Boehner's plan is just as bad as Obama and Reid's.
One Alabama businessman is throwing in his hat.
During a recent Birmingham, Alabama, public hearing, Coal Mine owner Ronnie Bryant listened to a room full of people air their concerns to federal officials about businesses allegedly polluting the drinking water and causing cases of cancer.
No matter how many regulations these business owners work - and pay - to comply with - they just get more roadblocks put in their way. Mining and drilling for oil have been villainized. So now one by one these businessmen will just shut out the lights, lock the door, and all the people who work for them will be out of a job.
“Nearly every day without fail…men stream to these [mining] operations looking for work in Walker County. They can’t pay their mortgage. They can’t pay their car note. They can’t feed their families. They don’t have health insurance. And as I stand here today, I just…you know…what’s the use? I got a permit to open up an underground coal mine that would employ probably 125 people. They’d be paid wages from $50,000 to $150,000 a year. We would consume probably $50 million to $60 million in consumables a year, putting more men to work. And my only idea today is to go home. What’s the use? I see these guys—I see them with tears in their eyes—looking for work. And if there’s so much opposition to these guys making a living, I feel like there’s no need in me putting out the effort to provide work for them. So…basically what I’ve decided is not to open the mine. I’m just quitting. Thank you.”
Atlas is indeed shrugging.
Now all those employees can just go on welfare... and we can import more coal from somewhere else.

Compromise is not what we need.
We need to do what it takes to fix the problems Washington created.
Not happy with the proposed raising of the debt ceiling by Republicans in exchange for 10 years of spread out spending cuts which won't amount to much? or the creation of a "Super Congress" committee? Call John Boehner 202-225-6205 and then your congressman. Lets call together today - on July 27 - for maximum effect. Boehner's Ohio number 513-779-5400
White House comments line (202-456-1111) and switchboard line (202-456-1414)
Tell them -
No Tax increases!
No debt ceiling increases!
No special "select committees" (Super Congress)!!
Cut spending and balance the budget!
"They key number is 7. Seven trillion in new debt over ten years (at least). And only 7 billion in reduced spending in year 1. $1000 in guaranteed debt for every $1 in spending cuts, with no end in sight. The plan never balances, ever. For these reasons and many more I strongly oppose the Boehner Debt plan and urge House Republicans to do the same." - Sen. Rand Paul
Schiff is right again.
We have already compromised ourselves into a fiscal disaster.
No more compromises!

Really - Obama's speech was all such nonsense!
One commenter on Facebook (Jim Childers) summed this speech up quite well: "Blah, blah, BLAME BUSH, blah, blah, BLAME REPUBLICANS, blah, blah, BLAME THE RICH, blah, blah, INVOKE REAGAN, blah, blah, SCARE SENIORS, blah, blah, GOD BLESS AMERICA.""
Dear Barack Obama - How about you actually LEAD instead of LECTURING the country and BLAMING everyone else? We don't want anymore of your tax and spend policy! Cut the spending and balance the budget already!
TARP - FAIL
CASH FOR CLUNKERS - FAIL
CHEVY VOLT - FAIL
QE1 and QE2 - FAIL
BAILOUTS - FAIL
ENDING WARS - FAIL
GREEN JOBS - FAIL
HOPE and CHANGE - HUGE FAIL
BALANCING THE BUDGET - FAIL!
TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT - FAIL
1/7 of the country is on food stamps
Millions are unemployed
More businesses are failing
The dollar is losing reserve status and value
More people are becoming dependent on government handouts.
Mr. Obama you and your Marxist policies are killing our country, chasing more jobs overseas and destroying our currency.
Scaring Seniors about their Social Security is irresponsible and reprehensible.
It's political BS.
(How anyone can even consider re-electing this inept empty suit politician is beyond me).
Barry Soetero said he wants us to listen to Thomas Jefferson.
We ARE listening to Thomas Jefferson!!
"We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt." - Thomas Jefferson
"Never spend your money before you have it." - Thomas Jefferson
Perhaps our leader should listen to himself!
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. - Sen Barack Obama, 2006We don't need job killing tax increases!
This president still has no plan for dealing with government overspending and overborrowing!
He just wants to raise our taxes!
Sen. Rand Paul made a great statement:
“The President tonight took to the airwaves to make yet another speech – but has yet to provide a solution to address our current debt crisis, and again insisted on historic tax hikes. The plans proposed by the respective leadership of both chambers of Congress do nothing to defeat our debt, but rather perpetuate it.
“Both of the Congressional ‘deals’ would leave our nation spending more and accruing more debt – at least $7 trillion more over the next 10 years. Real spending cuts – not small reductions in proposed increases – need to be at the core of this debate, and neither plan balances ever. The Cut, Cap and Balance bill is a great starting point. Any deal must fix our debt problem, which I believe can only be solved through a Balanced Budget Amendment.
“I call on the President to stop threatening Americans with the possibility of defaulting on our debt. We have enough money coming in to keep paying out Social Security checks and the interest on our debt. Political scare tactics and smoke-and-mirror ‘deals’ won’t solve our debt problem, and in fact will likely cause a larger one by forcing the downgrading of our debt rating. This is irresponsible by all parties. It’s time for real leadership to protect our nation’s fiscal security. It’s time to balance our budget.”
STOP THE SPENDING!
DO NOT RAISE THE DEBT LIMIT!
It's that simple!
"Right now we are in the early stages of rampant inflation, which means we are going to be hit with higher prices and higher interest rates, that is going to be a tax. So I see the only solution and that is to cut spending." Ron Paul
For heavens sake - someone in Washington please give Obama an Economics book and a copy of the Constitution!
Monday, July 25, 2011
HuffPo posted an article that reveals a plan for a Super Congress - yet another unConstitutional idea from the folks in Washington:
Debt ceiling negotiators think they've hit on a solution to address the debt ceiling impasse and the public's unwillingness to let go of benefits such as Medicare and Social Security that have been earned over a lifetime of work: Create a new Congress.Honestly - The creation of a 12 person elitist panel of lawmakers is absurd and is just meant to fast track more awful legislation through the Washington meat grinder.
This "Super Congress," composed of members of both chambers and both parties, isn't mentioned anywhere in the Constitution, but would be granted extraordinary new powers. Under a plan put forth by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and his counterpart Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), legislation to lift the debt ceiling would be accompanied by the creation of a 12-member panel made up of 12 lawmakers -- six from each chamber and six from each party.
Legislation approved by the Super Congress -- which some on Capitol Hill are calling the "super committee" -- would then be fast-tracked through both chambers, where it couldn't be amended by simple, regular lawmakers, who'd have the ability only to cast an up or down vote. With the weight of both leaderships behind it, a product originated by the Super Congress would have a strong chance of moving through the little Congress and quickly becoming law. A Super Congress would be less accountable than the system that exists today, and would find it easier to strip the public of popular benefits. Negotiators are currently considering cutting the mortgage deduction and tax credits for retirement savings, for instance, extremely popular policies that would be difficult to slice up using the traditional legislative process.
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has made a Super Congress a central part of his last-minute proposal, multiple news reports and people familiar with his plan say. A picture of Boehner's proposal began to come into focus Saturday evening: The debt ceiling would be raised for a short-term period and coupled with an equal dollar figure of cuts, somewhere in the vicinity of a trillion dollars over ten years. A second increase in the debt ceiling would be tied to the creation of a Super Congress that would be required to find a minimum amount of spending cuts. Because the elevated panel would need at least one Democratic vote, its plan would presumably include at least some revenue, though if it's anything like the deals on the table today, it would likely be heavily slanted toward spending cuts. Or, as Obama said of the deal he was offering Republicans before Boehner walked out, "If it was unbalanced, it was unbalanced in the direction of not enough revenue."
These people (Boehner, McConnell, Reid, Pelosi and Obama) and are not to be trusted - and this proposal is dangerous. It appears that these so-called "leaders" are working against our best interests as a nation, the quite against their oaths of office. A so-called "Super Congress" would be a new legislative body - and quite Unconstitutional.
This idea borders on treason.. and is reminiscent of the Politburo:
In reality, the Politburo was a self-perpetuating body that served as the executive branch of the Soviet Union, and its decisions de facto had the force of law (aka - making "policies"). It oversaw the operations of the Committee and made all major policy decisions, which it then passed down through the Central Committee, the Supreme Soviet and the Party Congress. Its control extended from the Party and into government because Party personnel held all key government posts and party discipline therefore ensured that Politburo policy was implemented by all government organizations. One of the few known instances of the Central Committee overruling the Presidium (as the Politburo was known) was the defeat of the so-called Anti-Party Group in 1957.
The Examiner wrote this:
This proposal and attempt to rob the American people of their Constitutional representation is a desperate attempt by members of Congress to supersede the legislative process, and force an unwanted plan into being. Just as many Congressmen reported in 2008 that the Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson threatened them with potential martial law if a bank bailout wasn't passed using taxpayer money, so to is this a blatant attempt to circumvent the American system to pass a plan most Congressmen and representatives, as well as the American people, do not want.
...It isn't shocking that an establishment Republican such as Mitch McConnell has proposed creating an 'elite' Super Congress to force unwanted legislation down the throats of the American people, but what is of concern is the fact that many members of Congress seem unwilling at all costs to cut spending at a time when out national debt has reached unprecedented levels, and when the national debt is higher than the total economic annual GDP of our nation.
Should this new Super Congress proposal be allowed to reach implementation, then the government will have set the precedent that the American people no longer have Constitutional representation, and our government will have morphed into a Soviet style 'polit bureau', where a select few will make decisions for the people and for the country.
America - please contact these people in Washington and tell them to knock it off!
We don't need an elitist panel dubbed the "Super Congress"
We need ALL of our legislators to do their freaking job and to honor their oath of office!!

Smart meters... coming to your home.
It is the digitization of the electric grid. It is the only publication targeted directly at the grid of the future, providing comprehensive information, on new trends, technologies and business opportunities. It's like a tracking device and it can also control WHEN you can use electricity.
Eventually the goal is to have these smart meters in all of our homes and if that ever happened there would essentially be no more privacy. Once installed, a smart meter monitors your home every single minute of every single day and it transmits very sophisticated data about your personal behavior back to the utility company. These digital meters can be hacked - which can cause increased utility bills and other problems. people who have had these installed are already complaining of higher utility bills.
It emits radiation too and it's just bad news.
The thing is, they say you cannot opt out of having them installed on your home!
The time to object to these smart meters is before they go in. Once they are in all of our homes it is going to be too late.
This is all part of the radical green agenda that is being forced down the throats of people all over the world.
We all need to "Just say NO" to these meters
Time To Go Off Grid!
In the meantime:
Here is a copy of the letter to write to your utility provider:

NOTICE OF NO CONSENT TO TRESPASS AND SURVEILLANCE, NOTICE OF LIABILITY
Dear (Energy Provider) and all agents, officers, employees, contractors and interested parties,
If you intend to install a "Smart Meter" or any activity monitoring device at the above address, you and all other parties are hereby denied consent for installation and use of all such device on the above property and installation and use of any activity monitoring device is hereby refused and prohibited. Informed consent is legally required for installation of any surveillance device and any device that will collect and transmit private and personal data to undisclosed and unauthorized parties for undisclosed and unauthorized purposes. Authorization for sharing of personal and private information may only be given by the originator and subject of that information. That authorization is hereby denied and refused with regard to the above property and all its occupants. "Smart Meters" violate the law and cause endangerment to residents by the following factors:
1. They individually identify electrical devices inside the home and record when they are operated causing invasion of privacy.
2. They monitor household activity and occupancy in violation of rights and domestic security.
3. They transmit wireless signals which may be intercepted by unauthorized and unknown parties. Those signals can be used to monitor behavior and occupancy and they can be used by criminals to aid criminal activity against the occupants.
4. Data about occupant's daily habits and activities are collected, recorded and stored in permanent databases which are accessed by parties not authorized or invited to know and share that private data.
5. Those with access to the smart meter databases can review a permanent history of household activities complete with calendar and time-of-day metrics to gain a highly invasive and detailed view of the lives of the occupants.
6. Those databases may be shared with, or fall into the hands of criminals, blackmailers, law enforcement, private hackers of wireless transmissions, power company employees, and other unidentified parties who may act against the interests of the occupants under metered surveillance.
7. "Smart Meters" are, by definition, surveillance devices which violate Federal and State wiretapping laws by recording and storing databases of private and personal activities and behaviors without the consent or knowledge of those people who are monitored.
8. It is possible for example, with analysis of certain "Smart Meter" data, for unauthorized and distant parties to determine medical conditions, sexual activities, physical locations of persons within the home, vacancy patterns and personal information and habits of the occupants.
9. Your company has not adequately disclosed the particular recording and transmission capabilities of the smart meter, or the extent of the data that will be recorded, stored and shared, or the purposes to which the data will and will not be put.
I forbid, refuse and deny consent of any installation and use of any monitoring, eavesdropping, and surveillance devices on my property, my place of residence and my place of occupancy. That applies to and includes "Smart Meters" and activity monitoring devices of any and all kinds. Any attempt to install any such device directed at me, other inhabitants, guests, my property or residence will constitute trespass, stalking, wiretapping and unlawful surveillance, all prohibited and punishable by law through criminal and civil complaints. All persons, government agencies and private organizations responsible for installing or operating monitoring devices directed at or recording my activities, which I have not specifically authorized in writing, will be fully liable for any violations, intrusions, harm or negative consequences caused or made possible by those devices whether those negative consequences are justified by "law" or not..
This is legal notice. After this delivery the liabilities listed above may not be denied or avoided by parties named and implied in this notice.

" the threat that if a deal is not reached to increase the debt by August 2nd, social security checks may not go out. In reality, the Chief Actuary of Social Security confirmed last week that current Social Security tax receipts are more than enough to cover current outlays. The only reason those checks would not go out would be if the administration decided to spend those designated funds elsewhere. "Please read a short history of credit defaults....
In this event, it is unlikely a default will occur. Historically, governments prioritize debt service above all other expenses. If the expansion of funds via debt becomes impossible, the Treasury will cease paying other expenses first, starting with "nonessential" discretionary expenditures, and then move on to mandatory expenditures and entitlements as a last resort.
In extremis, what will happen is that all the losses will be foisted onto the Federal Reserve. The Fed holds something on the order of $1.6 trillion in debt issued by the Treasury of the United States. By having the Federal Reserve purchase blocks of Treasury debt and defaulting on these non-investor-held securities, the United States can postpone a default against real investors essentially forever.
The sky is NOT falling!
Senior Citizens will still get their pension/social security checks.
This is another government manufactured crisis whereby the White House wants to have permission from Congress to spend more and tax you even more!
If the Republicans in the Congress agree to raising the debt limit then you will know there is absolutely NO difference between either party.
In 2007 and in 2008, when the Senate voted to increase the limit by $850 billion and $800 billion respectively, Obama did not bother to vote. (He did vote for TARP, which increased the debt limit by $700 billion.)
America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. - Sen Barack Obama, 2006
But really - it is imperative for Congress to say NO to more spending. We cannot afford more spending and more debt and more taxation.
Cut. Cap. Balance.
Let's demand fiscal sanity from Washington.

When one lives in a "Nanny State", one must continually ask for permission to do things.
I read an article pointing out how "unfree" we really are.
It got me annoyed and it got me thinking.
Honestly, when we have the government shutting down lemonade stands then we really have a problem. This kind of government intrusive lunacy is happening all over the country.
Can you believe that three little girls in Midway, Georgia decided to set up a lemonade stand to raise a little money so that they could go to a waterpark, and when they did, the police came by and shut them down! Oh yes, because "the law" requires that anyone selling anything to eat or drink in their town needs to obtain a "business license" which would have cost those little girls $50 a day! No kid can make that kind of money selling lemonade or cookies - so effectively that is an activity that is now banned for kids.
Citing "health and safety" concerns, the police chief in Midway was serious when he said:
'We were not aware of how the lemonade was made, who made the lemonade, or what the lemonade was made with"Egads... this is really an example of the nanny state on steroids.
Kids can't sell lemonade anymore! just like the Amish or natural food stores can't sell raw milk!
In America there is no longer the freedom to grow or bake food, or make something to drink, and sell it to our neighbors! and this kind of government control is taking hold in many communities.
The sad reality is that if you want to do almost anything you must get the permission of the government to do it first. And usually you have to pay a fee for that permission.
You can't open a business, drive a car, get married, have a pet or livestock, fix your porch, go fishing, or do a ton of other things without government permission. The rules and regulations set upon us by government entities is relentless.
I say - as a protest and a lesson to our children in civil disobedience - we should choose a Saturday - Like August 20 - and call it Lemonade for Freedom Day - and every child in America should have a lemonade stand!
Every liberty loving adult should stop at these lemonade stands and support Freedom!
Let's DO IT!
It's up to all of us to take this thing viral!

Honestly - What is all the fuss about with Murdoch's crew allegedly hacking telephone conversations?
The US government does this to the American people everyday!
So here is what the Wall Street Journal is reporting:
The News That Shook the World
July 4: A lawyer for murdered teen Milly Dowler's family says he learned from police that her voice-mail messages had been hacked, possibly by a News of the World investigator.
July 6: U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron says he is 'revolted' by allegations that private investigators from the paper eavesdropped on the voice mails of victims of crime.
July 7: News Corp. announces it will close down the News of the World. The July 10 edition of the weekly paper was the last.
July 8: Mr. Cameron announces two inquiries, one on the hacking scandal, another focusing on press regulations. Former News of the World editor and ex-Cameron aide Andy Coulson is arrested in connection with the scandal.
July 10: Mr. Murdoch flies into London to handle the crisis.
July 12: Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown accuses News International of employing criminals to obtain confidential information about his family. News International defends its journalism.
July 13: Under U.K. political pressure, News Corp. withdraws its bid to buy the 60.9% of British Sky Broadcasting that it doesn't already own.
July 14: Rupert Murdoch and son James Murdoch agree to testify at a parliamentary hearing to answer questions about the company's phone-hacking scandal. In the U.S., the FBI said it would open a probe into whether News of the World might have hacked into phones of 9/11 victims.
It is laughable that anyone in government really cares - especially the FBI - or the US Justice department - that 9/11 victims' phones were allegedly hacked into.. especially since the US government is probably also listening on their phone conversations too! Perhaps the US government just doesn't want competition in the phone hacking business.
I guess when Murdoch and his crew are accused of doing it, then it's a crime... but when Big Sis does it "in the name of homeland security" it's just peachy. The Feds not only listen in on phone conversations (without a warrant) - but they read your phone bill - your credit card bill - and your library records (among other things).
Can we take the government to court, and put government officials in jail too, for the same crime Murdoch's people allegedly committed?
I doubt it.
(For the record - I do not condone the alleged actions of either Murdoch's people or the Federal Government with regard to privacy and 4th amendment issues)

That's pretty interesting.
82-year-old John Rolczynski found an error in North Dakota's founding document which technically makes North Dakota not a state in the union... it may technically be a territory - like Puerto Rico.
Here's the story: Back in 1889, North Dakota was carved out of the Dakota Territory and admitted to the Union at the same time as South Dakota. Or so everyone thought.
But the state founders who drafted the constitution left out the key requirement that the governor and other top officials take an oath of office, putting the state constitution in conflict with the federal one. So Rolczynski has been arguing for the last 16 years that the omission made the state illegitimate.
State Senator Tim Mathern recently introduced a bill to fix the mistake - and as a result, voters in North Dakota will have to vote on the new wording to their state constitution this spring.
Imagine if they decide not to accept the wording and in essence remain a territory.
One wonders if the people of North Dakota will not have to pay federal taxes, and if they will get a refund for the taxes they have paid. (wink)
Their Congressmen and Senators will have to leave Washington!
They can be their own country!
Issue their own passports and coin their own money!
Comments on the Yahoo article were amusing, to say the least.
And apparently Mr. Rolczynski also found another error - this time it has to do with the state border not being correct. Now that should be an interesting issue to follow.
How many other people will be closely reading their state constitution now?
Here is Connecticut's.

Hey - I could have used that $17,000.
Bet you could have too!
Is Gold Money?
The Constitution sure says it is.
Article I, section 10:
No state shall enter into any treaty, alliance, or confederation; grant letters of marque and reprisal; coin money; emit bills of credit; make anything but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts; pass any bill of attainder, ex post facto law, or law impairing the obligation of contracts, or grant any title of nobility.Someone needs to explain this to Zimbabwe Ben.
He doesn't think gold is money - and I wonder how much gold Bernanke personally holds.
He thinks the Federal Reserve Notes backed by pixie dust are money.
He thinks the Fed is a "profit center" for the federal government.
We all know that his Federal Reserve is stealing from all of us via inflation.
Meanwhile, back at the Fed - they are readying for QE3.
Like that's going to help the situation.
As for the organization that still calculates inflation "the old fashioned way" - that must be Shadowstats.

Presidential Executive Orders - What are they anyway?
A Presidential Executive Order is not a carte blanche dicatorial edict, and it is NOT a means to enact legislation or replace Congressional powers.
From the Federal Register
Executive orders are official documents, numbered consecutively, through which the President of the United States manages the operations of the Federal Government. So it's an administrative order which manages the people who work for the federal government - it can be as simple as telling everyone who works for the federal government that they can not use a cell phone when they are driving on official business.... or setting the rates of pay for federal employees .... or setting the organization reporting structure within an agency.
The text of Executive orders appears in the daily Federal Register as each Executive order is signed by the President and received by the Office of the Federal Register. The text of Executive orders beginning with Executive Order 7316 of March 13, 1936, also appears in the sequential editions of Title 3 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
NOTE: The total number of Executive orders issued for each administration includes number-and-letter designated orders, such as 9577-A, 9616-A, etc.
Executive orders are not meant to be used to make law!
There is a a Constitutional procedure regarding law making - and that involves your representatives in Congress.
Have presidents misused the power of executive orders?
Barack Obama has put out about 89 Executive Orders since taking office in 2008! (Numbers 13489-13578)
Thisnation.com also has some good explanation about what executive orders are:
Executive Orders (EOs) are legally binding orders given by the President, acting as the head of the Executive Branch, to Federal Administrative Agencies. Executive Orders are generally used to direct federal agencies and officials in their execution of congressionally established laws or policies. However, in many instances they have been used to guide agencies in directions contrary to congressional intent.Of course if congress does not like the administrative dictates they can override them and they can even be challenged in court. There are checks and balances which are to prevent the president from becoming a dictator via Executive Order.
Not all EOs are created equal. Proclamations, for example, are a special type of Executive Order that are generally ceremonial or symbolic, such as when the President declares National Take Your Child To Work Day. Another subset of Executive Orders are those concerned with national security or defense issues. These have generally been known as National Security Directives. Under the Clinton Administration, they have been termed "Presidential Decision Directives."
Executive Orders do not require Congressional approval to take effect but they have the same legal weight as laws passed by Congress. The President's source of authority to issue Executive Orders can be found in the Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution which grants to the President the "executive Power." Section 3 of Article II further directs the President to "take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed." To implement or execute the laws of the land, Presidents give direction and guidance to Executive Branch agencies and departments, often in the form of Executive Orders.
If Congress does not like what the executive branch is doing, it has two main options. First, it may rewrite or amend a previous law, or spell it out in greater detail how the Executive Branch must act. Of course, the President has the right to veto the bill if he disagrees with it, so, in practice, a 2/3 majority if often required to override an Executive Order. Two good resources regarding misuse of executive orders are:
Congress is less likely to challenge EOs that deal with foreign policy, national defense, or the implementation and negotiation of treaties, as these are powers granted largely to the President by the Constitution. As the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, the President is also considered the nation's "Chief Diplomat." In fact, given national security concerns, some defense or security related EOs (often called National Security Directives or Presidential Decision Directives) are not made public.
In addition to congressional recourse, Executive Orders can be challenged in court, usually on the grounds that the Order deviates from "congressional intent" or exceeds the President's constitutional powers. In one such notable instance, President Harry Truman, was rebuked by the Supreme Court for overstepping the bounds of presidential authority. After World War II, Truman seized control of steel mills across the nation in an effort to settle labor disputes. In response to a challenge of this action, the Supreme Court ruled that the seizure was unconstitutional and exceeded presidential powers because neither the Constitution or any statute authorized the President to seize private businesses to settle labor disputes. For the most part, however, the Court has been fairly tolerant of wide range of executive actions.

It might be a good idea for Americans to look through the list of Executive Orders which have come out of the Obama administration - there have been some pretty troubling ones if you ask me! One such EO was the one establishing the "White House Rural Council" especially in light of the very disturbing Agenda 21.

There's been lots of talk lately about the 14th Amendment vis-a-vis the Congress and the intense argument over raising the debt limit.
The 143-year-old clause, written to address still-potent divisions after the bloody Civil War, has been dredged up by legal scholars as well as the US Treasury secretary to suggest how a debt debacle might be avoided.King Obama is pressuring Congress to raise the debt ceiling (like raising the limit on your credit card) at a time when we are already unable to pay back our debts. Printing more money would be disastrous - not paying our debts would be disastrous - and this is why we must cut spending. We cannot kick this can down the road, as there is no more road to kick the can down.
So now, the Treasury (AKA Timmy Geithner) is saying that Congress must take extraordinary measures to make sure the US can pay its bills - and some are even invoking the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution and saying that Congress has an obligation to ensure we are able to honor the obligations of the United States. In other words, screw you Congress, we (Obama and the Treasury) are going to ignore you and do what we want anyway. It's a tortured interpretation of the 14th amendment, to say the least.
So let's look at the 14th Amendment particularly Section 4:
Section 4.Section 4 of the 14th Amendment was added in the aftermath of the Civil War as a means to settle any debts between the federal government and the states that wished to leave the Union - it has nothing to do with the Bush/Obama spending spree, or the limits Congress wishes to put on spending.
The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any state shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.
That being said:
"The validity of the public debt... shall not be questioned."
So what the Obama administration and certain "Constitutional Scholars" that support them, are saying is that the government's obligation to make payments cannot be abrogated by some "arbitrary limit". In other words we cannot have a debt ceiling limit. Therefore King Obama is seeking to ignore an arbitrary debt ceiling limit and just continue to spend.
The purse string tussle is clearly in view - and a Constitutional crisis (yes, another one) is in the making. Just who -- the Congress or the White House -- controls the power of the Federal purse with regard to the public debt?
Obama cannot take the law into his own hands - and if he does then he is truly in dictatorship territory and ought to be impeached. Clearly the 14th Amendment has nothing to do with our current public debt ceiling limit and it certainly does not authorize or otherwise give power to King Obama to totally disregard the Constitutional authority and power that is given expressly to Congress "to borrow Money on the credit of the United States."
Good try though.
(Well, honestly, not even a good try)
Note to Speaker Boehner - Let's see some spine! Don't you dare agree to raise the debt limit! - don't you dare raise taxes! - CUT SPENDING NOW! Start with abolishing the Department of Education - The Department of Energy - The Department of Homeland Security and the TSA. Stop aid to foreign countries and bring our troops home and end these idiotic wars. Stop taking your marching orders from the UN - the EU - the IMF and NATO. Deport illegal aliens that are taking advantage of social programs and causing healthcare and education to skyrocket. Bring manufacturing back to the states and revive a true free market economy. Restore the Republic - honor your oath of office and adhere to the Constitution!
CUT SPENDING NOW!
CUT - CAP - BALANCE
1. Cut - Substantial cuts in spending that will reduce the deficit next year and thereafter.
2. Cap - Enforceable spending caps that will put federal spending on a path to a balanced budget.
3. Balance - Congressional passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution -- but only if it includes both a spending limitation and a super-majority for raising taxes, in addition to balancing revenues and expenses.
It's clear that President Obama has made the recovery worse. And there are, in fact, many economic indicators that are demonstrably worse since Obama took office. Here are a few...:
There are 2 million fewer private-sector jobs now than when Obama was sworn in, and the unemployment rate is 1.5 percentage points higher.
• There are now more long-term unemployed than at any time since the government started keeping records.
* The U.S. dollar is more than 12% weaker.
• The number of Americans on food stamps has climbed 37%.
• The Misery Index (unemployment plus inflation) is up 62%.
• And the national debt is about 40% higher than it was in January 2009.
In fact, reporters who bother to look will discover that Obama has managed to produce the worst recovery on record.
By this point in the Reagan recovery after the 1981-82 recession, for example, unemployment had been knocked down to 7.4% from a peak of 10.8%, and quarterly GDP growth averaged a screaming 7%. .. READ MORE

Your cell phone camera has become a very important tool to use to document things as they happen. We can no longer rely on the media, or even public servants, to give us the truth about what transpires in certain situations.
Truth is important in a free society.
With regard to filming police in their line of duty, I don't think we should obstruct the police from doing their job - but I do think that anyone should be able to film anything in a public space. With regard to filming police - if they have done nothing wrong then they have nothing to hide.
That being said there are many police (and other public servant) abuses that have gone on too long and it's about time that the citizenry make it so they can no longer hide behind a badge - or a union - or their office title.
One organization trying to expose police brutality and abuse is Cop Block. They report on police abuse of authority.
I am not promoting being "anti-police" - but I sure think that we need to be able to put an end to police corruption and abuse (as well as any other public servant/elected official) and one way to do this is to be able to document the abuses with pictures and video footage.
Too many public servants have violated the public trust, and act as though they are immune or above the law. Like it or not, by holding their office they should be held to a higher standard.
Back in May, I was called to jury duty. I believe that one reason that I was excused from serving on a jury because during "Voir Dire' I was asked by the prosecution side if I thought that police lie. I replied "Yes", because of a personal experience. Apparently police were going to be called to testify against the defendant in the trial. In any case, I honestly do not believe all police are bad, but one must admit that we certainly have seen our share of bad ones.
One of my pet peeves is when I see a police car put on their lights and sirens in order to get through an intersection ahead of everyone else, and once through, they turn off the lights and sirens and go on their way. This is a clear abuse of their position.
Of course, we are talking about more serious abuses. Those should certainly be documented and our public servants should be held accountable.
Here is an interesting map (found on Target Map)

Yup - that's right...
20 cent gasoline
Just pay this guy in Ashland, Oregon in pre-’64 dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars.
90% junk silver coins are probably somewhere in your house - you might want to hang onto them... and see what they are worth or you could buy gas in Oregon.

Peter Schiff just put out a very timely and interesting piece regarding the coming of exchange of goods and services using barter with or without precious metals.
It is interesting because I know people who already use silver, and even I have in my wallet and "End The Fed" dime card which tells you what the silver content in various pre-1965 US coins are worth based on $40 per ounce silver. (You can also see the melt values here)
Peter Schiff's analysis is spot on. He recounts the organized efforts of people to revive a system of sound money... from Bernard Von Nothaus' Liberty Dollar to Shire Silver and digital fractional gold accounts. In my opinion (and in Schiff's), holding physical metals is best.
The fact that businesses are beginning to accept metals (gold and silver) for payment is a sign that the fiat currency is beginning to fail. Many people would rather have gold or silver than Federal Reserve Notes that are backed by nothing more than Pixie Dust and are printed at the whim of Ben Bernanke and company.
Barter communities have sprung up nationwide.
Here is mostly what Schiff has to say (and I have added links as references to the sites mentioned):
Imagine a day when you go to buy a quart of milk, ask the price, and the cashier says, "that'll be a tenth ounce silver." As the US dollar's decline accelerates, several efforts around the country are trying to make this vision a reality.
Historically, paying for items in silver or gold was actually quite common. We happen to live in an unusual time and place where generations have grown up trading exclusively in paper. While my parents still used dimes made of silver, we have now gone several decades with no precious metals in any of our official coinage. But this system of money by government fiat is unsustainable.
While the practice of bartering precious metals directly for goods and services has continued on a small-scale over the last few decades, the 2000s saw the beginning of organized efforts to revive gold and silver as money.
THE LIBERTY DOLLAR
One such effort was spearheaded by an eccentric mintmaster from Hawaii named Bernard Von Nothaus. He called his project the Liberty Dollar, and it centered on privately minted gold and silver rounds as well as deposit certificates for precious metals held in his firm's vaults.
... public participation grew steadily from 1998 until 2007, when federal agents raided the Liberty Dollar's offices on trumped-up charges of counterfeiting.
Really, they were charging him with competing with the US dollar's monopoly privileges by offering a better product. It's important to note that the case against Nothaus was built around his coins looking similar to official US coinage (though no one actually mistook Liberty Dollars for US currency), and not around encouraging people to use precious metals as circulating money.
Next came a crop of internet-based currencies backed by gold and silver. Most prominent among them are eGold and GoldMoney. Both were designed to allow customers to open online accounts that were valued in, and backed by, gold and silver bullion.
eGold was perhaps the better known of the two until it, too, was shut down by the US government on charges of money laundering. eGold was positioned more as an online payment system than a means of holding bullion. Due to the anonymous nature of the transactions - it was akin to spending cash - the authorities alleged that it was being used by criminal enterprises to funnel illegal funds. But mostly it was being used by regular people to begin saving and trading in money that holds its value. eGold had a transparent system of annual audits and live transaction screening by any user to keep the system honest. It, too, was growing robustly, and was putting up strong competition against PayPal until the authorities intervened.
GoldMoney, founded by my friend James Turk, has remained in operation by keeping its principal operations overseas and by cooperating fully with onerous US financial regulations. It offers similar services to eGold, but with an emphasis on long-term storage. GoldMoney improves upon traditional storage by locating offshore, offering real-time online account access, and providing extra liquidity. These services do come at a cost, however. Still, over the course of the last decade, GoldMoney has swelled to over $2 billion in assets. Clearly, many people want to trade gold and silver over US dollars.
Digital gold is a niche service, but I think the public's rapid embrace of these projects - none older than ten years - shows that investors are viewing gold and silver as more than mere commodities, but once again seeing them as money. This could signal a paradigm shift back to tradition, which is good news for any precious metals holder.
STRAIGHT UP BARTER
While digital currencies are neat, in practical terms, nothing beats the resilience of traditional barter of bullion for goods and services. If you actually own the physical gold and silver that you intend to save or trade, then you can be sure it will be there until you're ready to sell. You don't have to trust anyone except yourself.
In that vein, several efforts have popped up around the country to simply get people trading gold and silver rather than dollars. Since the transactions involved are usually small, such as buying lunch at a local diner, silver is typically the metal of choice.
There are several hotspots for this sort of activity.
Philadelphia has one group, DelValley Silver, that has fostered a local barter market there by encouraging merchants to accept silver coins in addition to dollars. DelValley is also a silver dealer, but they sell privately minted rounds, which can be harder to liquidate than well-known coins like the American Gold Eagle and Canadian Maple Leaf.
Meanwhile, in New Hampshire, many merchants associated with the Free State Project have begun accepting gold and silver at their businesses. Innovation abounds here and the practice of encasing small amounts of silver in laminated cards seems to be the most successful.
Shire Silver encloses silver and gold wire in their cards and measures them in terms of grams. It's much easier to trade a flat, plastic card containing a gram of silver than to carry around a 1 oz coin. However, even their website will admit that the premium on such a small amount of silver makes it less than ideal for investment purposes. Of course, when you're ready to barter, they'll be happy to take your 1 oz rounds in return for some Shire Silver. And that Shire Silver is being accepted by more and more merchants across New Hampshire and beyond.
Another variation, from a group based in Phoenix, Arizona, encloses a pre-1965 US dime inside the laminated card. Before '65, every dime contained 90% silver, making them worth about $2.50 each in today's debased dollars. That's why you won't find any pre-'65 dimes in your change from the grocery store. However, one fellow had the clever idea of putting them in these cards so they could trade at their silver value without getting mixed in with the worthless dimes we carry around today. The same group even created a free iPhone app that translates US dollar prices into various amounts of silver.
While I'll still be selling regular old bullion coins and bars at Euro Pacific Precious Metals, because these are the best way to invest in physical precious metals, I am energized by these efforts. The great thing about holding and bartering physical precious metals is that there is no central company running the operations, like with the digital gold currencies, and therefore there's no single person the government can go after.
THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL
Besides these grassroots efforts at building barter communities, I'm seeing a cultural shift in favor of precious metals. Utah recently passed a law establishing gold and silver as legal tender and abolishing state capital gains taxes on their appreciation. I was interviewed for a new animated film called Silver Circle that features a rebel group in the near future which mints silver coins in defiance of an even more aggressive Federal Reserve. More and more people are starting to watch the gold price as often as they watch the Dow.
Overall, this bodes well for our investments and for our country. If gold and silver are successfully re-monetized, our children may know a rate of economic growth not seen since our great-grandparents were in their prime. And prices may never return to today's levels again.
Schiff did not mention that the Lakota nation has its own bank and also issues Lakota money - gold and silver coins.
Rep. Ron Paul has been espousing sound money principles for years. Many people are finally paying attention.
New economies are beginning to emerge as the US dollar becomes worth less.
People are not waiting for Washington to insist on sound money - and many are already trading their Federal Reserve Notes for something more tangible.
Additionally, the notion of Buy Local is really taking hold. People are becoming more interested in supporting local businesses and local agriculture - and that is a good thing.

Timmy Geithner wants out in the fall.
Geithner would like to leave mainly for personal reasons. His family is moving to New York in the fall, and his son is finishing his final year of high school.Isn't it interesting that in less than one year five economic advisors in the Obama administration have resigned.
If the US economy were really in some sort of economic recovery (as the White House keeps trying to convince us), why would all of these stellar economists in the Obama administration be jumping ship?? You'd think they would want to bask in the credit of a stimulated recovering economy!
Well - guess again -
A report on the economic impact of the “stimulus,” released on Friday, July 1, provided evidence that President Obama’s economic “stimulus” did very little, if anything, to stimulate the economy, and a whole lot to stimulate the debt.
The council reports that, using “mainstream estimates of economic multipliers for the effects of fiscal stimulus” (which it describes as a “natural way to estimate the effects of” the legislation), the “stimulus” has added or saved just under 2.4 million jobs — whether private or public — at a cost (to date) of $666 billion. That’s a cost to taxpayers of $278,000 per job.Americans seem to sense that this whole stimulus plan was bogus to begin with, and that these Keynesian advocates realize that this whole thing is going up in smoke. We are now worse off than when we started on the road to financing TARP and bailing out failed business models, etc. etc. Cash for Clunkers, and all of those other idiot schemes were useless and have put our children's future in jeopardy. They will have an enormous bill to pay... with money that will essentially be worth less. QE 1 - QE2, and the coming of QE3 will have devastating inflationary results. At some point we will be unable to kick the can down the road.
...and of course they want to raise the debt ceiling instead of reining in spending.
They would rather print even more money then put us on a true balanced budget.
When you cannot pay your credit card bills, do you ask for a higher credit limit and charge more to it?
If you are fiscally irresponsible - I suppose the answer is yes.
This is exactly what the Congress is doing.
So now, Timmy Geithner wants out.
He can join the list of other "economic advisor" rats that have jumped ship (along with the non economic advisors that have exited stage Left)

It is apparent that no one wants to be around on Obama's economic team during the largest financial collapse in world history - which some claim is scheduled to begin this fall when the debt comes due and interestingly enough, the time frame when Geithner wants to get out of Dodge. The 500 billion ticking time bomb... is well... ticking.
If they raise the debt ceiling (which they will) it will only prolong the pain and make things much much worse.
The Ponzi scheme cannot last forever.
And when it does end, it will not be pretty.

No Red, White and Blue for me this year.
I am in mourning.
It's not that I am not patriotic.
Quite the opposite.
I will be wearing black this 4th of July - to mourn the loss of our freedoms and the trampling of our Constitution by Washington. If you think everything is hunky dory in America, wear Red White and Blue on Independence Day and celebrate the illusion of the freedoms Americans pretend to enjoy. If you want to do something about getting those freedoms back, wear black instead and tell people why.
I will tell you why:
-We've lost our 4th amendment rights.
-SWAT Teams can kick down your door and shoot you dead.
-Our president takes orders from NATO and the UN; Not Congress.
-There is no such thing as Posse Comitatus anymore, and our military is now acting as policing forces in our own country.
-TSA/Our government is groping little old ladies and children at airports, and desensitizing the population to this kind of humiliating treatment in the the name of "security".
-Our government freely listens in on our telephone conversations and reads our mail, checking our credit card statements and phone bills.
-We are being mandated to buy healthcare being told what kind of lightbulbs to use.
-One seventh of our nation is on foodstamps and our leader and his family fly all over the world to vacation and have a good time as we serfs foot the bill.
-Our President acts like a dictator with his executive orders and Congressional "end arounds".
-Every single day there is another Constitutional abuse coming out of Washington, with no care or rebuke. The oath of office means nothing to too many.
How can I possibly wear Red, White and Blue when our Republic is dying? and when our Congress does not have the backbone to end this madness?
It is time to redouble our efforts to take back our beloved Republic.
... and by the way, if you live in CT you will subjected to 77 tax increases as of today!
