Grow A Garden

2008 Garden

I saw this wonderful article and just had to share.

5 Reasons EVERYONE Should Have a Garden
Self-sufficiency

This is the reason many people have a garden and it certainly is a good one. With fuel prices rising, and crop problems around the world, being able to produce food in your own backyard is one of the best ways to supplement your food supply.
Not only will you be more self-sufficient in one area, but the resources that are freed up from buying food can be redirected to other areas to help you balance your personal budget and meet your other financial or preparedness goals.

Stress Relief

Did you know that dirt can make you happy? Dr. Christopher Lowry published research linking contact with the micro-organisms in the dirt with improvements in your mood. And gardening is even a recognized therapy for depression.
So, rather than turn to habits like shopping, playing video games, or drinking (which after a temporary boost will make you feel worse), how about planting a few seeds and watching them grow instead? Not only will you feel better, you will be doing something productive that helps your family at the same time.

Awareness

We live in a world that is going a million miles a minute. With everything constantly “on” in the background and electric lights telling our bodies it is day time all the time, it can be hard to even keep track of the days of the week. When you commit to being a gardener, you commit to being aware of what is around you in the real world. Suddenly you notice where the sun is and when. You start to see the subtle differences in soil, and actually appreciate that a wriggly worm is actually your garden helper. If you are anything like me, you will probably start to see that greater sense of awareness spill into other areas of your life. Your kids smiles start to mean more as you become more aware of the passing of a year. Each rain and each sunshine have their own special joy. You can take time to smell the roses.

Connection

Gardening is rarely an effort that happens in isolation. Even the smallest child will love to pick up a spade and dig, or carry the watering can for you. Suddenly you might find you have a new common goal with your spouse. And of course, once you harvest the abundance of produce, you will be able to share with all your friends and neighbors to show your love and build good will.
Extra garden harvests could also open up more opportunities for bartering.

Health

Creating and nurturing your own garden will not only improve your mental health, it can improve your physical health as well. You will now be able to know exactly what it is that you are putting in your body, without all the added chemicals and genetic modifications.
The work of planting, caring for, and harvesting your garden also provides your body with exercise that can be fun and motivating. You may even lose a few pounds as a result of the better food and more activity.

Start Now!

Gardening does not have to become a second full time job. Start little, and you will want to keep expanding each year as you experience all the joys of having your own garden. Even if you have limited space, you can start an indoor container garden. Or if that is still too much, then try sprouting or an herb garden to get your growing efforts going. And if you want something pretty and edible too, try some edible flowers. Resolve that you will start somewhere, because there are just so many things you will be missing out on if you don’t!

2009 Garden

This year my garden plot is much bigger and better! 12 x 14 ft - with a raised bed 8 x 4 ft and I can't wait to see all the plants growing in it. I'll be sure to share some pictures.

Memorial Day - 2011

COTG hopes that you celebrate Memorial Day surrounded by the people you love most.

During your parades, picnics, barbeques and time with family members and friends, please take some time to remember those who sacrificed so much to preserve our liberty, our Constitution, and our sovereignty. The best way to honor them is to continue to be vigilant to protect our freedoms and rights from those who would take them from us both from within, as well as from outside of, our borders.

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. It is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.
Let us, then, at the time appointed gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of spring-time; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us a sacred charge upon a nation's gratitude, the soldier's and sailor's widow and orphan.

In Flanders Fields
John McCrae, 1915.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

In 1915, inspired by that poem, Moina Michael replied with her own prose:

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

Ms. Michael conceived the idea to wear red poppies on Memorial day in honor of those who died serving the nation during war. She was the first to wear one, and she sold poppies to her friends and co-workers. The money she made went to benefit servicemen in need.

See Jane Run - See Jane Dump The Baby

It is really just incredible.
Here we have students who cannot read or write or compute, and the brilliant legislators in New York want them to spend time learning how to properly get rid of unwanted children.
After two young moms recently abandoned their newborn babies -- one of whom did not survive -- New York officials are proposing that high school curriculum include lessons on what mothers can do if they give birth to a baby they don't want.

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes, State Sen. Eric Adams and State Assemblyman Hakim Jeffries are proposing state legislation requiring the change to high school health curriculum.

The officials envision students being taught in public school about so-called "safe haven laws," which allow a parent to leave a newborn anonymously without prosecution as long as the newborn is abandoned in a safe way.

Parents do not face charges if they bring a newborn to a hospital, police station or fire station that is staffed.

I hear they are calling the curriculum "Babies Don't Belong In Dumpsters 101".

I don't know what is sicker - that the kids would be mandated to sit through this curriculum or that parents are not teaching their children any sense of human decency or morality such that these kids end up dumping their own kids in the garbage!

Our Republic is certainly doomed.

There are some really good comments to that article - I feel that I must repost a couple:
"the statistics are worse (ABC News, not exactly a racist outfit). By the way, statistics like this aren't racial, they are just statistics. "Specifically non-Hispanic Blacks have a 59.8% abortion rate. Hispanics have a 41.3% abortion rate. Asians have a 22.7% abortion rate. And non-Hispanic Whites have a 20.4% abortion rate." (January 09, 2011 new report ABCLocal NYC) I am so bored with cries of racism that replace real discussion because democrats, progressives, and liberals are so ill prepared to engage. I guess it's just easier to accuse everyone of racism, homophobia and hate speech." - Theodore Baar · American College of Switzerland

"Amen to that! You just lifted the rug on the dirty little 'progressive' secret. Margaret Sanger was all about getting rid of the 'undesirables' in society. What she accomplished is legal genocide in the Black community promoted by the liberals and disguised as choice. Now they are working on the Hispanics. If these girls would have killed their babies a couple of months earlier it would have been legal and they would have been called courageous. We have to ask the hard question, what has sex ed accomplished in all the years it has been implemented. I say more of the same and this BS curriculum about where to dump your unwanted baby will just bring about the dumping of more unwanted babies. Liberal policies have a way of going full circle and slapping them on the ass because they are always short sighted and never consider the big picture or unintended consequences. Liberalism is a mental illness. Look at what it has done to our society and country as a whole." - Judith Kappus Bradley
How utterly utterly sad.... and tragic.... and infuriating.
Thank a Progressive.

Ron Paul - The Last Nail In The Coffin

Americans... are you going to continue to allow the government/Congress and our president to abuse their authority and to expand their control where they are not authorized by our Constitution to do so?

What will it take for you to say enough?
By then will it be too late?

Sen. Rand Paul Argues Against Patriot Act Provisions

Just brilliant!

"Bottom line is I don't want to live in a country where we give up our freedoms our privacy. I don't want to live in a country that loses constitutional protections that protect us as individuals. We do have a right to privacy. You have a right not to have the government reading your VISA bill every month. We do have rights and we should protect these." Sen. Rand Paul

The legislation being debated is the result of a deal on extending Patriot Act provisions reached between House and Senate leaders last week. The bill renews three provisions that are set to expire this Friday. Those provisions authorize court-approved roving wiretaps; give the FBI access to library records and anything else considered relevant to a terrorism investigation; and monitor so-called “lone wolf” terror suspects. (From Politico: Sen. Rand Paul demands debate).

I will bet that you didn't know that your phone conversations, VISA bills and bank and library records are being routinely screened.

We cannot give up our liberties and rights for the sake of security - because the government will at some point abuse the power that they have. They already do. We can still catch terrorists (i.e. those that wish to harm us) while retaining our freedom. Apparently the boneheads in Congress - Republicans included - decided that we should proceed towards extending this trampling of our freedom! Sigh.
"The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home." - James Madison

"If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom." - Dwight D. Eisenhower, President and 5-Star General

CT Education Commish - No Takers

Even with the national unemployment rate at 9-10% - CT can't seem to fill a top government position. Immediate past Education Commissioner Mark McQuillan resigned abruptly nearly five months ago. You'd think by now there would be someone out there who would jump at the chance to make a six figure income ($180,353) with all kinds of perks as the head honcho of the CT Education Department. However, fewer than 10 candidates have applied to become CT's Education Commissioner. Even the adverts in Education Week have produced little to choose from. The State Board has had to extend the application deadline to try to generate more applications.

It has been reported that half the states in the country have lost top level education "leaders".
All in all, it must be a pretty crappy job.
But take a look at what they expect:
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has said he is looking for the next education commissioner to be a "proven change agent." He has said he wants to reform teacher tenure to give schools flexibility when facing layoff decisions, reform the funding formula for education aid to towns, transfer responsibility of the state's vocational-technical schools, reform early childhood education, and overcome the achievement gap between poor students and their more affluent peers.
Change agent?
Sounds like a tall order since CT government schools are in dire need of real change and they have problems up the wazoo - that the state has created for themselves.

But the problem is that the notion of change that truly accomplishes something does not mesh well at all with the political goals of those that the Education Commissioner must report to. The Commish gets hamstrung between union demands and quality education, between the political game playing and actual achievement, between impossible expectations and the reality of what the problems being faced are. And then of course there is the endless fights over funding and the continuing pillaging of CT taxpayers who are pretty much tapped out.

No wonder no one wants this job.
Anyone who truly wants to make a difference in education would steer clear from this job because their are too many people in the way of getting the job done right and there are too many fingers in the educational funding pie to really get the money to where it counts - the kids. Anyone remotely bringing fresh ideas and "out of the box" thinking to this position would be squashed in no time flat. Unfortunately, that is what this position desperately needs; someone who can dismantle the waste ridden and ineffective educational empire that has been erected.

Bruce Hunter, associate executive director of the American Association of School Administrators, said, "These jobs have become very political and everybody has an idea how to do your job better then you do. There just aren't as many people willing to take that job anymore," he said.
The stress from the political scene in Connecticut apparently led McQuillan to unexpectedly resign last December, following a very public outburst. George A. Coleman, who has been at the department for years, has been named the interim commissioner, but he has indicated he is not a candidate for permanent appointment.
In my opinion, most people that are already too steeped in the system are incapable of really bring meaningful change to anything.

Then of course, most "Superman" candidates do not want to make merely $180K plus. Even though McQuillan's base salary was slightly above average in comparison to 40 other states, it seems this is not nearly enough compensation for the BS they have to both put up with as well as produce. And let's face it - it isn't that much more than the ridiculous salaries that school superintendents across CT rake in. (Remember - those high salaries and pensions - well it's for the kids....)
Some superintendents in the state earn as much as $280,000, according to the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents. The average pay is $165,000.
And of course, because of austerity in state government the poor commissioner is expected to do more with less, has less staff at his beck and call - and some claim that as a result, "The ability of those department to meet the challenges facing education have not kept pace." (please pass me the Kleenex)

But the State Board of Education is getting desperate and soon they will be discussing hiring a search firm to shake the trees even harder to find their next whipping... er golden.... boy or girl.

Progressive tax and spend Rep. Andy Fleischmann (D-West Hartford), co-chairman of CT Legislature's Education Committee, said, "This is a department in need of some rejuvenation. We've fallen behind other states in real reform. It's time for us to sell that Connecticut is ready for reform to attract A-list applicants."

I have news for Rep. Andy Fleischmann - if he and his Progressive compadres didn't make such moronic education legislation and didn't tie the hands of municipalities with absurd unfunded mandates and didn't bastardize Education Cost Sharing formulas over the years they way they have - perhaps they would already have an Education Commissioner who could make some worthwhile and workable changes to the way CT government schools are run.

Until then - they will just have to be happy with "less than A-List" applicants. It seems God is too busy doing other things and cannot take the position just now.

"They could in the meantime look on the U-list for unionized, or the S-list for socialist, and the E-list for entitled" (hat tip for that idea to the commenter HaveToSaySomething on Thu, 05/19/2011 - 8:53am. CT Mirror)

4th Amendment Dies In Indiana Court

Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Fourth Amendment dies in Indiana.
The Indiana Supreme Court now says the 4th amendment doesn't apply in all circumstances. Here's the PDF of the actual decision.

So pretty much this court ruling (3-2) by the Indiana Supreme Court says that people do not have the right to resist police officers who enter their homes illegally.
Get that? ILLEGALLY!

This of course flies against the Castle Doctrine and Common Law regarding the rights of homeowners. Where is the limit on police power? Police can not just barge in and do whatever they want without a warrant or probable cause! Apparently, the Indiana Court doesn't see it that way.

Just Un-Freaking-Believable!
We must fight this!
Get these judges dismissed!
Get this ruling overturned!

...and here is a refresher:

Bill of Rights

The poorest man may in his cottage bid defiance to all the forces of the Crown. It may be frail; its roof may shake; the wind may blow through it; the storm may enter; the rain may enter; but the King of England cannot enter – all his force dares not cross the threshold of the ruined tenement! - William Pitt, Earl of Chatham, on the occasion of a debate in Parliament

The same is no less true today and applies equally to forces of the State. - Indiana Justice Rucker, dissenting.

US Department Of Education Is Breaking The Law

Well, the US Department of Education is an Unconstitutional entity anyway....
but that being said... they are overtly breaking the law.
Here is why. (and H/T to Linda Dobson at Parent at the Helm for this)

The US Department of Education is taking over more control over what happens in local classrooms.

Read the blog post “The U. S. Department of Education is Breaking the Law” by Jay P. Greene. The law that is being broken is the Department of Education Organization Act 1979 (signed by President Carter, established the cabinet-level department.)

The U.S. Department of Education is dictating curriculum. It is illegal for them to do that.

U. S. Department of Education spokesman, Peter Cunningham, says:
“Just for the record: we are for high standards, not national standards and we are for a well-rounded curriculum, not a national curriculum. There is a big difference between funding development of curriculum—which is something we have always done—and mandating a national curriculum—which is something we have never done. And yes—we believe in using incentives to advance our agenda.”
They are absolutely and very overtly instituting national standards and a national curriculum.

The law states:
No provision of a program administered by the Secretary or by any other officer of the Department shall be construed to authorize the Secretary or any such officer to exercise any direction, supervision, or control over the curriculum, program of instruction, administration, or personnel of any educational institution, school, or school system, over any accrediting agency or association, or over the selection or content of library resources, textbooks, or other instructional materials by any educational institution or school system, except to the extent authorized by law.” (emphasis added)
That is pretty plain - easy to understand and comprehend - yet the US Department of Education is wholly and unabashedly ignoring this law. They fund curriculum development and they coerce states to make laws using the power of the purse. They help create standardized test content, and they have influence over textbook publishers. They are indeed dictating what schools can and cannot do.

The “Critical Response to the Shanker Institute Manifesto and the U. S. Department of Education’s Initiative to Develop a National Curriculum and National Assessments” points out, there are multiple reasons a national curriculum “does not meet the criteria for sound public policy.”
First, there is no constitutional or statutory basis for national standards, national assessments, or national curricula.

Second, there is no consistent evidence that a national curriculum leads to high academic achievement.

Third, the national standards on which the administration is planning to base a national curriculum are inadequate.

Fourth, there is no body of evidence for a “best” design for curriculum sequences in any subject.

Fifth, there is no evidence to justify a single high school curriculum for all students.

Linda Dobson adds a sixth reason - especially for homeschooling parents: A national curriculum would become part of many, if not most, state laws or regulations for you, too.

Clearly, the US Department of Education - an Unconstitutional entity - is breaking the law. It is also fulfilling one of the 10 planks of the Communist Manifesto.
10. Free education for all children in public schools
Americans are being taxed to support what we call 'public' schools, but are actually "government force-tax-funded schools " Even private schools are government regulated. The purpose is to train the young to work for the communal debt system. We also call it the Department of Education, the NEA and Outcome Based "Education" . These are used so that all children can be indoctrinated and inculcated with the government propaganda, like "majority rules", and "pay your fair share".

Remember this?

"Let me control the textbooks and I will control the state. The state will take youth and give to youth its own education and its own upbringing. Your child belongs to us already….what are you?" - Adolf Hitler

Yet another reason to homeschool your children - and do it in freedom.

Healthcare As A Right = Slavery

And Senator Rand Paul is correct:

"Our founding documents were very clear about this. You have a right to pursue happiness but there is no guarantee of physical comfort. There is no guarantee of concrete items. In order to give something concrete or someone's service, you have got to take it from someone so there is an implied threat of force. If I am a physician in your community and you say you have a right to healthcare do you have a right to beat down my door with the police, escort me away, and force me to take care of you? That is ultimately what the right to free healthcare will do. If you believe in a right to healthcare then you are believing basically in the use of force to conscript someone to do your bidding."

Healthcare may be necessary, and it may be important, but it is not a RIGHT!

The Wasteful Generation

We just moved our daughter back home from college for the summer.
It was just unbelievable the amount of usable stuff that was summarily tossed into ginormous dumpsters by her dormitory.
Everything from futons to flat screen TV's to mini-fridges to plastic storage boxes.... toasters... lamps.
You name it - it was thrown away.
Good. Usable. Almost brand new. Stuff.
Piled high in dumpsters.
The dumpsters were overflowing!
It was appalling.
I really could not believe my eyes.

She tells me a friend of hers had room mates that just left drawers and closets full of clothes. Some expensive stuff too.
Gifts from family members.
When contacted by the friend about what to do with their left over "stuff", the reply was, "I don't care - throw it away - whatever".

Are we to believe that this generation is so incredibly irresponsible; so wasteful?

But to be honest, I have seen this before - even when my son attended college several years ago.
One could make a small fortune picking up items on move out day and re-selling them on Ebay, or tag sales. You didn't even have to "dive" into the dumpsters. There was plenty of good stuff just sitting besides them.

And if you attend an expensive school like Yale - the "trash" thrown out on move-out day is even more valuable!

Parents who are footing the bill for these college expenses should wise up.
Their money is literally being thrown away.
But what is so very sad is that these kids have absolutely no concept of their wastefulness.
What a shame.
Especially when the items they are throwing into the dumpster are perfectly good and usable.
Aren't these kids supposed to be ecologically minded? Reusing and recycling everything?
Not at all.
Not. At. All.

And of course they will be back next semester - buying the same stuff, to fill their dorm room, from Target (or where ever).

The College Conspiracy

This video from National Inflation Association exposes the fraud of higher education.
It's an hour long - but definitely worth watching.

Easy college loans have made college costs soar, and have burdened our children (and parents) with huge debts that they struggle to pay off - even if they are lucky to get good paying jobs.

To add insult to injury - kids are ending up with wholly useless degrees.

Schumer's No Ride List

No train travel for you - one year!

Sen. Charles Schumer (NY) wants "train security" via a "do not ride" list.
So, I guess this makes Schumer like the Soup Nazi - only he's the Train Nazi.

This is really getting insane.
I mean honestly, if people don't believe these are the trappings of a police state then it's time to just pack it in.

Apparently he's all concerned because of some new information found at "Bin Laden's lair" that suggests train travel in the US is a target for the terrorists - specifically New York trains - AMTRAK trains. (and really, why would they think otherwise?)

He said the following,
"Anyone, even a member of al-Qaida could purchase a train ticket and board an Amtrak train without so much as a question asked, so that’s why I’m calling for the creation of an Amtrak no ride list. That would take the secure flight program and apply it to Amtrak trains.”
The "do not ride" list is supposed to be like the no-fly list that the airlines have which despite TSA groping children and general population, is supposed to keep suspected terrorists from flying the friendly skies. Now we can grope children at train stations and deny people travel ... just because.

So who do you suppose will really be denied riding the rails? Lots of people are considered terrorists these days ... according to the MIAC report .. you know, people such as returning veterans, Ron Paul/Chuck Baldwin/Bob Barr supporters, people who have knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, and people who display certain political bumper stickers as potential domestic terrorists. The MIAC report equated Ron Paul supporters, Libertarians, people who own gold, or even people who fly a U.S. flag and members of Campaign For Liberty, with radical race hate groups and terrorists! No doubt, Schumer would love to see those people detained and locked up.

Remember the Enemy Belligerent bill that was floating around?

Don't forget.... Who or what is a terrorist will be solely the determination of those in charge... and that includes Chuck Schumer.

But - it's all in the name of "safety" of course.

Maybe it's time we boycott public transportation, and vote liberty sucking tyrants like Schumer out of office!

By the way... where was Chuckie regarding securing our borders? (sound of crickets chirping)

Obama Following The Hitler Propaganda Playbook

It's just amazing what the sheeple will fall for...

In the name of "national security" and to "keep people safe"
A new national alert system is set to begin in New York City that will alert the public to emergencies via cell phones.

Presidential and local emergency messages as well as Amber Alerts would appear on cell phones equipped with special chips and software.

The Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Emergency Management Agency said the system would also warn about terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

Verizon and AT&T, the nation’s largest cell phone carriers, are already on board. Consumers would be able to opt out of all but those presidential messages.

The announcement of the new emergency alert system came Monday in the wake of Osama bin Laden’s death and an uptick in security and safety concerns around New York City.

For now, the system is capable on certain high-end cell phones but starting next year, all cell phones will be required to have the chip that receives alerts.

By the end of the year, the new system will be in place in New York City and Washington and in cities around the country by the end of 2012.

Did you know that one of the first things Hitler and the Nazi party did was to hand out radios to the people? They were required in every household. They were then used for propaganda.
To ensure that everybody could hear Hitler speak, Goebbels organised the sale of cheap radios. these were called the "People's Receiver" and they cost only 76 marks. A smaller version cost just 35 marks. Goebbels believed that if Hitler was to give speeches, the people should be able to him. Loud speakers were put up in streets so that people could not avoid any speeches by the Fuhrer. Cafes and other such properties were ordered to play in public speeches by Hitler.
It wouldn't surprise me if cell phones with Obama alert capability will be given out to the poor and "illegal". Just another service he'll provide as fuhrer.. er leader. Wait till the Obama propaganda machine starts sending messages out to these cell phones.

Bogeyman Bin Laden is still being used by the government to control us with fear... and I hear Osama has hit the campaign trail with Obama.

Big Sis no doubt will be able to better track you with these specially chipped phones and alerts. It is being said that all cell phones in recent years have GPS receivers, and that the owners of those phone are able to disable the GPS via their phone settings... however, law enforcement may have the capability to track using trilateration anyway. Plus, it is said that the police via the cell phone company can turn on the GPS only with a serial number. (Supposedly they need a warrant to do that)

anyway:
More TSA groping in more places - bus stations, train stations,,,
REAL-ID that you will carry showing your proper identification.
ID Chips in your arms.

We now have the high tech version of this:

But...it's for "your safety".
Aren't you glad we live in a "free country"?

Middle Class Crisis

Interesting facts about the Middle Class in the US under Stress
Two recessions, a couple of market crashes, and stubbornly high unemployment are all wreaking havoc on America's middle class....

Here are just some of the sobering facts:

-- There are 8.5 million people receiving unemployment insurance and over 40 million receiving food stamps.

-- At the current pace of job creation, the economy won't return to full employment until 2018.

-- Middle-income jobs are disappearing from the economy. The share of middle-income jobs in the United States has fallen from 52% in 1980 to 42% in 2010.

-- Middle-income jobs have been replaced by low-income jobs, which now make up 41% of total employment.

-- 17 million Americans with college degrees are doing jobs that require less than the skill levels associated with a bachelor's degree.

-- Over the past year, nominal wages grew only 1.7% while all consumer prices, including food and energy, increased by 2.7%.

-- Wages and salaries have fallen from 60% of personal income in 1980 to 51% in 2010. Government transfers have risen from 11.7% of personal income in 1980 to 18.4% in 2010, a post-war high.
The middle class is shrinking, which threatens the social composition and stability of the world's biggest economy.

More people are being pushed into lower standards of living as homes are being foreclosed upon and people remain out of work.

The worst part of all of this is the dependency on government that is being created, as well as the expectation that government should somehow pay for food, clothing, education and housing. In the meantime, everything that government is doing - printing more money, and spending more on entitlement programs, creates even more of a tax burden for people and the businesses that employ them. And as an added bonus, as businesses are taxed and regulated more, they will continue sending jobs overseas, further fanning the flames of unemployment here at home.

Destroying the middle class is not a good thing for this country.

Happy Mother's Day!

For all you moms out there, I hope you have a splendid day doing whatever it is that you enjoy doing.

I am looking forward to spending a lovely day with the people that I love most.

"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts." - Washington Irving

"My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her." - George Washington

"That best academy, a mother's knee." - James Russell Lowell

And to my mom - wherever she is in the universe - Happy Mother's Day ... I love you and I miss you! You are forever in my heart.

Natural Born Gets Scrubbed

Ever since the new and improved version of Barry Soetero... er... Barack Hussein Obama II's birth certificate was released there has been a subtle scrubbing of information on the Internet regarding the term "Natural Born".

It appears Wikipedia has been one of the first places to be "cleaned". Wikipedia has taken down references to de Vattel... let me explain.

A capture of the Wikipedia "Natural born citizen of the United States" entry by the Wayback Machine, which archives website pages at various points in time, shows a reference to de Vattel on April 10 in an account of the court case United States v. Wong Kim Ark.

In the current version, the reference in the text and two citations at the bottom are missing.

Anyone who has done some studying of the Founders knows that they were concerned that a president born of a foreigner might have divided loyalties.

Swiss legal philosopher Emmerich de Vattel defined natural-born citizenship in the 1757 treatise "The Law of Nations". His definition, which reflected that of the framers of our Constitution, was "those born in the country, of parents who are citizens." In the preface it states:
This 1758 work by Swiss legal philosopher Emmerich de Vattel is of special importance to scholars of constitutional history and law, for it was read by many of the Founders of the United States of America, and informed their understanding of the principles of law which became established in the Constitution of 1787. Chitty's notes and the appended commentaries by Edward D. Ingraham, used in lectures at William and Mary College, provide a valuable perspective on Vattel's exposition from the viewpoint of American jurists who had adapted those principles to the American legal experience.
De Vattel explained that "it is necessary to be born of a person who is a citizen, for if he be born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and not his country."

CHAP. XIX. OF OUR NATIVE COUNTRY, AND SEVERAL THINGS THAT RELATE TO IT. § 212. Citizens and natives.
The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens. As the society cannot exist and perpetuate itself otherwise than by the children of the citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all their rights. The society is supposed to desire this, in consequence of what it owes to its own preservation; and it is presumed, as matter of course, that each citizen, on entering into society, reserves to his children the right of becoming members of it. The country of the fathers is therefore that of the children; and these become true citizens merely by their tacit consent. We shall soon see whether, on their coming to the years of discretion, they may renounce their right, and what they owe to the society in which they were born. I say, that, in order to be of the country, it is necessary that a person be born of a father who is a citizen; for, if he is born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and not his country.
The definition has now become quite relevant to the question of President Obama's eligibility, as it relates to the term "natural born" in our US Constitution (Article 2 section 1) , because while this recent publicized birth certificate (which many people still dispute as a photoshopped fabrication) indicates that he was born in the United States, it also clearly shows that his father was Barack Obama Sr., a non-immigrant foreign student whose citizenship was Kenyan (at the time he would have been a British citizen). Interesting video here and article from March 2010 here showing the possible original.

Interestingly enough Barack Obama himself, as Senator Barack Obama co-sponsored and voted for a resolution with that definition with regard to John McCain's citizenship status!

It looks like Barack Obama is not Natural Born and thus ineligible to serve... and even HE HIMSELF agreed with that assertion as a US Senator.

Funny how the Osama Bin Laden story broke shortly after to distract us all from this information... and many are saying that's a tall tale as well, since there are no photos being released and the body was dumped in the ocean - Mafia style.

It's all theater, isn't it?

Gas Price Hypocrisy

It's amazing how gasoline prices have been used in political theater.
The hypocrisy and media spin is just incredible from one administration to another.
Have a listen:

This has less to do with oil company profits - although more companies are posting profits not because they are doing more business... but because prices are inflated.

The truth is that the dollar has become worth so much less that we are now seeing inflated prices at the pump AND the supermarket.

But the political spin says Obama high prices are Good!
I'll bet that makes you feel better (NOT).

Kill Your TV

Television ownership has taken a dive in the US.
More people are turning off the idiot box.

I am one of them.
I haven't had TV in my house for well over a year.
The thought of spending over $75 a month for the drivel that was being offered on cable was repugnant. The news stations were just as bad - if not worse!
Anyway, Comcast wanted me to switch to digital because of government mandate. That meant buy a new TV set or buy the new accoutrements to be able to get digital signal. We just said "NO" to the whole lousy lot.
There isn't anything on TV worth watching.

The article in the New York Times
states:
For the first time in 20 years, the number of homes in the United States with television sets has dropped.

The Nielsen Company, which takes TV set ownership into account when it produces ratings, will tell television networks and advertisers on Tuesday that 96.7 percent of American households now own sets, down from 98.9 percent previously.

There are two reasons for the decline, according to Nielsen. One is poverty: some low-income households no longer own TV sets, most likely because they cannot afford new digital sets and antennas.

The other is technological wizardry: young people who have grown up with laptops in their hands instead of remote controls are opting not to buy TV sets when they graduate from college or enter the work force, at least not at first. Instead, they are subsisting on a diet of television shows and movies from the Internet.

... If the current decline persists, it will have profound implications for the networks, studios and distributors that are wedded, at least in part, to the current television ecosystem.

...The transition to digital broadcasting from analog in 2009 aggravated the hardship for some of these households. Some could not afford to upgrade, Nielsen surmised, though the government tried to provide subsidies in those situations.

And some in rural areas could not receive digital signals as effectively as analog signals for technical reasons. In those cases, "if you're an affluent household — or most middle-class households — you're going to get a satellite dish. If you're a struggling household, likely you're not going to be able to afford that option," Ms. McDonough said.

Then there are the tech-savvy Americans who once lived in a household with a television, but no longer do. These are either cord-cutters — a term that refers to people who stop paying for cable television — or people who never signed on for cable. Ms. McDonough suggested that these were younger Americans who were moving into new residences and deciding not to buy a TV for themselves, especially if they "don't have the financial means to get one immediately."

Yup - we 'cut the cord" and we haven't regretted it in the least.
It's pretty liberating actually.

Chipping America

Here's a TV advertisement for human implantable RFID chip uploaded to YouTube in July 2010.

They are selling this tagging device to you "for your protection".
I say they can take their chips and shove them.
I am not cattle!!
I am not a piece of inventory!!

Your electronic medical records that they are now establishing as part of Obamacare and your bank information will all be retrieved eventually with this chip.

REAL-ID is all part of the slide to this.
Your Drivers license becomes your ID.
Your ID is part of a database.
Your medical records will be in a database.
Your bank records will be in a database.
Voila.
Your chip number will access it all.

I recall that people in Auschwitz had the "low-tech" version:

Do not allow them to chip you - ever.
Especially if they say "it's for your own good".
Believe me - it is not.

Bin Laden Reported Dead

Two years ago 2009, Benazir Bhutto told David Frost in an interview that Bin Laden was dead. Also, the Pakistani President, Asif Ali Zardari, said he thought Bin Laden was dead.

Here is the David Frost interview of Benazir Bhutto (Asif Ali Zardari's wife) before she was assassinated (well, she hit her head and died during a bomb blast/assassination attempt).

David Frost did not challenge her on her assertion (2:14) that Bin Laden was murdered.

Oh, but of course these leaders must have "mis-spoke".

Then there was this news report from Fox in 2001
Usama bin Laden has died a peaceful death due to an untreated lung complication, the Pakistan Observer reported, citing a Taliban leader who allegedly attended the funeral of the Al Qaeda leader.

"The Coalition troops are engaged in a mad search operation but they would never be able to fulfill their cherished goal of getting Usama alive or dead," the source said.

Bin Laden, according to the source, was suffering from a serious lung complication and succumbed to the disease in mid-December, in the vicinity of the Tora Bora mountains. The source claimed that bin Laden was laid to rest honorably in his last abode and his grave was made as per his Wahabi belief.

About 30 close associates of bin Laden in Al Qaeda, including his most trusted and personal bodyguards, his family members and some "Taliban friends," attended the funeral rites. A volley of bullets was also fired to pay final tribute to the "great leader."

The Taliban source who claims to have seen bin Laden's face before burial said "he looked pale ... but calm, relaxed and confident."

Asked whether bin Laden had any feelings of remorse before death, the source vehemently said "no." Instead, he said, bin Laden was proud that he succeeded in his mission of igniting awareness amongst Muslims about hegemonistic designs and conspiracies of "pagans" against Islam. Bin Laden, he said, held the view that the sacrifice of a few hundred people in Afghanistan was nothing, as those who laid their lives in creating an atmosphere of resistance will be adequately rewarded by Almighty Allah.

When asked where bin Laden was buried, the source said, "I am sure that like other places in Tora Bora, that particular place too must have vanished."

Now, amidst a sagging economy, a birth certificate forgery controversy and poor poll numbers, Obama announces Bin Laden is dead... on a Sunday night before the markets open on Monday.

Apparently, it has taken the Obama administration 2 years to produce Obama's birth certificate and Osama's death certificate.

There hasn't been a confirmed Osama sighting since the attack on Tora Bora.
They said they needed a week to confirm Osama's DNA...
You mean they raided his home and found a hair brush?

Apparently timing is everything. Our government even waited a week to break the story AFTER the Royal wedding and of course the "official" announcement came in the middle of Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice.

Oh please, I smell another White House BS story.

If this is indeed the official photo (on the right) of Osama shot in the head...
Tell me this picture wasn't photoshopped.... from the photo on the left.

and... how convenient that Osama Bin Laden is "buried at sea"

And, if indeed, Osama Bin Laden is dead as is now being reported by the media - they we can bring the troops home - abolish the Dept. of Homeland Security, and stop TSA from molesting children.

Oh, but wait - now that Osama is "officially dead" - we can expect retaliatory attacks - so we must give up more civil liberties to our government just "to be safe'.

It's all theater.
