatherings were the complete opposite of Tea Parties... in comparison, barely anyone showed up.

CT Tenth Amendment Update

This from CT Patriot Alliance and CT Grassroots Alliance:

A Public Hearing on the Tenth Amendment Resolution Will Be Held

Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.

Room 2B at the Legislative Office Building

The Government Administration and Elections Committee has posted its agenda for its public hearing to be held on March 17, 2010. The Tenth Amendment Resolution is on the agenda to be heard at that time.

The Tenth Amendment Resolution is known by its official number, House Joint Resolution No. 65. You can find the agenda for the March 17, 2010 public hearing at the state’s website:
http://www.cga.ct.gov/2010/GAEdata/pha/2010PHA00317-R001000GAE-PHA.htm

You can find the text of the Tenth Amendment resolution, House Joint Resolution No. 65, also at the state’s website:
http://www.cga.ct.gov/2010/TOB/h/pdf/2010HJ-00065-R00-HB.pdf

Please spread the word and ask all who can to attend this important public hearing. This is your opportunity to tell your legislators your opinion about whether or not the state should reassert the rights it has under the Tenth Amendment to tell the federal government that it has overstepped its bounds any time that it does overstep its bounds. We need the legislators to know how you feel about this issue.

The Connecticut Grassroots Alliance, supported by the ranking members of the Government Administration and Elections Committee, Senator Michael McLachlan and Rep. John Hetherington, Senator Toni Boucher, and many others, originally asked the Committee to raise not only the resolution, but also two other bills that would have put into place a method by which the legislature could review any federal law to determine its legality. The Committee decided to raise only the resolution and did not raise the other bills. It would be appropriate at this public hearing also to express your opinion about the Committee’s action not only in raising the resolution, but also in denying those two bills.*** Keep in mind, however, that the public hearing is on the resolution, and we are thankful that the Committee agreed, at least, to raise that measure for a public hearing.

For information about testifying at a public hearing, you also can go to the state’s website:
http://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/content/yourvoice.asp

If you prepare written testimony, the Committee clerks will need about forty copies but they also will scan in the testimony so that it will appear on the state’s website and in the archives for all to see. This can be important later on to researchers, lawyers, and judges trying to determine the meaning of the law, should it become law.

It would also be wise for individuals to contact their own local State Senators and State Representatives to attend the Public Hearing on the Tenth Amendment Resolution on Wednesday, March 17 at 10:00 am (Room 2B of the Legislative Office Building) to speak out in favor of passage of the Resolution. The more legislators that we can get to speak out in favor of it, the better. Not only will we be educating them about the issue, but by their attendance, we will be putting more emphasis behind the effort to get the measure adopted. You can find out who your legislator is by going to: http://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/menu/CGAFindLeg.asp

Please plan to be at the Public Hearing at least an hour before the start of the hearing. You will need to provide your written testimony to the clerk of the Government Administration and Elections Committee and sign up to testify ahead of time. You may also need to allow time to find a parking space if the Legislative Office Building Garage is full. Be prepared to wait a long time to testify, as well. Legislators and state agency heads testify during the first hour of the public hearing, and there are other bills that people will be testifying about that are on the agenda. Some of those bills may be controversial and have many people signed up to testify about them as well.

The next step in the process after the public hearing is for the Committee to vote on the resolution. That’s called approving a Joint Favorable, or JF, resolution on the proposal. The JF deadline is March 26, 2010. We will let you know when more information becomes available about the meeting at which such a vote may be taken.

*** The three versions originally proposed are as follows:

Version A:

RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING CONGRESS TO ABIDE BY THE TENTH AMENDMENT:

Resolved by this Assembly:
That the Connecticut General Assembly calls on the Congress
and the President of the United States to abide by the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution; specifically:

THAT the people, and by their authority, the General Assembly of the State of Connecticut retain sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States;

THAT on numerous occasions, the federal government has gone beyond the scope of their enumerated powers, in effect violating the Constitution, and such violations must cease; and further

RESOLVED: THAT the federal government must, in the future, exercise only those powers delegated to the United States by the Constitution, and that which is necessary and proper in advancing those enumerated powers, with all other power, authority and sovereignty being reserved to the people.

Version B:

NEW Section 1. Pursuant to the Tenth Amendment of the United States Constitution, the State of Connecticut and its General Assembly retain sovereignty over all powers and duties not enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States .
Section 2. Upon the written request of any member of the General Assembly, the committee having cognizance over matters pertaining to government administration and elections shall review any statute, regulation or directive promulgated by any branch of the federal government to ensure that the federal government has the authority to issue such statute, regulation or directive. Following such review, the committee shall recommend to the General Assembly its determination as to the legality of the statute, regulation or directive.
Section 3. Upon the recommendation of the government administration and elections committee, the general assembly shall vote to memorialize Congress as to the findings of the committee regarding the legality of the statute, regulation or directive.

Version C:

The Committee raised Version A and it is now known as House Joint Resolution No. 65. The Committee refused to raise Versions B and C at all.

US Government Proposes National Education Standards

Here comes yet another national power grab.

The US Government has created proposed education standards, in cooperation with "experts" who were appointed by the nation's governors and school superintendents. These standards spell out in detail what concepts and skills students should learn in every grade from K through 12 and they are supposed to replace State guidelines... that is if the State accepts yet another bribe from the Federal government. Yes, these new standards are being tied to the new Federal program "Race to the Top" which is a competition of sorts for school reform grants under the President's stimulus plan. States must approve these proposed standards in order to be able to apply for more than $4 billion in stimulus funds being offered under Race to the Top.

Of course a national curriculum will impact schools and taxpayers because new curricula, textbooks, tests, and teacher training will now have to be developed if these standards are adopted across the board. That'$ going to be expen$ive.

The New York Times report says this:
Under the proposed standards for English, for example, fifth graders would be expected to explain the differences between drama and prose stories, and to identify elements of drama like characters, dialogue and stage directions. Seventh graders would study, among other math concepts, proportional relationships, operations with rational numbers and solutions for linear equations.
Additionally under such proposed national education standards kindergartners would be expected to count by tens and eighth-graders to explain the Pythagorean theorem. Some educators are already concerned that the mathematics proposed for kindergarten is too rigorous. Some parts of the proposed standards do not make any sense at all. There is lots more and you should read through the Common Core State Standards Initiative for yourself; after all, you will end up paying for it if your state participates or not.

So yet again the Federal government is bribing the states to accept the entire plan and states will be co-opting their rights in order to get Federal money. Just like "No Child Left Behind", States are going to jump through some arbitrary hoops in the hopes of getting back money that they/we never should have sent to Washington to begin with! What a racket they are running.

Have these State legislatures and State Boards of Education learned NOTHING?
Do they not understand that with these proposals that they will endure increased regulation and scrutiny? They are will be losing their state sovereignty and ability to make their own decisions regarding education in their state.

Some states like Alaska and Texas are the only states that have wisely declined to participate in the standards-writing effort. In keeping his state out, Gov. Rick Perry argued that only Texans should decide what children in Texas should learn. Thank goodness there is one outspoken Governor who understands the role of the Federal government and the US Constitution vis-a-vis his own State government. Class, can you say "Tenth Amendment"?

The Hartford Courant reported:
The proposal will now be open for a month long comment period and then go to each state board of education for a vote by Aug. 1. If approved, the new standards could take as many as four years or more to be put into practice.

The group that developed the set of "common core" standards stopped short of calling the plan a national standard, a term that could alienate places that treasure local or state control over school systems, particularly New England. Texas already has opted out of the plan for that reason.

The idea that the plan is voluntary and developed by the states —not the federal government — is seen as an incentive to get the states to move forward.
It seems that school administrators, such as school superintendents and people at the State Board of Education, actually like the Federal proposals - I guess it takes the thinking and planning away from them - so they just have to do what the government tells them to do instead of having to do any work themselves and they really don't have to think about what really makes sense for the children of their own State. They are all "hepped up" on global competition and think this is going to make us better in worldwide standing. Keep dreaming. We all know it's another Federal program filled with a lot of nonsense.

I don't think these administrators have taken a serious look at what they are already teaching and the twaddle that is being presented as "education" in their own school's curriculum. Moreover, if they weren't so enamored with every newfangled study that passes as education research, maybe we'd have an education system that wasn't so broken. Over the years who hasn't seen the dismantling of programs that really work with replacement programs that are just plain wasteful and stupid? You know - like when they dumped phonics for whole language and created a whole generation of kids who cannot read or write.

These administrative ivory tower morons continually talk about local standards being so "20th century" as if the garbage they have delivered thus far to replace what actually worked years ago, has been so successful. Honestly, how many of you out there have been to a local store where the teenager at the register can barely make change?

If they truly want to "raise the bar higher overall", then they ought to return to a more classical education and have kids read decent literature instead of the inane and depressing reading selections they have shoved down kids' throats. How about learning some real mathematics skills instead of relying on calculators and round about ways of deriving answers? (read this)

The Teachers Unions won't like this - because it's going to make the teachers work harder and be mandated to teach to a national curriculum - probably with no room for creativity or even common sense.

The whole National Standards thing is just a way to increase the need for more Federal and State education dollars - and to increase Federal power over the States. This won't help kids achieve anything at all, and a good way to predict this is to look at the Federal track record. No Child Left Behind is a stunning example. There has been no real improvement at all, and has even though billions in education funding has been thrown around, we still have failing schools with kids and parents who have been left with nothing but empty promises. To top it off, they haven't even been decent opportunities and are trapped in a broken system. This was supposed to free urban kids from their crappy schools. For the most part it hasn't.

Thank goodness we have had a string of Charter schools set up by disgusted parents and educators which demand excellence and have gone back to the basics. Thank goodness we have had more parents pull their kids out of failing government schools in order to homeschool their kids.

The only race I see with "Race To The Top" and the National Standards is a race to see what States and what schools can get more tax dollars to pay higher salaries to already overpaid administrators who can administer another Federal program that is doomed to fail.

Good luck with that.

... Then of course, in CT, there is Senate Candidate Linda "I pretend to want smaller government" McMahon on the State Board of Education voting to pursue this Federal government intrusion for our State. She's right up there with self-proclaimed progressives who are also "fighting for Federal dollars" and more government intrusion.

20% Unemployment in California

Unemployment tops 20% in eight California counties - that means more than 1 in 5 people were out of work. Comparably, the national unemployment rate in January was 9.7%, although some economists claim that it is much higher since the statistics don't take into account many other people who are unemployed and not collecting unemployment benefits, or who are underemployed and doing part-time work just to get by.

Here are the eight counties in California where unemployment is more than 20%. (Numbers are not seasonally adjusted).

* Colusa: 27.4%
* Imperial: 27.3%
* Merced: 21.7%
* Plumas: 22.3%
* San Benito: 21.1%
* Sutter: 21%
* Trinity: 25.8%
* Yuba: 20.4%

The unemployment rate for the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metro area reached 15% in January and unemployment in Orange County reached 10.1%, up from 9.1% in December.

The state's jobless rate of 12.5% in January was its worst on record and fifth-highest in the nation. It was 12.3% in December.

California was one of five states, along with Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, that reached their highest unemployment rates since the government began keeping track in 1976, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Things don't look like they will be improving anytime soon either.

Blumenthal Grandstanding Says Peter Schiff

CT Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, just filed a lawsuit against Moody's Investors Service and Standard & Poor's. Blumenthal alleges that "they misled investors about the soundness of certain types of investments and unfairly reaped hundreds of millions of dollars in revenues." Blumenthal said that they lied.

How nice.

And what was he waiting for to initiate this lawsuit?
Did he like, finally wake up from some AG coma?
Perhaps he was waiting for a chance to grandstand and grab some headlines during his campaign, and actually make it look like he is doing something useful as CT's AG.

Blumenthal sued Moody's, S&P and Fitch Inc., in July 2009 accusing them of illegally giving municipalities lower credit ratings than they gave to similarly performing corporations. He claimed there was a "dual rating system" that ended up costing taxpayers millions of dollars in unnecessary bond insurance and higher interest payments. Not much has happened with that pending lawsuit. Which is par for the course as our illustrious AG usually initiates lawsuits to get front page news and then you never hear anything about it again.

But I digress....

You know, Schiff made a speech to mortgage bankers back in 2006 where he warned attendees of the Western Regional Mortgage Bankers Convention about how the ratings agencies "were assigning investment grade ratings to securities [that] would become worthless." He has been saying it for years.

Schiff put out a statement today about Blumenthal's lawsuit.
"It's too late. Why did Blumenthal wait until now to file this lawsuit?

Because he's running for the U.S. Senate and sees an opportunity for headlines.

This political grandstanding is everything that's wrong with politicians. If he really wanted to help the Connecticut taxpayers, he would have sued these ratings companies years ago and had the foresight to prevent the housing collapse.

Where was Blumenthal back then when such lawsuits might have actually helped avert the crisis?

Just like all the other career politicians, either Blumenthal did not want to disrupt the housing gravy train that temporarily enriched Wall Street and Main Street, or he did not know enough about economics or finance to understand the problem."

Again, Peter Schiff is spot on in his assessment.
He is someone we need representing CT in Washington.
And if we send him to Washington, Washington will NEVER be the same!

Papers Please....Obama Administration Re-Visiting National ID

Like a National ID card is going to make us safer?
Give me a flipping break.

Washington lawmakers and their agencies haven't been enforcing immigration law for years!

Why haven't they been enforcing illegal immigration laws in the past decade? Because of the 2010 Census that's why. Congressmen WANT to have illegal immigration in order to save their Congressional seats that will be based on the 2010 Census count!!!
Do you not get this?
Look at where the sanctuary cities are!!!
Look whose congressional seats they are protecting.

If it weren't for illegal aliens flooding into urban areas (particularly in the Northeast), then population in many of those areas would be declining even more. There would be bigger losses of Congressional seats.

Also illegal aliens are increasing school and social service budgets that these Congressmen help to fund and staff.

This National ID card is ONLY for purposes of tracking everyone and controlling the people in this country, especially if they are chipped and easily scanned.

Sure you use a Social Security Card - but is NOT supposed to be used as identification. Non-citizens have Social Security cards as they are issued to people who have temporary work authorization in the U.S.

Sure you have a Drivers License - but that is only a permit to show that you passed a test and have the proper skills to drive. It too, is NOT supposed to be used for identification, or to get a job, and it certainly should not have biometric information on it. Non-citizens can get drivers licenses.

The Real ID Act is a travesty. It should never have been passed and many states have already rejected it. Real ID needs to be stopped!

Full Body scanners at airports.
Real ID papers.
E-Verify at your employers office.
Cameras in the streets.
Babies having to give hospitals DNA samples.

Have you woken up yet?

Here is where we are headed:

This standardized "Papers Please" mentality is not going to stop illegal immigration and it isn't going to stop terrorism. It is a false security measure that will in the end lead to the further erosion of civil liberties at a huge cost to the taxpayer. This is NOT the Hallmark of a Free Nation!

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." - James Madison

"Dictatorships start wars because they need external enemies to exert internal control over their own people." - Richard Perle

"Those who are willing to trade freedom for security deserve neither freedom nor security." - Benjamin Franklin

Will YOU reject being tagged like inventory, and questioned at every turn?
How much do you value your privacy and your Liberty?

Found: Susan Bysiewicz's Secret Diary

This is both hysterical and such an embarrassment too - and sort of like a scene out of the movie "Mean Girls" when the "Burn Book" was found and exposed, and everyone got to see what Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams the other girls were saying in this book about other people in school. Some pages were definitely not appreciated.... and O.K. Susie B's comments weren't quite as mean....

"Bysiewicz's List", a taxpayer funded database no less, of 36,000 names with special notations by people's names and even notations regarding ethnicity (straight from the Democrat colorblind and ethnic blind diverse world), makes for interesting and somewhat amusing reading. Susie B calls it an "essential" resource for serving the public. That list is now under investigation by the Attorney General's office. There are many questions, one of which is whether or not this taxpayer funded database had notations that were in essence, being used for political purposes by the Secretary of State.

The Courant reports:
"...it contains thousands of what are labeled "special notes" on people's political connections and personal characteristics. It even has a category headed "Ethnicity," which identifies 2,431 people as either Polish, Greek, African American, Hispanic, Native American or Jewish.
.....
•It says Kevin Donohue of Columbia is "Bill Curry's Cousin; Influenced by Edith Prague; Works in Windham." Curry is a former Democratic state comptroller who ran unsuccessfully for governor. Prague, a Democratic state senator from Columbia, when told of the notation Tuesday said, "That's hysterical."

•It contains this description of a now-dead Democrat who held municipal office in the Naugatuck River Valley: "White beard; Former teacher; Likes attention ..."

•It says former New Canaan Councilwoman Ruth Smithers "loves George Jepsen." Jepsen is now one of Bysiewicz's opponents for the Democratic nomination for attorney general — an office being vacated by Blumenthal, who is running for U.S. Senate.

•It says that a child of one politician "has issues" — an apparent reference to problems with the law. It mentions a rabbi who "Doesn't shake hands he bows" and "likes Blumenthal." It says a town selectman is a "Retired Teamster" and "has had a kidney transplant."

•It describes James J. Giulietti, a North Haven lawyer, as "influenced by Chris Duby; friend of Ganim; former town chair; 2003: Running for P & Z." A decade ago, Christopher Duby was chief of staff to Democratic Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim, who later went to prison.

On Tuesday, Duby, now a lawyer in North Haven who rents office space from Giulietti, said he didn't know how such information would get into Bysiewicz's database. He said it sounded outdated and somewhat inaccurate; for example, he laughed at the idea that he could influence "one of the hardest-headed guys I've ever met." Duby said "Friend of Ganim" must apply to him, not Giulietti, who couldn't be reached.

Such subjective and superfluous-sounding entries abound in the database, with more than 100 of them saying who is whose friend in politics, or who, in one case, "likes to go door-to-door" in campaigning.

It is the kind of information politicians keep to help them prepare for visits with local politicians to avoid saying the wrong thing and to make a good impression. Such local politicos' support is sought by candidates such as Bysiewicz when seeking a statewide nomination. The locals often are convention delegates, and the database noted that many of them had actually served in that political role.

Some of the database's personal notations drew mixed reactions when The Courant contacted the people who were referred to.

One person called Bysiewicz to ask that a notation be removed, and she complied.

Then there was Rocky Hill Democratic Town Committeewoman Lois Morton, who, according to Bysiewicz's database, "wears hats a lot." ... She acknowledged Monday that she long has worn "classy hats," although not so much anymore. She added: "I don't know why that was in" the database. "That's funny," she said. "My claim to fame is I wear a hat."

Active Democrat James Throwe of South Windsor, a lawyer and a longtime general in the National Guard, was listed as having had "treatment for a pre-cancerous condition." Throwe said Monday that his continual bouts with skin cancer are not a secret; the former lifeguard has spoken in news reports of the dangers of exposure to sun. "I'm not offended, but I'm just curious about what that has to do with the database she keeps," he said. "I don't see it."

... The 36,000-name database contains about 9,900 e-mail addresses.

... In her written response to Courant questions about the database, Bysiewicz said Tuesday, "The collection of specific information from constituents is important and relevant when assisting the thousands of people who ask me for help on a yearly basis." She said many constituent contacts are "made when our agency does outreach with community groups and organizations. ... References to personal situations also remind me about someone's health or other issues when I see or speak to that person."

"This data is collected by me personally or my staff, and often provided by the constituents themselves. It is then entered by staff into the database," she said.

Now let's see, do you suppose the time she took to compose and notate this list counts towards her time in practicing law?

Is this the type of record keeping antics you'd like to see in the Attorney General's Office if she "heaven forbid" gets elected? This woman shouldn't even get close to any other government office with the way in which she has tagged and classified constituents along with how she has manipulated the intent of statute to claim she is qualified to be CT's next Attorney General.

If Susan Bysiewicz had an ounce of integrity she would abandon this quest for office and just retire already.

I can think of many other candidates who would be a better Attorney General as well as a better Secretary of State.

And you can notate that.
