It is just amazing and repulsive to me that a memorial service - an act of remembrance and solemnity - was turned into a political event for team Obama. When was the last time you attended a memorial and was given a Tee-shirt? or other SWAG? Honestly, do these people have no decency?
Yeah, yeah, yeah... it was all done in the name of "healing"... blah blah blah.
But really, memorials should not be "pep rallies" complete with tacky Tee shirts bearing some catchy slogan.
Team Obama even had the temerity to recycle "Yes We Can" into "Together We Thrive".
Pretty appalling if you ask me.
Whoever had this idea of giving a memorial service the ambiance of a political campaign rally really has little understanding of the purpose of memorials. This was so obviously an Obama kick-off event for 2012 complete with a new slogan featuring "unity". Unfortunately the man "speaking from the heart" could not even do so without reading from a carefully prepared speech.
Tacking on this so-called message of a "call to civility" was also a bit much, especially since the person delivering that message has done his share of vicious speak against his opponents. He has been the most divisive and polarizing president as far as I can remember.
And so now, it is apparent that any speech against the Obama administration will be sure to be labeled "un-civil discourse" or "against progress and unity" or "inflammatory". The real irony in all of that is that when the Congress opened its session with a reading of the Constitution, it was Rep. Gabrielle Giffords who read the First amendment.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."Ah yes, "Together We Thrive, Tucson and America" in Blue and White colors no less... And with all this thriving with Arizona - do you think the Obama administration will drop legal proceedings against that state? I mean, we are all supposed to be working together towards common goals now - so do you think all the boycotts against Arizona will be dropped in the name of respect and civility?
I doubt it.
Maybe this is a new way to mourn and be uplifting.
When Aunt Matilda kicks the bucket we should order Tee Shirts and hats that say, "Auntie M Rocked - Let's All Get Along"... and make sure no one says anything bad about her ... ever.
UPDATE: Obama Busted! "Together We Thrive" was used in Obama's 2008 campaign for president.
